Three simple and sensitive colorimetric methods (A–C) for the determination of melatonin in bulk samples and in pharmaceutical
formulations are described. They are based on the formation of coloured species by reaction of ninhydrin with the drug (method
A, λmax 397 nm) by oxidation of the indol moiety in melatonin with potassium persulphate (method B, λmax 450 nm) or by reduction of osmium (VIII) (method C, λmax 516 nm). Regression analysis of Beer-Lambert plots showed good correlations in concentration ranges between 0.8–14.2, 70.0–140.0
and 2.0–40.0 μg/mL for methods A, B and C, respectively. The molar absorptivity, Sandell sensitivity and detection limit were
calculated. For more accurate analysis, Ringbom optimum concentration ranges were calculated. The validity of the proposed
methods was tested by analysing pharmaceutical formulations containing melatonin. The relative standard deviations were ≤ 0.95%
with recoveries 99.0–101.33%.

Non-muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (NMIBC) accounts for 80% of all bladder cancers. Although it is mostly low-grade tumors, its high recurrence rate necessitates three-times-monthly follow-ups and cystoscopy examinations to detect and prevent its progression. A rapid liquid biopsy-based assay is needed to improve detection and reduce complications from invasive cystoscopy. Here, we present a rapid spectroscopic method to detect the recurrence of NMIBC in urine. Urine samples from previously-diagnosed NMIBC patients (n = 62) were collected during their follow-up visits before cystoscopy examination. Cystoscopy results were recorded (41 cancer-free and 21 recurrence) and attenuated total refraction Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectra were acquired from urine samples using direct application. Spectral processing and normalization were optimized using parameter grid searching. We assessed their technical variability through multivariate analysis and principal component analysis (PCA). We assessed 35 machine learning models on a training set (70%), and the performance was evaluated on a held-out test set (30%). A Regularized Random Forests (RRF) model achieved a 0.92 area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) with 86% sensitivity and 77% specificity. In conclusion, our spectroscopic liquid biopsy approach provides a promising technique for the early identification of NMIBC with a less invasive examination. 相似文献

Progress in optical fiber communications allows ever-increasing channel capacity for local area networks (LANs). However, there are still many problems to solve with respect to bridges interconnecting these LANs, which constitute a system bottleneck. To eliminate the bridge bottleneck in the interconnection of fiber optic LANs, a high-speed bridge using optical technology is proposed. The proposed optical bridge uses bistable optical devices, such as interference filters, as essential components of its design. This study proposes a new model that couples the piezoelectric and electrostrictive behavior to minimize the polarization power of composite polymer. The development of this model is capable to predict the energy harvesting abilities of an electrostrictive composite. To improve the dielectric permittivity of electrostrictive polymer, the particles of PZT have been incorporated in order to increase the conversion efficiency of the composite. Dielectric characterization tests showed an increase in dielectric permittivity by a factor of 4.5 compared to pure polymer. Experimental measurements of harvested power validate the analytical model and demonstrate a good correlation between the two data. An equivalent of an electrical scheme has been developed, which allows modeling the two behaviors. The harvested power density under low frequency at 2% of strain can reach 0.30 μW/cm3 for 33% of PZT without the polarization field, including the conversion efficiency becomes higher. The energy harvester property of this material composite has excellent potential for several self‐powered applications such as wireless sensor networks and the internet of things. 相似文献

The literature suggests that investors prefer portfolios based on mean, variance and skewness rather than portfolios based on mean–variance (MV) criteria solely. Furthermore, a small variety of methods have been proposed to determine mean–variance–skewness (MVS) optimal portfolios. Recently, the shortage function has been introduced as a measure of efficiency, allowing to characterize MVS optimal portfolios using non-parametric mathematical programming tools. While tracing the MV portfolio frontier has become trivial, the geometric representation of the MVS frontier is an open challenge. A hitherto unnoticed advantage of the shortage function is that it allows to geometrically represent the MVS portfolio frontier. Wet oxidation (high-temperature, high-pressure oxidation of organic wastes in aqueous solution) and radiation technology were combined in γ-ray and electron beam induced oxidation of 4×10?4–1×10?2 mol dm?3 Na-phenolate solutions in a wide O2 concentration (1–20 bar pressure) and absorbed dose (0–50 kGy) range. Most experiments were made in stainless steel high pressure autoclave equipped with magnetic stirrer. The rate of oxidation was followed by chemical oxygen demand and total organic carbon content measurements.
