The effect of level and frequency on the audibility of partials was measured for complex tones with partials uniformly spaced on an equivalent rectangular bandwidth (ERB(N)) number scale. On each trial, subjects heard a sinusoidal "probe" followed by a complex tone. The probe was mistuned downwards or upwards (at random) by 4.5% from the frequency of one randomly selected partial in the complex. The subject indicated whether the probe was higher or lower in frequency than the nearest partial in the complex. The frequencies were roved from trial to trial, keeping frequency ratios fixed. In experiment 1, the level per partial, L, was 40 or 70 dB SPL and the mean frequency of the central partial, f(c), was 1201 Hz. Scores for the highest and lowest partials in the complexes were generally high for all spacings. Scores for the inner partials were close to chance at 0.75-ERB(N) spacing, and improved as the spacing was increased up to 2 ERB(N). For intermediate spacings, performance was better for the lower level used. In experiment 2, L was 70 dB SPL and f(c) was 3544 Hz. Performance worsened markedly for partial frequencies above 3544 Hz, consistent with a role of phase locking.  相似文献

A development program is underway at the IGISOL (Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line) facility, University of Jyväskylä, to efficiently and selectively produce low-energy radioactive ion beams of silver isotopes and isomers, with a particular interest in N = Z 94Ag . A hot cavity ion source has been installed, based on the FEBIAD (Forced Electron Beam Induced Arc Discharge) technique, combined with a titanium:sapphire laser system for selective laser ionization. The silver recoils produced via the heavy-ion fusion-evaporation reaction, 40Ca(58Ni, p3n)94Ag , are stopped in a graphite catcher, diffused, extracted and subsequently ionized using a three-step laser ionization scheme. The performance of the different components of the hot cavity laser ion source is discussed and initial results using stable 107, 109Ag are presented.  相似文献

The leading-order effect of interactions on a homogeneous Bose gas is theoretically predicted to shift the critical temperature by an amount DeltaT(c) approximately equal to ca(sc)n(1/3)T(0) from the ideal gas result T(0), where a(sc) is the scattering length, n is the density, and c is a pure number. There have been several different theoretical estimates for c. We claim to settle the issue by measuring the numerical coefficient in a lattice simulation of O(2) straight phi(4) field theory in three dimensions-an effective theory which, as observed previously in the literature, can be systematically matched to the dilute Bose gas problem to reproduce nonuniversal quantities such as the critical temperature. A general principle of causal duality for physical systems, lying at the base of representation theorems for both compound and evolving systems, is proved; formally it is encoded in a quantaloidal setting. Other particular examples of quantaloids and quantaloidal morphisms appear naturally within this setting; as in the case of causal duality, they originate from primitive physical reasonings on the lattices of properties of physical systems. Furthermore, an essentially dynamical operational foundation for studying physical systems is outlined; complementary as it is to the existing static operational foundation, it leads to the natural axiomatization of causal duality in operational quantum logic.  相似文献

Detection and discrimination of spectral peaks and notches at 1 and 8 kHz   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The ability of subjects to detect and discriminate spectral peaks and notches in noise stimuli was determined for center frequencies fc of 1 and 8 kHz. The signals were delivered using an insert earphone designed to produce a flat frequency response at the eardrum for frequencies up to 14 kHz. In experiment I, subjects were required to distinguish a broadband reference noise with a flat spectrum from a noise with either a peak or a notch at fc. The threshold peak height or notch depth was determined as a function of bandwidth of the peak or notch (0.125, 0.25, or 0.5 times fc). Thresholds increased with decreasing bandwidth, particularly for the notches. In experiment II, subjects were required to detect an increase in the height of a spectral peak or a decrease in the depth of a notch as a function of bandwidth. Performance was worse for notches than for peaks, particularly at narrow bandwidths. For both experiments I and II, randomizing (roving) the overall level of the stimuli had little effect at 1 kHz, but tended to impair performance at 8 kHz, particularly for notches. Experiments III-VI measured thresholds for detecting changes in center frequency of sinusoids, bands of noise, and spectral peaks or notches in a broadband background. Thresholds were lowest for the sinusoids and highest for the peaks and notches. The width of the bands, peaks, or notches had only a small effect on thresholds. For the notches at 8 kHz, thresholds for detecting glides in center frequency were lower than thresholds for detecting a difference in center frequency between two steady sounds. Randomizing the overall level of the stimuli made frequency discrimination of the sinusoids worse, but had little or no effect for the noise stimuli. In all six experiments, performance was generally worse at 8 kHz than at 1 kHz. The results are discussed in terms of their implications for the detectability of spectral cues introduced by the pinnae.  相似文献

The ion guide technique was developed in Jyv?skyl? during the early 1980's. In the ion guide the reaction recoil products are stopped and thermalized in high purity helium gas where they remain ionic due to high ionization potential of helium atoms. Different designs of ion guide exist for light-ion induced fusion reactions, for heavy-ion induced fusion and for proton induced fission. Although the IGISOL method is fast and universal it is chemically unselective and in many cases relatively inefficient. In order to address these deficiencies in the technique, a new laser ion source project, FURIOS (Fast Universal Resonant laser Ion Source), commenced in 2004. In addition, resonance ionization spectroscopy has been tested off – line within a sextupole ion beam guide.  相似文献
