The photosensitive Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction was investigated on a circular ring, which was drawn using computer software and then projected on a film soaked with BZ solution using a liquid-crystal projector. Under the initial conditions, a chemical wave propagated with a constant velocity on the black ring under a bright background. When the background was rapidly changed to dark, coexistence of the oscillation on part of the ring and propagation of the chemical wave on the other part was observed. The propagation of chemical waves in the photosensitive Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction was investigated using an excitable field composed of two rings in slight contact, which were drawn using computer software and then projected on a film soaked with BZ solution using a liquid-crystal projector. When the initial phase difference between the two chemical waves in the individual rings was smaller than a critical value, this initial value was maintained after collision of the chemical waves. However, when the initial phase difference was larger than this critical value, the phase difference converged to the same value after the second collision. The critical value increased with an increase in the thickness of the rings. These experimental results on the geometry of the excitable field are discussed in relation to the nature of chemical wave propagation. These results suggest that the photosensitive BZ reaction may be useful for creating spatiotemporal patterns that depend on the geometric arrangement of excitable fields. 相似文献

Three new type indoloditerpenes, emindoles PA (1), PB (2), and PC (3), were isolated from the mycelium of Emericella purpurea along with the sesterterpenes variecolol and variecolactone, and the dicyanide derivatives epurpurins A to C. The structures of 1-3 were confirmed by the spectroscopic investigation. The structure of emindoles PA (1) was revised from our preliminary report. We evaluate the Fisher information of a population of model neurons that receive dynamical input and interact via spikes. With spatially independent threshold noise, the spike-based Fisher information that summarizes the information carried by individual spike timings has a particularly simple analytical form. We calculate the loss of information caused by abandoning spike timing and study the effect of synaptic connections on the Fisher information. For a simple spatiotemporal input, we derive the optimal recurrent connectivity that has a local excitation and global inhibition structure. The optimal synaptic connections depend on the spatial or temporal feature of the input that the system is designed to code. 相似文献

In order to know the relationship among some elements in biological materials, iodine, bromine and chlorine concentrations in cow's milk samples in Japan were determined by the thermal neutron activation analysis using a low power research reactor and a Van de Graaff accelerator. The iodine contents in cow's milk samples ranged from 0.041 to 0.316 ppm with an average of 0.096 ppm. The bromine and chlorine in these samples ranged from 2.3 to 11.1 ppm and from 475 to 1650 ppm, respectively. The average concentration of the bromine was calculated to be 5.6 ppm and that of the chlorine was 853 ppm. The relationship among iodine, bromine and chlorine concentrations in cow's milk samples in Japan was studied with a regression analysis. It was suggested that the correlation has a power function as follows; Y = K(Z)-A where, Y is elemental concentration in ppm, Z is atomic weight [corrected] of element, A (= 7.4) is exponent and K (= 14.7) is a constant. 相似文献

Proton NMR spectra of short peptides with a glycyl (Gly) or N-methylglycyl (sarcosyl, Sar) residue were measured in various mixed solvents with a wide range of dielectric constants: 78.3-2.3. From analyses of the octet and quartet signals of the geminal alpha-protons of Gly and Sar residues, respectively, we have estimated chemical shift differences between the two alpha-protons, Delta delta(alpha/alpha'). It is found that the Delta delta(alpha/alpha') values increase with decreasing solvent polarity and the increasing rates depend significantly on amino acid sequences. By referring to infrared spectra and chemical shift of the terminal NH protons, deltaNH, of the peptides, the Delta delta(alpha/alpha') values were found to be a good probe of beta-turn formation. From solvent-dependent change of Delta delta(alpha/alpha'), we estimated the free energies for the beta-turn formation and compared the results with those estimated from deltaNH. Using the resulting free energies, we have discussed effects of solvent on the beta-turn formation. 相似文献
