Incoherent scattering functions of 145 keV gamma rays by K-shell electrons in Y,Ag and Au

The values of incoherent scattering functions are determined experimentally for 145 keV gamma rays in elements Au, Ag and Y at scattering angles 40°, 70° and 100°, using a x-ray gamma coincidence technique. The corresponding theoretical values are obtained from the tabulations of Hubbellet al, and computed from the models of Jauch and Rohrlich and Shimizuet al. A comparison between the theoretical and experimental results showed that the non-relativistic approach adopted in the theory of Shimizuet al is inapplicable to the present cases. A gross agreement is noticed between the present experimental results and the other theoretical values.     

Determination of traces of thallium in zinc and cadmium metals and process solutions by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry after extraction with di-isopropyl ether and reductive stripping

The bromo-complex of thallium(III) is extracted into di-isopropyl ether and reductively stripped into sodium sulphite solution, which is then analysed for thallium by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry. Thallium in zinc and cadmium metals and process solutions can be determined by this method.     

Hysteresis models of dynamic mode atomic force microscopes: analysis and identification via harmonic balance

A new class of models based on hysteresis functions is developed to describe the operation of dynamic mode atomic force microscopy. Such models can account for dissipative phenomena affecting the interaction between the probe and the sample. The model analysis, which is developed using frequency domain techniques, provides a insights into experimentally observed behavior. Experimental data corroborates the models developed.     

Raman spectra of CdS nanocrystals in Nafion: longitudinal optical and confined acoustic phonon modes

Quantum confinement effects on the longitudinal optical and acoustic phonons in CdS nanocrystals in the strongly confined regime in the polymer matrix Nafion are studied using Raman spectroscopy. The LO-phonon modes show size-dependent asymmetric broadening though the broadening and asymmetry are less than those predicted by the phonon confinement models. Two types of confined acoustic modes corresponding to n=1, l=0 and n=1, l=2 spheroidal vibrations are observed. Softening of the spheroidal modes is observed in the strongly confined regime.     

Parity of the band head at 3710 keV in 99Rh using clover detector as compton polarimeter

Clover detector has been used as a Compton polarimeter to measure the linear polarization of γ-rays produced in heavy ion fusion reaction. The polarization sensitivity of the clover detector has been measured over γ-ray energies ranging from 386 to 1368 ke V. The E1 multipolarity of the 1117 keV transition in ⁹⁹Rh has been established using this polarimeter. This has resulted in the assignment of negative parity to the band head at 3710 keV in ⁹⁹Rh.
