Theoretical study of14N pure quadrupole resonance in amino acids

The theoretical hybridization model of Vega is adapted to the tetrahedral environment around the nitrogen nucleus in eleven amino acids to estimate the orbital occupation numbers using the experimental values of the quadrupole coupling constant and asymmetry parameter of¹⁴N quadrupole resonance and the results are discussed.

Ramanujan — Fourier series and a theorem of Ingham

Given two arithmetical functions f, g, we derive, under suitable conditions, asymptotic formulas for the convolution sums ∑ _n≤N f (n) _g (n + h) for a fixed number h. To this end, we develop the theory of Ramanujan expansions for arithmetical functions. Our results give new proofs of some old results of Ingham proved by him in 1927 using different techniques.     

Heat transfer in flow past a continuously moving semi-infinite flat plate in transverse magnetic field with heat flux

Thermal boundary layer on a continuously moving semi-infinite flat plate in the presence of transverse magnetic field with heat flux has been examined. Similarity solutions have been derived and the resulting equations are integrated numerically. This investigation has indicated a fall in the temperature of the thermal boundary layer with increase in magnetic field parameter.

Wärmeübertragung in Strömungen an einer gleichmäßig bewegten, halbunendlichen ebenen Platte in einem quergerichteten Magnetfeld mit Wärmefluß

Zusammenfassung Es ist die thermische Grenzschicht auf einer gleichmäßig bewegten, halbunendlichen ebenen Platte in einem quergerichteten Magnetfeld mit Wärmefluß untersucht worden. Ähnlichkeitslösungen sind abgeleitet und die erhaltenen Gleichungen numerisch integriert worden. Diese Untersuchung hat einen Rückgang der Temperatur in der thermischen Grenzschicht mit steigendem Magnetfeldparameter nachgewiesen.

     

Molecular Characterization of N-Terminal Pro-sequence of Keratinase Ker P from Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Identification of Region with Chaperone Activity

In silico analysis of keratinase Ker P from Pseudomonas aeruginosa revealed that its full gene of 1,497 bp constituted of a 72-bp signal sequence along with a long 520 bp pro-sequence and 905 bp core region. Position specific multiple sequence alignment of Ker P protein with other distant proteases revealed high variability within their N-terminal regions while the core protein was considerably conserved. Ker P (F1) and its four N-terminal truncations (F2-F5) lacking 72, 177, 405, 507 bp, respectively, were cloned and constitutively expressed as extracellular protein in pEZZ-18 secretory vector with Escherichia coli HB101 as the expression host. Ker P F1, Ker P F2, Ker P F3 and Ker P F4 products were active whereas no keratinolytic activity was obtained in Ker P F5. Further analysis revealed that only 187 bp pro-sequence region is required for correct folding of the protein into its active conformation and, thus, has chaperone-like activity. Further, comparative biochemical characterization revealed that the full-length keratinase Ker P F1 was catalytically more efficient than the truncated forms. Among the truncated enzymes, keratinase Ker P F4 exhibited better thermostability than Ker P F2 with a t(1/2) of >1 h at 60 °C. It also had a higher V (max) and K (m) on casein as compared with Ker P F2. However, no significant variation was observed with respect to kinetics on synthetic substrates.     

Transcendental values of class group <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis>-functions

Let K be an algebraic number field and f a complex-valued function on the ideal class group of K. Then, f extends in a natural way to the set of all non-zero ideals of the ring of integers of K and we can consider the Dirichlet series \({L(s,f) =\sum_{{\mathfrak a}} f({\mathfrak a}){\bf N}({\mathfrak a})^{-s}}\) which converges for \({{\mathfrak R}(s) >1 }\). After extending this function to \({{\mathfrak R}(s)=1}\), and in the case that f does not contain the trivial character, we study the special value L(1, f) when f is algebraic valued and K is an imaginary quadratic field. Applying Kronecker’s limit formula and Baker’s theory of linear forms in logarithms, we derive a variety of results related to the transcendence of this special value.     

Permeability of R6G across Cx43 hemichannels through a novel combination of patch clamp and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy

We have measured the permeability of rhodamine-6G across Cx43 hemichannels reconstituted on a pipette tip. Cx43 hemichannels were overexpressed in Sf9 cells, and affinity-purified. The hemichannels were reconstituted in a lipid bilayer on a pipette tip by the tip-dip method. R6G in the pipette permeated across the channels into the bath. The permeability of R6G was quantified by measuring R6G concentration in the bath after several hours by surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) with 100 nm silver colloid particles. The ratio of the permeability of dye to salt, as extracted by this combined electrical-SERS technique, is compatible with similar ratios for other dyes across whole gap junction channels. The results for the permeability ratio were further compared to fluorescence measurements. The novel combination of patch and SERS techniques can be extended to quantifying the transport of biologically significant non-fluorescent molecules, such as cAMP and IP3, across 1 nm sized pores, such as the gap junction channel.
