Nitric oxide-releasing ruthenium nanoparticles

Nitric oxide-releasing ruthenium nanoparticles were synthesized by the reaction of alkanethiolate-protected ruthenium nanoparticles with tert-butyl nitrite ((t)BuONO), and their water-soluble derivatives are able to deliver NO to proteins such as reduced myoglobin upon light irradiation in aqueous media.     

Photoreversible cellular imaging using photochrome-conjugated fullerene silica nanoparticles

Photochromic compound-conjugated fluorescent fullerene-silica nanoparticles prepared by the reverse-microemulsion method was utilized for photoswitchable cellular imaging by repeatable irradiation of ultraviolet and visible light.     

Native and fluorescent dye-dependent single-DNA molecule microchip dynamics as measured by differential interference contrast microscopy

In a free solution of 10.0 mM Gly-Gly (pH 8.2), the flow directions of native-DNA and DNA molecules intercalated with the fluorescent dye YOYO-1 were reversed in the microchip channel. These results clearly showed that in a confined space and under specific environmental conditions, the fluorescent dye modified the original properties and behavior of the native-DNA molecule.

An intimate interplay of O-H···O/C-H···F hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking interactions allows a phenyleneethynylene-based dendritic molecule to fold and self-assemble into two distinctively different molecular crystals as pseudopolymorphs.     

Enzyme-magnetic nanoparticle conjugates as a rigid biocatalyst for the elimination of toxic aromatic hydrocarbons

An enzyme-magnetic nanoparticle conjugate is prepared via conjugation of Ni(2+) ions onto the surface of magnetic nanoparticles to interact with a six histidine-tagged enzyme. The catalytic properties and enzyme rigidification of the conjugates are more stable at high concentrations of aromatic hydrocarbons.     

Stable aluminium fluoride chelates with triazacyclononane derivatives proved by X-ray crystallography and 18F-labeling study

A single crystal structure of an aluminium-fluoride complex of a model compound (NODA-benzyl) was studied to understand the co-ordination chemistry. Series of ligands with an extra carboxylic acid linker for biomolecule conjugation were studied for improved (18)F-labeling applications.     

Endosome-escapable magnetic poly(amino acid) nanoparticles for cancer diagnosis and therapy

Endosome-escapable poly(amino acid) nanoparticles composed of iron oxide nanocrystals and anticancer drugs were prepared and demonstrated high T(2) relaxivity coefficients and higher efficacy attributed to the endosomolytic ability of the conjugated histidine moiety.     

A new recognition concept using dye sensitized solar cell configuration

A bifunctional compound 1 was designed and synthesized, in which the donor-π-conjugated-acceptor-cyanoacrylic acid configuration is suited for DSSC, while the tetraoxa-azacrown (donor) part also acts as the recognition unit for e.g. Ca(2+) and the output of DSSC is utilized as signal transduction, demonstrating a new recognition concept using DSSC.     

A versatile palladium catalyst system for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of alkenyl tosylates and mesylates

A general and effective palladium system for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of alkenyl electrophiles under mild reaction conditions is reported. With the Pd(OAc)(2)/CM-phos system, a variety of alkenyl tosylates are coupled well with ArB(OH)(2). Moreover, the first successful examples of using alkenyl mesylates in alkenylation are also described.     

Ratiometric detection of mercury ions in water: accelerated response kinetics of azo chromophores having ethynyl ligand tethers

The metal-induced intramolecular cyclization reaction of an azo dye was exploited for the colorimetric detection of mercury ions in water. The molecular probe 3 responds selectively to nM-level Hg(II) ions in neutral aqueous solutions.
