Some applications of cross-section measures in Minkowski spaces

Summary The purpose of this paper is to establish extremal values for inner and outer radii of the unit ball of a Minkowski space for the Holmes--Thompson and Busemann measures. Furthermore, we confirm a conjecture of C. A. Rogers and G. C. Shephard on ellipsoids.     

On the radicals of algebras generated by a contraction

Let T be a contraction on a Banach space, and let A _T (W _T) be the closure in the uniform (respectively, in the weak) operator topology of the set of all polynomials in T. The asymptotic behavior of the radicals of the algebras A _T and W _T is studied.     

Effects of graphite intercalation with cesium in a thermionic converter

The thermionic energy converter (TEC) with inter-electrode low-temperature plasma and cesium vapor dynamic flow in the inter-electrode gap (IEG) demonstrated an increase in efficiency of up to 20%. This was mainly reached due to the decrease in the effective electron work function to an anomalously low value of the order of 1 eV from a perforated nickel collector covered with nanosized graphite flakes under the converter working conditions. SEM X-ray microanalysis of the collector surface layers was performed, and the model of the effects proposed.     

Beam instability of afterglow plasma in inert gases

The paper considers the conditions under which the development of beam instabilities of the after-glow plasma in inert gases is possible. The validity of assumptions has been experimentally confirmed.     

On the Discreteness of the Structural Space of Weakly Completely Continuous Banach Algebras

We consider a class of Banach algebras with irreducible finite-dimensional representations and prove that, for amenable Banach algebras from this class, the weak complete continuity implies the discreteness of their structural space.     

Radiative annihilation of a lepton pair to form hadrons

The electromagnetic annililation of an e^–e⁺ pair to form hadrons, accompanied by the emission of a ray, is studied. A differential cross section is derived to describe the angular and energy distributions of the bremsstrahlung photons. The possibility of determining structure functions is studied. Synthesis and Structure of Some Aryl-substituted Thiiranes

A number of aryl-substituted 1,2-chlorohydrins was prepared by treating 1,2-epoxy-3-chlororopane with arylmagnesium bromide. The reaction of the aryl-substituted 1,2-chlorohydrins with sodium hydroxide solution furnished the corresponding oxiranes, the key compounds in the synthesis of a number of previously unknown thiiranes.
