We use 106 pb (-1) of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab to search for narrow-width, vector particles decaying to a top and an antitop quark. Model independent upper limits on the cross section for narrow, vector resonances decaying to t&tmacr; are presented. At the 95% confidence level, we exclude the existence of a leptophobic Z' boson in a model of top-color-assisted technicolor with mass M(Z')<480 GeV/c(2) for natural width gamma = 0.012M(Z'), and M(Z')<780 GeV/c(2) for gamma = 0.04M(Z').  相似文献

We report the results of a search for second and third generation leptoquarks using 88 pb(-1) of data recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Color triplet technipions, which play the role of scalar leptoquarks, are investigated due to their potential production in decays of strongly coupled color octet technirhos. Events with a signature of two heavy flavor jets and missing energy may indicate the decay of a second (third) generation leptoquark to a charm (bottom) quark and a neutrino. As the data are found to be consistent with standard model expectations, mass limits are determined.  相似文献

A simple low temperature adhesive 'stamp-and-stick' bonding procedure for lab-on-a-chip glass devices has been tested for capillary electrophoresis applications. This technique involves use of a mask aligner to transfer a UV-curable adhesive selectively onto the top CE substrate which is then aligned with and bonded to the bottom CE wafer. The entire bonding process can be carried out at room temperature in less than 30 minutes, involved only user-friendly laboratory operations, and provided a near 100% success rate. CE microchips made in this manner exhibited similar electroosmotic flow and separation characteristics as ones made via conventional high temperature thermal bonding. Equally important, the devices provided stable long-term performance over weeks of use, encompassing hundreds of individual CE runs without structural failure or any apparent change in operating characteristics. Finally, these devices exhibited excellent chip-to-chip reproducibility. Successful adaptation of the stamp-and-stick approach did require the development and testing of new but easily implemented structural features which were incorporated into the chip design and whose nature is described in detail.  相似文献

We provide techniques for turning estimates on the infinitesimal behavior of solutions to nonlinear equations (statements concerning tangent cones and their consequences) into more effective control. In the present paper, we focus on proving regularity theorems for minimizing harmonic maps and minimal currents. There are several aspects to our improvements of known estimates. First, we replace known estimates on the Hausdorff dimension of singular sets by estimates on the volumes of their r‐tubular neighborhoods. Second, we give improved regularity control with respect to the number of derivatives bounded and/or on the norm in which the derivatives are bounded. As an example of the former, our results for minimizing harmonic maps $f: M^n \rightarrow N^m $ between Riemannian manifolds include a priori bounds in $ W^{1,p} \cap W^{2,{p}/{2}} $ for all p < 3. These are the first such bounds involving second derivatives in general dimensions. Finally, the quantity we control actually provides much stronger information than that which follows from a bound on the Lp norm of derivatives. Namely, we obtain Lp bounds for the reciprocal of the regularity scale $r_f(x):= \max\{r: \sup_{B_r(x)}r|\nabla f|+r^2|\nabla^2 f|\leq 1\}$ . Applications to minimal hypersufaces include a priori Lp bounds for the second fundamental form A for all p < 7. Previously known bounds were for $ p < 4+ \sqrt{{8}/{n}} $ in the smooth immersed stable case. Again, the full theorem is much stronger and yields Lp bounds for the reciprocal of the corresponding regularity scale $r_{|A|}(x):= \max\{r: \sup_{B_r(x)}r|A|\leq 1\}$ . In outline, our discussion follows that of an earlier paper in which we proved analogous estimates in the context of noncollapsed Riemannian manifolds with a lower bound on Ricci curvature. These were applied to Einstein manifolds. A key role in each of these arguments is played by the relevant quantitative differentiation theorem. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Let ${\mathcal{M}}$ be a Brakke flow of n-dimensional surfaces in ${\mathbb{R}^N}$ . The singular set ${\mathcal{S} \subset \mathcal{M}}$ has a stratification ${\mathcal{S}^0 \subset \mathcal{S}^1 \subset \cdots \mathcal{S}}$ , where ${X \in \mathcal{S}^j}$ if no tangent flow at X has more than j symmetries. Here, we define quantitative singular strata ${\mathcal{S}^j_{\eta, r}}$ satisfying ${\cup_{\eta>0} \cap_{0<r} \mathcal{S}^j_{\eta, r} = \mathcal{S}^j}$ . Sharpening the known parabolic Hausdorff dimension bound ${{\rm dim} \mathcal{S}^j \leq j}$ , we prove the effective Minkowski estimates that the volume of r-tubular neighborhoods of ${\mathcal{S}^j_{\eta, r}}$ satisfies ${{\rm Vol} (T_r(\mathcal{S}^j_{\eta, r}) \cap B_1) \leq Cr^{N + 2 - j-\varepsilon}}$ . Our primary application of this is to higher regularity of Brakke flows starting at k-convex smooth compact embedded hypersurfaces. To this end, we prove that for the flow of k-convex hypersurfaces, any backwards selfsimilar limit flow with at least k symmetries is in fact a static multiplicity one plane. Then, denoting by ${\mathcal{B}_r \subset \mathcal{M}}$ the set of points with regularity scale less than r, we prove that ${{\rm Vol}(T_r(\mathcal{B}_r)) \leq C r^{n+4-k-\varepsilon}}$ . This gives L p -estimates for the second fundamental form for any p < n + 1 ? k. In fact, the estimates are much stronger and give L p -estimates for the reciprocal of the regularity scale. These estimates are sharp. The key technique that we develop and apply is a parabolic version of the quantitative stratification method introduced in Cheeger and Naber (Invent. Math., (2)191 2013), 321–339) and Cheeger and Naber (Comm. Pure. Appl. Math, arXiv:1107.3097v1, 2013).  相似文献

Investigations on the Synthesis of Diphenylmethyl Derivatives of Cobalt. Nickel, and Zinc Alkali metal compounds of diphenylmethyl were reacted with salts of cobalt, nickel, and zinc. We present a method for reading out the spin state of electrons in a quantum dot that is robust against charge noise and can be used even when the electron temperature exceeds the energy splitting between the states. The spin states are first correlated to different charge states using a spin dependence of the tunnel rates. A subsequent fast measurement of the charge on the dot then reveals the original spin state. We experimentally demonstrate the method by performing readout of the two-electron spin states, achieving a single-shot visibility of more than 80%. We find very long triplet-to-singlet relaxation times (up to several milliseconds), with a strong dependence on the in-plane magnetic field.  相似文献
