Evaluation of Dead Time Calculation in Reversed-Phase Liquid Chromatography Using a Multiparametric Mathematical Method

In reversed phase liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), the validity of a multiparametric non-linear least-squares regression iterative method for the determination of the column dead time t_M and the regression parameter (slope b), based on the use of alkan-2-ones, alkyl aryl ketones, and 1-nitroalkanes has been evaluated. The determination of t_M and b has been extensively studied for two mobile phase systems acetonitrile-water and methanol-water on seven octadecyl-C₁₈ and one octyl C₈ analytical columns. The calculated t_M and b values were compared with those obtained by Guardino's and Grobler's methods. The influence exerted thereon by the nature of the homologous series, the mobile phase composition, and the packing materials were investigated.     

Oxandrastins: Antibacterial Meroterpenes from an Australian Mud Dauber Wasp Nest-Associated Fungus,Penicillium sp. CMB-MD14

The ethyl acetate extract of an ISP-2 agar cultivation of the wasp nest-associated fungus Penicillium sp. CMB-MD14 exhibited promising antibacterial activity against vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), with a bioassay guided chemical investigation yielding the new meroterpene, oxandrastin A (1), the first andrastin-like metabolite with an extra oxygenation at C-2. A culture media optimisation strategy informed a scaled-up rice cultivation that yielded 1, together with three new oxandrastins B–D (2–4), two known andrastins C (5) and F (6), and a new meroterpene of the austalide family, isoaustalide F (7). Structures of 1–7 were assigned based on detailed spectroscopic analysis and chemical interconversion. A GNPS molecular networking analysis of the rice cultivation extract detected the known austalides B (8), H (9), and H acid (10), tentatively identified based on molecular formulae and co-clustering with 7. That the anti-VRE properties of the CMB-MD14 extract were exclusively attributed to 1 (IC₅₀ 6.0 µM, MIC₉₉ 13.9 µM), highlights the importance of the 2-OAc and 3-OAc moieties to the oxandrastin anti-VRE pharmacophore.

Synthesis and cytotoxic activity of some novel benzocoumarin derivatives under solvent free conditions

In the present study, a rapid, less expensive, clean and environmental friendly route to synthesis new pyrazoles, pyrazolopyridazines and condensed pyrimidines was developed via grinding of 2-(3-(dimethylamino)acryloyl)-3H-benzo[f]chromen-3-one (1) with different reagents. All the new compounds were characterized and established using elemental analysis and spectral data. Eight compounds were selected for in vitro antiproliferative against different human cancer cell lines entitled melanoma, cancers of the lung, leukemia, breast, brain, colon, prostate, ovary and kidney by the USA NCI.     

Mass and thermal transport in liquid Cu-Ag alloys

In this paper, the diffusion, thermodynamic and thermotransport properties in Cu–Ag liquid alloys are extensively investigated with molecular dynamics over a wide composition and temperature range. The simulations are performed with the most reliable EAM potential. The Green-Kubo formalism is employed for calculating transport properties. It is found that the reduced heat of transport in Cu–Ag is very small (about 0.10?eV in absolute value) and almost temperature independent. Further it is found that the interdiffusion coefficient together with both self-diffusion coefficients are almost composition independent. In Cu–Ag, the thermodynamic factor is found to be less than unity whereas the Manning factor is greater than unity (with significant composition and temperature dependence) and their product is very close to 1.

Chemically reactive and radiative von Kármán swirling flow due to a rotating disk

A new mathematical model is presented to study the heat and mass transfer characteristics of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Maxwell fluid flow over a convectively heated stretchable rotating disk. To regulate the fluid temperature at the surface, a simple isothermal model of homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions is employed. The impact of nonlinear thermal radiative heat flux on thermal transport features is studied. The transformed nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations is solved numerically with an efficient method, namely, the Runge-Kutta-Felberg fourth-order and fifth-order (RKF45) integration scheme using the MAPLE software. Achieved results are validated with previous studies in an excellent way. Major outcomes reveal that the magnetic flux reduces the velocity components in the radial, angular, and axial directions, and enhances the fluid temperature. Also, the presence of radiative heat flux is to raise the temperature of fluid. Further, the strength of homogeneous–heterogeneous reactions is useful to diminish the concentration of reaction.
