Protein foam was explored as a foaming agent for enhanced oil recovery application in this study. The influence of salinity and oil presence on bulk stability and foamability of the egg white protein (EWP) foam was investigated. The results were compared with those of the classical surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) foam. The results showed that the EWP foam is more stable than the SDS foam in the presence of oil and different salts. Although, the SDS foam has more foamability than the EWP foam, however, at low to moderate salinities (1–3 wt% NaCl), both foam systems showed improvement in foamability. At a NaCl concentration of 4.0 wt% and above, foamability of the SDS foam started to decrease drastically while the foamability of the EWP foam remained the same. The presence of oil has a destabilizing effect on both foams but the EWP foam was less affected in comparison to the SDS foam. Moreover, increasing the aromatic hydrocarbon compound percentage in the added oil decreased the foamability and stability of the SDS foam more than EWP foams. This study suggests that the protein foam could be used as an alternative foaming agent for enhanced oil recovery application due to its high stability compared to the conventional foams.  相似文献

Harvesting microalgae from medium is a major challenge due to their small size and low concentrations. In an attempt to find a cost-effective and eco-friendly harvesting technique, mung bean (Vigna radiata) protein extract (MBPE) was used for flocculation of Nannochloropsis sp. The effects of parameters such as pH, flocculant dose, algae concentration, and mixing time were used to study the flocculation efficiency (FE) of MBPE. Optimum parameters of MBPE dosage of 20 mL L?1 and a mixing rate of 300 rpm for 6 min achieved a FE of >92% after 2 h of settling time. MBPE-aggregated microlga flocs were characterized by microscopy. Zeta potential values decreased with increasing flocculant dose, and the values obtained were ?6.93 ± 0.60, ?5.36 ± 0.64, and ?4.44 ± 0.22 for doses of 10, 20, and 30 mL L?1, respectively. In conclusion, MBPE flocculants used in this study are safe, nontoxic, and pollution free, so they could be used for an effective, convenient, and rapid harvesting of microalgae in an eco-friendly approach. These methods are sustainable and could be applied in industrial scale for aquaculture nutrition.  相似文献

In this study, 52 samples of ceramic materials were studied for 226Ra, 222Rn, 232Th and 40K natural radionuclides using high-purity germanium detector and relevant radiological hazards parameters were also appraised. Furthermore, the long-term variations of the total effective dose equivalent (TEDE) and effects of wall thickness on TEDE were established and analyzed using RESRAD-BUILD computer code. The observed percentage variations of TEDE are 2% and 8% for 226Ra and 232Th, respectively, while no variation observed for external dose due to 40K. The estimated indoor doses from the studied ceramic materials are all below the recommended maximum limit.

The aim of this study was to investigate the cytotoxic and apoptotic effects of Nephelium ramboutan-ake (pulasan) rind in selected human cancer cell lines. The crude ethanol extract and fractions (ethyl acetate and aqueous) of N. ramboutan-ake inhibited the growth of HT-29, HCT-116, MDA-MB-231, Ca Ski cells according to MTT assays. The N. ramboutan-ake aqueous fraction (NRAF) was found to exert the greatest cytotoxic effect against HT-29 in a dose-dependent manner. Evidence of apoptotic cell death was revealed by features such as chromatin condensation, nuclear fragmentation and apoptotic body formation. The result from a TUNEL assay strongly suggested that NRAF brings about DNA fragmentation in HT-29 cells. Phosphatidylserine (PS) externalization on the outer leaflet of plasma membranes was detected with annexin V-FITC/PI binding, confirming the early stage of apoptosis. The mitochondrial permeability transition is an important step in the induction of cellular apoptosis, and the results clearly suggested that NRAF led to collapse of mitochondrial transmembrane potential in HT-29 cells. This attenuation of mitochondrial membrane potential (Δψm) was accompanied by increased production of ROS and depletion of GSH, an increase of Bax protein expression, and induced-activation of caspase-3/7 and caspase-9. These combined results suggest that NRAF induces mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis.  相似文献

Murramarin A is a rare type of bicoumarin that connects two coumarin moieties by orthoester structure. Previous study proved the efficiency of copper as one of the most luminescent activators. In this work, Li2CO3–K2CO3–H3BO3 (LKB) glasses co-doped with copper oxide (CuO) and magnesium oxide (MgO) have been prepared by chemical quenching technique. Two techniques have been applied to investigate the effect of co-dopants on the physical and optical properties of the new glass network. The X-ray Diffraction (XRD) results showed the amorphous nature of the sample. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, energy band gap, density, ion concentration, molar volume, Polaron radius and inter-nuclear distance have been analyzed in the light of the different oxidation states of co-doped ions in the glass matrix. The exchange in the concentration of magnesium and copper ions illustrated the great effect of magnesium as a co-dopant on the Photoluminescence (PL) emission of LKB doped with copper oxide. Due to the change in the copper concentration, a broad green emission with intensity of around 300 (a.u) has been observed. Enhancement of about three times has been shown with the increment of 0.1 mol% of CuO and MgO as a co-dopant technique. It is well known that magnesium oxide alone does not show strong-luminescence, but during this increment, MgO acted as activator (co-dopant) for Cu ions. This enhancement may contribute to the energy transfer from Mg2+ ions to monovalent Cu+ ion. The current results are discussed and compared with other related studies.  相似文献

Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) was examined from the extract of leaf, seed, and cell suspension of Hevea brasiliensis, a rubber plant. The defense-related isozyme from Hevea cell suspension induced by culture filtrate of Phytophthora palmivora or by agitation stress was isolated through anion exchange and affinity chromatography, respectively. A 104-purification fold, migrated as a single band of 70?kDa on sodium dodecyl sulfate?Cpolyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of PPO, was obtained after further purified by the preparative gel electrophoresis. Based on reaction with catechol and dopamine but not with p-cresol and guaiacol, it is a diphenol-type PPO. The values of V max /K m ratio indicated that catechol was the most specific substrate. The optimal activity of the purified PPO was observed at pH?6.0. The PPO activity was retained at pH?4.0?C10.0 and temperature 10?C60?°C. The inhibitors which completely inhibited the activity were ascorbic acid, dithiothreitol, and ??-mercaptoethanol while sodium azide was a poor inhibitor. The PPO obtained from Hevea cell suspension possesses high specific activity and is stable at wide range of pH and temperature. It is therefore suitable for extreme condition uses and may lead to an alternative source of PPO in various industrial applications.  相似文献

Several studies showed the interesting properties of trivalent lanthanide ions when doped in various types of glasses. Optical and physical properties of lithium magnesium borate glasses doped with Dy3+ then with Sm3+ ions were determined by measuring their absorption and luminescence spectra in the visible region. The absorption spectra of Dy3+ showed eight absorption bands with hypersensitive transition at 1265 nm (6H15/26F11/2-6H9/2) and three PL emission bands at 588 nm (4F9/26H15/2), 660 nm (4F9/26H13/2) and 775 nm (4F9/26H11/2). Regarding the Sm3+, nine absorption bands were observed with hypersensitive transition at 1237 nm (6H5/26F7/2); the PL spectrum showed four prominent peaks at 4G5/26H5/2 (yellow color), 4G5/26H7/2 (bright orange color), 4G5/26H9/2 (orange reddish color) and 4G5/26H11/2 (red color), respectively. Finally, a series of physical parameters such as the oscillator strengths, refractive index, ions concentration, Polaron radius and other parameters were calculated for each dopant.  相似文献
