Complexes pondérés sur les compactifications de Baily-Borel: Le cas des variétés de Siegel

In this work, we calculate the trace of a Hecke correspondance composed with a power of the Frobenius endomorphism on the fibre of the intersection complexes of the Baily-Borel compactification of a Siegel modular variety.

Our main tool is Pink's theorem about the restriction to the strata of the Baily-Borel compactification of the direct image of a local system on the Shimura variety. To use this theorem, we give a new construction of the intermediate extension of a pure perverse sheaf as a weight truncation of the full direct image.

More generally, we are able to define analogs in positive characteristic of the weighted cohomology complexes introduced by Goresky, Harder and MacPherson.

     

Characterization of Glycosyltransferase Activity of Wild-Type Leuconostoc mesenteroides Strains from Bulgarian Fermented Vegetables

Glycosyltransferase activity of 13 Leuconostoc mesenteroides strains isolated from Bulgarian fermented vegetables was investigated. All the strains displayed a mucoid phenotype on sucrose-containing agar media. Strains were characterized according to carbohydrate fermentation, species-specific multiple PCR using several primers, repetitive element-PCR fingerprinting using (GTG)₅ primers and glycosyltransferase activity. Level of activity and cellular localization (soluble or cell-associated) were variable among strains. Precipitation of exopolysaccharides produced from sucrose by the soluble fractions from these strains allowed recovery of only glucans and further characterization by ¹H and ¹³C NMR analysis and enzymatic digestion with dextranase revealed dextran production. However, levans could be detected in presence of raffinose as fructosyl donor. Both fructosyltransferase and glucosyltransferase encoding genes were detected by PCR and both active enzymes were detected after functional characterization by SDS-PAGE electrophoresis and in situ polymer production after incubation with sucrose. This work therefore showed that concomitant production of glucosyltransferase and fructosyltransferase is widespread in L. mesenteroides strains.     

Research on nitrogen and sulfur heterocyclic compounds: Synthesis of 10H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]thieno[3,4-e][1,4]-diazepin-5(4H)-one and some derivatives

The synthesis of 10H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]thieno[3,4-e][1,4]diazepin-5(4H)-one ( 16 ) and some derivatives are described from methyl 3-bromomethylthiophene-4-carboxylate ( 5 ). The key step of these sequences is the intramolecular cyclization of the carbonylazides 12 and 13 .     

Quark jet as a trigger for gluon jet in deep inelastic muon scattering

We calculate, to first order in QCD, the probability for a fast hadron observed at laboratory angle θ _h from the virtual photon directionq, to originate from the quark of a quark-gluon final state. Given this probability, the average gluon energy and angle with respect toq are then calculated. This approach provides a method for gluon jet direction in forthcoming experiments.     

Standard molar enthalpies,volumes, and heat capacities of adamantane in cyclohexane,n-hexane,and carbon tetrachloride. Interpretation using the scaled-particle theory

The volumes, heat capacities, and enthalpies of solution of adamantane in cycloxane,n-hexane, and carbon tetrachloride have been measured as a function of concentration at 25°C (15, 25, and 35°C for the volumes). The results extrapolated to infinite dilution have been resolved into cavity formation and interaction terms. The former have been calculated from the equations of the scaled-particle theory. To estimate the contribution from the latter, we have assumed some proportionality between adamantane-solvent and cyclohexane-solvent interactions. This assumption has been verified with the three different solvents for the three studied thermodynamic functions. The diameter of adamantane in solution has been determined to be 6.36 Å.     

Application of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization to on-line aerosol time-of-flight mass spectrometry

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectra were obtained from single biological aerosol particles using an aerosol time-of-flight mass spectrometer (ATOFMS). The inlet to the ATOFMS was coupled with an evaporation/condensation flow cell that allowed the aerosol to be coated with matrix material as the sampled stream entered the spectrometer. Mass spectra were generated from aerosol composed either of gramicidin-S or erythromycin, two small biological molecules, or from aerosolised spores of Bacillus subtilis var niger. Three different matrices were used: 3-nitrobenzyl alcohol, picolinic acid and sinapinic acid. A spectrum of gramicidin-S was generated from approximately 250 attomoles of material using a molar ratio of 3-nitrobenzyl alcohol to analyte of approximately 20:1. A single peak, located at 1224 Da, was obtained from the bacterial spores. The washing liquid and extract solution from the spores were analyzed using electrospray mass spectrometry and subsequent MS/MS product ion experiments. This independent analysis suggests that the measured species represents part of the B. subtilis peptidoglycan. The on-line addition of matrix allows quasi-real-time chemical analysis of individual, aerodynamically sized particles, with an overall system residence time of less than 5 seconds. These results suggest that a MALDI-ATOFMS can provide nearly real-time identification of biological aerosols. Copyright 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Addition nucleophile des anions d'esters α-cyanoacetiques sur les cations succinimidosulfonium: Fragmentation ionique ou radicalaire des′ σ-sulfuranes intermediaires

Reactions of substituted cyanoacetate anions 4 with S,S-dialayklsuccinimidosulfonium salts resulted generally in the formation of N-alkylthiomethylketenimines and α-alkylthiomethylesters. Coupling products were also obtained with anion 4d and only observed in the case of methyl phenylcyanoacetate anion 4b. The results were interpreted by the formation of instable σ-sulfurane intermediates. Homolytic cleavage of these intermediates gave radical pairs, then the coupling products. Heterocyclic clevage gave new sulfonium salts which rearranged via sulfonium ylides.
