Chromatographic study of the synthesis of halogenated unsaturated polyesters

The molecular-weight distribution and functionality of polycondensation products of 1,4,5,6,7,7-hexa chloro(hexabromo)bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride, propylene glycol, and maleic anhydride were studied by size-exclusion chromatography. Conditions were examined for preparing oligoesters with more uniform composition and regular alternation of ester fragments and unsaturated units     

A study of radiation-chemical conversion of synthetic oil derived from oil-bitumen rock

The results of research in the radiation processing of synthetic oil derived from oil-bitumen rock of the Balakhany deposit in Azerbaijan are presented. The study has been conducted on a ⁶⁰Co gamma-source at a dose rate of P = 0.5 Gy/s and various absorbed doses of D = 43–216 kGy. Samples of synthetic oil from natural bitumen rocks have been analyzed by chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and IR spectroscopy, and their radiation resistance has been evaluated. The results of the study allow for both assessment of the feasibility of manufacturing petrochemicals for various applications by radiation processing and use of these materials for isolating radioactive sources to preclude their impact on the environment.

Is the Collecting Surface of a Flat One-Sided Probe Constant when Measuring the Ion Distribution Function?

The correctness of the known plane single-ended probe method for measuring the anisotropic ion distribution functions in a gas-discharge plasma has been considered. Analysis has been performed for positive probe potentials relative to the plasma with magnitudes on the order of the mean ion energy, which as a rule is much lower than the mean electron energy. We have analyzed the dependence of the collection surface area of a plane probe on its potential in this range. The structure of the near-probe layer has been determined for an isotropic electron distribution function of the Maxwellian or Druvestein type and an anisotropic ion distribution function. These results are used to derive analytic relations for the correction to the second derivative of the probe current with respect to the plane probe potential. It has been shown that, when the ion distribution function is measured in a wide range of conditions in the gas-discharge plasma, when the approximation of a collisionless probe layer is applicable, and the probe does not perturb the plasma, the dependence of the collection surface area of the probe on the potential can be disregarded in this range.     

Free radical addition of carboxylic esters to unsaturated epoxy compounds

Diels-Alder reaction of <Emphasis Type="Italic">para</Emphasis>-substituted allyl and 2-propynyl benzoates with hexabromo- and tetrabromo-5,5-dimethoxy- 1,3-cyclopentadienes

para-Substituted 2-propynyl benzoates are more reactive than the corresponding allyl esters in the Diels-Alder reactions with hexabromo- and tetrabromo-5,5-dimethoxy-1,3-cyclopentadienes. The cycloaddition is favored by the presence of both electron-donor and electron-acceptor substituents in the aromatic ring, in keeping with the neutral reaction scheme. Neutral weak currents in radiative e−e+ pair annihilation into a pair of arbitrary particles

The contribution of neutral weak currents (NWC) to the cross section for radiative annihilation of longitudinally polarized e^–e⁺ pairs into a pair of arbitrary particles is investigated. The possibilities for determining various structure functions, characterizing the process, and P-odd asymmetry and polarization, related to the presence of NWC, are investigated. Free-radical addition of 2-pyrrolidinone to α-olefins

Cold flow and melting of plastics under severe friction conditions

Dry friction of a series of crystalline polymers (polypropylene, nylon, PTFE) against steel over a wide range of sliding velocities (4.4–4.4×10^–4 cm/sec) and loads (P=7.5–360 kg) with almost complete mutual overlap of the friction surfaces is studied. It is shown that friction of polymer materials against steel may be accompanied by melting of the crystalline polymer (at high velocities) or cold flow (at low velocities) in the surface layers associated with an orientation effect and the appearance of anisotropy.Mekhanika Polimerov, Vol. 1, No. 5, pp. 95–100, 1965
