The Rayleigh Stokes problem for rectangular pipe in Maxwell and second grade fluid

The Stokes and Rayleigh Stokes problems for a flat plate in a viscoelastic fluid has recently been generalized to an edge and an exact analytical solution is obtained. In this paper, the edge problem has further been extended to the case of a rectangular pipe and exact solutions are obtained for Maxwell and second grade fluids. Also, the flow due to an oscillating edge problem is extended to generalized Maxwell fluid.     

Simulation of heat and mass transfer on peristaltic flow of hyperbolic tangent fluid in an asymmetric channel

In the present analysis, the influence of heat and mass transfer on the peristaltic flow of a hyperbolic tangent fluid in an asymmetric channel has been discussed. The highly nonlinear equations are simplified under lubrication approach. The perturbation and numerical solutions of the problem are not only discussed but the validity of the results is also being checked. The graphical results of the problem under discussion are also being brought under consideration to see the behavior of various physical parameters. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Analysis of electro-active regions and conductivity of BaMnO3 ceramic by impedance spectroscopy

Polycrystalline BaMnO₃ ceramic powders were prepared using the conventional mixed oxide route accompanied with several milling processes. Single phase formation was verified by recording the X-ray diffraction pattern of the powder as well as sintered pellet at room temperature. Scanning electron micrograph and energy dispersive X-ray spectrum of cross-sectional view have shown that sintered pellet is highly porous and contains only Ba, Mn and O elements, respectively. Analysis of impedance spectroscopy was carried out via the complex impedance and complex modulus formalisms. These results have shown that BaMnO₃ behave as semiconducting material. Furthermore, as a consequence of electrically inhomogeneous nature of the sample, it was observed that the electroactive regions (such as grain, grain boundary and sample-electrode interface) are overlapped in the applied frequency domain with dominant grain boundary effect. An equivalent circuit model (R _g C _g)(R _gb Q _gb)(R _e Q _e) was employed to fit the temperature dependent impedance spectroscopy data. Study of grain and grain boundary conductivities suggest that grains are more conductive than grain boundaries and conduction mechanism followed correlated barrier hopping (CBH) model.     

Novel Surfactant for the Reduction of CO2/Brine Interfacial Tension

The synthesis of novel CO₂ philic surfactant using maleic anhydride and dipropylene tertiary butyl alcohol is reported. The synthesis involved the esterification of maleic anhydride to produce bis(2-(2-(tert-butoxy)propoxy)propyl) maleate and subsequent sulfonation of the esterified product. Para toluene sulfonic acid was employed as catalyst for the esterification reaction. The esterification reaction was optimized for the maximum yield of 98% of bis(2-(2-(tert-butoxy)propoxy)propyl) maleate. The esterification reaction kinetics employing heterogeneous catalyst were also studied. Although this is a bimolecular reaction, a first order reaction kinetics with respect to acid has been observed. The activation energy was found to be 58.71 kJ/mol. The diester was followed by the sulfonation process and a yield of 85% of surfactant was achieved. The synthesized surfactant successfully lowered down the IFT between CO_2/brine to 1.93 mN/m. This surfactant has a great potential to be used for CO₂-EOR applications.
