By applying a transverse magnetic field B( perpendicular) of sufficient strength to the uniaxial molecular magnets Fe8 and Mn12, the tunneling splitting Delta(t) of their S = +/-10 magnetic ground states can be made large compared to perturbations such as hyperfine and dipolar interactions. We present evidence for such a Delta(t) from magnetic specific heat data below 1 K that is consistent with coherent quantum mechanical tunneling in a "mesoscopic" system under such conditions.  相似文献

Potentiometric sensors are studied as viable candidates for the construction of high throughput DNA arrays. For preliminary investigations, such sensors were used in an HPLC setup in the present work. This avoided errors due to ionic contaminants or additives in the commercial samples. The oligonucleotides dT(10), dT(20) and dT(30) were used as test substances. The potentiometric sensors were of the coated wire type, containing PVC, DOP, MTDDACl and a synthetic podand urea receptor. The HPLC system consisted of a reversed phase column eluted with a phosphate buffer, triethylammoniumacetate (TEAA), and an acetonitrile gradient. Molar responses and sensitivities increased with increasing chain length of oligonucleotides, yielding detection limits as low as 10(-6)M (dT(30), injected concentration). The slopes of the calibration graphs were at least 23 mV/decade (dT(10)), which was much higher than expected. The results are discussed in view of the potential use of this sensor type in high throughput microarrays.  相似文献

Using FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, the formation of halogen bonded complexes of the trifluorohalomethanes CF(3)Cl, CF(3)Br and CF(3)I with ethene and propene dissolved in liquid argon has been investigated. For CF(3)Br and CF(3)I, evidence was found for the formation of C-X···π halogen bonded 1:1 complexes. At a higher ratio of CF(3)I/propene, weak absorptions due to a 2:1 complex were also observed. Using spectra recorded at different temperatures, the complexation enthalpies for the complexes were determined to be -5.3(2) kJ mol(-1) for CF(3)Br·ethene, -7.5(2) kJ mol(-1) for CF(3)I·ethene, -5.6(1) kJ mol(-1) for CF(3)Br·propene, -8.8(1) kJ mol(-1) for CF(3)I·propene and -16.5(6) kJ mol(-1) for (CF(3)I·)(2)propene. The complexation enthalpies of the hydrogen bonded counterparts, with CF(3)H as the Lewis acid, were determined to be -4.6(4) kJ mol(-1) for CF(3)H·ethene and -5.1(2) kJ mol(-1) for CF(3)H·propene. For both hydrogen bonded complexes, a blue shift, by +4.8 and +4.0 cm(-1), respectively, was observed for the C-H stretching mode. The results from the cryospectroscopic study are compared with ab initio calculations at the MP2/aug-cc-pVDZ(-PP) level.  相似文献

Fourier transform microwave spectrum of cyclopentylamine, c–C5H9NH2 has been recorded, and seven transitions have been assigned for the most abundant conformer, and the rotational constants have been determined: A = 4909.46(5), B = 3599.01(4), and C = 2932.94(4). From the determined microwave rotational constants and ab initio MP2(full)/6‐311 + G(d,p) predicted structural values, adjusted r0 parameters are reported with distances (Å): rCα–Cβ = 1.529(3), rCβ–Cγ = 1.544(3), rCγ–Cγ = 1.550(3), rCα–N = 1.470(3), and angles (°) ∠CCN = 108.7(5), ∠CβCαCβ = 101.4(5), and τCβCαCβCγ = 42.0(5). The infrared spectra (4000–220 cm−1) of the gas have been recorded. Additionally, the variable temperature (−60 to −100 °C) Raman spectra of the sample dissolved in liquefied xenon was recorded from (3800–50 cm−1). The four possible conformers have been identified, and their relative stabilities obtained with enthalpy difference relative to t‐Ax of 211 ± 21 cm−1 for t‐Eq ≥ 227 ± 22 cm−1 for g‐Eq ≥ 255 ± 25 cm−1 for g‐Ax. The percentage of the four conformers is estimated to be 53% for the t‐Ax, 11 ± 1% for t‐Eq, 20 ± 2% for g‐Ax and 16 ± 2% for g‐Eq at ambient temperature. The conformational stabilities have been predicted from ab initio calculations by utilizing several different basis sets up to aug‐cc‐pVTZ from both MP2(full) and density functional theory calculations by the B3LYP method. Vibrational assignments have been provided for the observed bands for all four conformers, which are predicted by MP2(full)/6‐31G(d) ab initio calculations to predict harmonic force constants, wavenumbers, infrared intensities, Raman activities, and depolarization ratios for all of the conformers. Insight into the key factors driving the competition of halogen and hydrogen bonds is obtained by studying the affinity of the Lewis bases trimethylamine (TMA), dimethyl ether (DME), and methyl fluoride (MF) towards difluoroiodomethane (CHF2I). Analysis of the infrared and Raman spectra of solutions in liquid krypton containing mixtures of TMA and CHF2I and of DME and CHF2I reveals that for these Lewis bases hydrogen and halogen‐bonded complexes appear simultaneously. In contrast, only a hydrogen‐bonded complex is formed for the mixtures of CHF2I and MF. The complexation enthalpies for the C?H ??? Y hydrogen‐bonded complexes with TMA, DME, and MF are determined to be ?14.7(2), ?10.5(5) and ?5.1(6) kJ mol?1, respectively. The values for the C?I ??? Y halogen‐bonded isomers are ?19.0(3) kJ mol?1 for TMA and ?9.9(8) kJ mol?1 for DME. Generalization of the observed trends suggests that, at least for the bases studied here, softer Lewis bases such as TMA favor halogen bonding, whereas harder bases such as MF show a substantial preference for hydrogen bonding.  相似文献

Observation of a potentiometric sensor's response behaviour after injection in flow injection analysis at different concentrations allowed studying “on” and “off” kinetics of the analyte's adsorption/diffusion behaviour. The alkaloid metergoline was mostly used as an example. kon and koff rate constant values were measured, and the association constant Kass, and ΔG values of the analyte–surface interaction were calculated with an adsorption-based model which proved to be fully applicable. kon increased by decreasing the sensor dimensions, while koff was unaffected by miniaturization. Increasing acetonitrile concentrations in the running buffer increased koff, while kon was unaffected. The experimentally determined ΔG values of the analyte–surface interaction showed a linear relation to the response of the sensor, in mV. This knowledge was applied to optimize the potentiometric detection of plant alkaloids in (U)HPLC. Sub-micromolar detection limits were obtained with the potentiometric detector/(U)HPLC combination. This is the first time that the response rates and the response itself can be modelled accurately for coated wire potentiometric sensors, and it is the first application of a potentiometric detector in UPLC.  相似文献
