New Secondary Metabolites from Asphodelus tenuifolius

Asphorins A and B ( 1 and 2 , resp.), two new triterpene glycosides, have been isolated along with a new chromone, 3 , from the AcOEt subfraction of the MeOH extract of the whole plant of Asphodelus tenuifolius. Their structures were elucidated by spectral analysis including 2D‐NMR spectroscopic experiments.

An In Vitro Study of the Interaction of Copper(II) Salicylates with Genomic DNA Using Gel Electrophoresis and Gel Permeation Chromatography

This papers describes the in vitro interaction of copper(II) acetylsalicylate and copper(II) salicylate with genomic DNA isolated from human blood. The two drug substances were found to bind to DNA after incubation with whole blood over night. Bonding was confirmed by detection of separated DNA electrophoresis bands for copper, copper(II) acetylsalicylate, copper(II) salicylate, acetylsalicylic acid and salicylic acid. Drug–DNA interactions were observed during electrophoresis in the form of fragmentation by formation of two bands when compared to controls. Gel permeation chromatography parameters also confirmed the occurrence of fragmentation. The use of gel permeation chromatography parameters as a measure of fragmentation of DNA is discussed. The fragmentation of genomic DNA after incubation with copper(II) acetylsalicylate and copper(II) salicylate suggested that these drug substances might be responsible for cytotoxicity in vivo.     

4-Deacetylbaccatin III: a proposed biosynthetic precursor of paclitaxel from the bark of Taxus wallichiana

4-Deacetylbaccatin III was isolated and characterized from the bark of Taxus wallichiana Zucc. It was previously identified as an intermediate during the synthesis of paclitaxel and was proposed as a precursor for the biosynthesis of paclitaxel. Existence of 4-deacetylbaccatin III in T. wallichiana is strong evidence for the previously proposed biosynthetic pathway of paclitaxel via 4-deacetylbaccatin III.     

Nonstatic axisymmetric universe model and its evolution

An axisymmetric rotating universe model is crossed with a time-dependent factor. Its evolution is studied. It turns out that for a particular choice it behaves exactly like that of a flat Friedmann universe.     

Parametric thermal analysis of a single molten metal droplet as applied to layered manufacturing

In the present study a parametric thermal analysis of a single molten metal droplet deposited on a large substrate has been performed with application to various solid freeform fabrication (SFF) processes employing droplet-based deposition. Simulation is conducted to investigate the effect of droplet shape, substrate thermal properties, substrate size and thermal boundary conditions of substrate base on the cooling rate of the droplet and the substrate. It is found that droplet shape and substrate thermal properties have significant effect only on the solidification time, whereas the steady-state conditions vary significantly with all the process parameters studied.     

Flavonoid Constituents from Spiraea brahuica

Sparins A–C ( 1 – 3 , resp.), three new flavonoids, were isolated from the CHCl₃ subfraction of the EtOH extract of the whole plant of Spiraea brahuica, along with 3′,7‐di‐O‐methylquercetin ( 4 ) and luteolin 7‐β‐D ‐glucopyranoside ( 5 ), reported for the first time from this species. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic techniques including MS and 2D‐NMR spectroscopy.
