The complexation of plutonium(IV) with sulfate at variable temperatures has been investigated by solvent extraction method.
A NaBrO3 solution was used as holding oxidant to maintain the plutonium(IV) oxidation state throughout the experiments. The distribution
ratio of Pu(IV) between the organic and aqueous phases was found to decrease as the concentrations of sulfate were increased.
Stability constants of the 1:1 and 1:2 Pu(IV)-HSO4
− complexes, dominant in the aqueous phase, were calculated from the effect of [HSO4
−] on the distribution ratio. The enthalpy and entropy of complexation were calculated from the stability constants at different

Assembly theory (referred to in prior works as pathway assembly) has been developed to explore the extrinsic information required to distinguish a given object from a random ensemble. In prior work, we explored the key concepts relating to deconstructing an object into its irreducible parts and then evaluating the minimum number of steps required to rebuild it, allowing for the reuse of constructed sub-objects. We have also explored the application of this approach to molecules, as molecular assembly, and how molecular assembly can be inferred experimentally and used for life detection. In this article, we formalise the core assembly concepts mathematically in terms of assembly spaces and related concepts and determine bounds on the assembly index. We explore examples of constructing assembly spaces for mathematical and physical objects and propose that objects with a high assembly index can be uniquely identified as those that must have been produced using directed biological or technological processes rather than purely random processes, thereby defining a new scale of aliveness. We think this approach is needed to help identify the new physical and chemical laws needed to understand what life is, by quantifying what life does. 相似文献

A survey of data on the perception of binaurally presented sounds indicates that loudness summation across ears is less than perfect; a diotic sound is less than twice as loud as the same sound presented monaurally. The loudness model proposed by Moore et al. [J. Audio Eng. Soc. 45, 224-240 (1997)] determines the loudness of binaural stimuli by a simple summation of loudness across ears. It is described here how the model can be modified so as to give more accurate predictions of the loudness of binaurally presented sounds, including cases where the sounds at the two ears differ in level, frequency or both. The modification is based on the idea that there are inhibitory interactions between the internal representations of the signals at the two ears, such that a signal at the left ear inhibits (reduces) the loudness evoked by a signal at the right ear, and vice versa. The inhibition is assumed to spread across frequency channels. The modified model gives reasonably accurate predictions of a variety of data on the loudness of binaural stimuli, including data obtained using loudness scaling and loudness matching procedures. 相似文献

The proposed Penning trap mass spectrometer, to be located at the TASCC facility of the Chalk River Laboratories, is described. The facility will be used for precise atomic mass determinations among both stable and unstable nuclides. The unstable nuclides would be produced in heavy ion reactions using the TASCC facility. The products from these reactions would be collected using an He-jet transport system loaded with NaCl aerosols. After transport to a background free area, the nuclides of interest would be laser desorbed and resonantly ionized. Subsequently, these ions would be accumulated in a Paul trap, cooled and injected into a precision Penning trap mass spectrometer for mass analysis. 相似文献

In this Letter, we investigate a class of Hamiltonians which, in addition to the usual center-of-mass momentum conservation, also have center-of-mass position conservation. We find that, regardless of the particle statistics, the energy spectrum is at least q-fold degenerate when the filling factor is p/q, where and are coprime integers. Interestingly, the simplest Hamiltonian respecting this type of symmetry encapsulates two prominent examples of novel states of matter, namely, the fractional quantum Hall liquid and the quantum dimer liquid. We discuss the relevance of this class of Hamiltonian to the search for featureless Mott insulators. 相似文献

Thresholds for discriminating the fundamental frequency (FO) of a complex tone, FODLs, are small when low harmonics are present, but increase when the number of the lowest harmonic, N, is above eight. To assess whether the relatively small FODLs for N in the range 8-10 are based on (partly) resolved harmonics or on temporal fine structure information, FODLs were measured as a function of N for tones with three successive harmonics which were added either in cosine or alternating phase. The center frequency was 2000 Hz, and N was varied by changing the mean FO. A background noise was used to mask combination tones. The value of FO was roved across trials to force subjects to make within-trial comparisons. N was roved by +/- 1 for every stimulus, to prevent subjects from using excitation pattern cues. FODLs were not influenced by component phase for N= 6 or 7, but were smaller for cosine than for alternating phase once N exceeded 7, suggesting that temporal fine structure plays a role in this range. When the center frequency was increased to 5000 Hz, performance was much worse for low N, suggesting that phase locking is important for obtaining low FODLs with resolved harmonics. 相似文献
