A short review on latest developments in catalytic depolymerization of Poly (ethylene terephathalate) wastes

Chemical recycling of plastic wastes is top among the effective management of the solid wastes. Particularly the post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic wastes mainly generated from the disposal of beverage bottles and placed third most produced polymeric waste. However, PET wastes could be chemically recycled using several types of homo-/heterogeneous acid or base catalysts, and an effective recycling process has yet to be achieved. Therefore, the present short review is intended to display recent reports on the depolymerization of PET polymer wastes. The review aimed to cover glycolysis and aminolytic depolymerization using various catalytic systems. There is a wide spectrum of catalytic systems such as metal oxides, ionic liquids, organic bases, nanoparticles, porous materials and microwave-assisted rapid depolymerization methods have been developed toward the yield enhancement of the depolymerized products. Ideologically, the present review would benefit the researchers in familiarizing themselves with the latest developments in this field.     

Synthesis of acridinedione derivatives as laser dyes

Synthesis of 9-alkyl, 10-alkyl, 9,10-dialkyl, and 10-aryl-3,4,6,7,9,10-hexahydro-1,8(2H,5H)acridinedione (2a–r) are described as a new class of laser dyes. Reactions of diamines with methylene bis(cyclohexane-1,3-dione) yielded the respective bisacridinediones (3a–e). These dyes lase around 478–494 nm and are compared with the standard dye coumarin-102. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Investigations on temperature dependent structural evolution of NaPO3 glass

The understanding of molecular level structural information of phosphate glasses is very much essential. The unique microwave-absorbing ability of NaH₂PO₄·2H₂O was found to be very useful for preparing crystal and glassy sodium super ionic conductors (Nasicon's) as a component of batch mixtures. In this work NaPO₃ glass was prepared by both conventional melt quench and microwave heating from NaH₂PO₄·2H₂O as a starting material. The structure of NaPO₃ glass and their structural evolution upon heating through glass transition were probed by combination of complementary techniques like differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and thermo-Raman spectroscopy.This revised version was published online in November 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Comparative Enrichment Capabilities of Some Carbonaceous and Macroreticular Resins Using Selected Radioactive Model Compounds in Fortified Aqueous Samples

Abstract

The concentration efficiency of synthetic macroreticular resins, XAD-2 and XAD-7 and carbonaceous resins, XE-340, XE-347 and XE-348 was evaluated and compared using trace levels of eight radioactive model environmental contaminants present in aqueous medium. Influences of chemical functionalities of the solvents, physical characteristics of the sorbents, and pH of the aqueous medium on sorption of the model compounds were investigated under frontal dynamic chromatographic conditions. The elution behavior of these sorbates and desorption properties of the polymer adsorbents with respect to solvents of different polarities were studied.     

Anti-cancer activity of novel dibenzo[b,f]azepine tethered isoxazoline derivatives

Background  

Nef is an HIV-1 accessory protein essential for viral replication and AIDS progression. Nef interacts with a multitude of host cell signaling partners, including members of the Src kinase family. Nef preferentially activates Hck, a Src-family kinase (SFK) strongly expressed in macrophages and other HIV target cells, by binding to its regulatory SH3 domain. Recently, we identified a series of kinase inhibitors that preferentially inhibit Hck in the presence of Nef. These compounds also block Nef-dependent HIV replication, validating the Nef-SFK signaling pathway as an antiretroviral drug target. Our findings also suggested that by binding to the Hck SH3 domain, Nef indirectly affects the conformation of the kinase active site to favor inhibitor association.     

Synthesis and Cytotoxic Activity of Novel Pyrazoline Derivatives against Human Lung Tumor Cell Line (A549)

In the present investigation, a series of 5‐(‐4‐(substituted)phenyl)‐3‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methylphenyl)‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐1‐pyrazolyl‐2‐toluidino methane thione and 5‐(substituted)phenyl‐3‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methylphenyl)‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐1‐pyrazolyl‐2‐methoxy anilino methane thiones were synthesized and were examined against human lung tumor cell line (A549) in vitro using the MTT assay system. Among those tested, 5‐(4‐flurophenyl)‐3‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methylphenyl)‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐1‐pyrazolyl‐2‐toluidino methane thione & 5‐(4‐chlorophenyl)‐3‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methylphenyl)‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐1‐pyrazolyl‐2‐methoxy anilino methane thione showed more potent cytotoxicity against human lung tumor cell line (A549) than the other synthesized compounds.     

Efficient and Practical Synthesis of Dissymmetrical Ethers of 4-Nitrocatechol

An efficient and practical synthesis of dissymmetrical ethers of 4-nitrocatechol from 5-nitrosalicyladehyde and 2-hydroxy-5-nitroacetophenone via Baeyer–Villiger oxidation is described. These dissymmetrical ethers are useful in the synthesis of various coccidiostats and other important pharmaceutical intermediates.
