Oxide-layer tunnel junctions exhibiting both quasi-particle and Josephson tunneling were produced by overlaying lead on niobium-tin thin films. The superconducting transition temperature and average energy gap of the Nb-Sn both increased as the tin concentration was increased toward Nb3Sn and reached maximum values of 17.2 K and 3.2 meV, respectively, or 2Δ = 4.3 kTc.  相似文献

When a signal is higher in frequency than a narrow-band masker, thresholds are lower when the masker envelope fluctuates than when it is constant. This article investigates the cues used to achieve the lower thresholds, and the factors that influence the amount of threshold reduction. In experiment I the masker was either a sinusoid (constant envelope) or a pair of equal-amplitude sinusoids (fluctuating envelope) centered at the same frequency as the single sinusoid (250, 1000, 3000, or 5275 Hz). The signal frequency was 1.8 times the masker frequency. At all center frequencies, thresholds were lower for the two-tone masker than for the sinusoidal masker, but the effect was smaller at the highest and lowest frequencies. The reduced effect at high frequencies is attributed to the loss of a cue related to phase locking in the auditory nerve. The reduced effect at low frequencies can be partly explained by reduced slopes of the growth-of-masking functions. In experiment II the masker was a sinusoid amplitude modulated at an 8-Hz rate. Masker and signal frequencies were the same as for the first experiment. Randomizing the modulation depth between the two halves of a forced-choice trial had no effect on thresholds, indicating that changes in modulation depth are not used as a cue for signal detection. Thresholds in the modulated masker were higher than would be predicted if they were determined only by the masker level at minima in the envelope, and the threshold reduction produced by modulating the master envelope was less at 250 Hz than at higher frequencies. Experiments III and IV reveal two factors that contribute to the reduced release from masking at low frequencies: The rate of increase of masked threshold with decreasing duration is greater at 250 Hz than at 1000 Hz; the amount of forward masking, relative to simultaneous masking, is greater at 250 Hz than at 1000 Hz. The results are discussed in terms of the relative importance of across-channel cues and within-channel cues.  相似文献

Results of Raman scattering experiments on (a) periodic superlattices made up of GaAs/InxGa1−xAs layers with high indium concentrations, (b) GaAs/Ga1−xAlxAs Fibonacci superlattices, are presented. A general principle of causal duality for physical systems, lying at the base of representation theorems for both compound and evolving systems, is proved; formally it is encoded in a quantaloidal setting. Other particular examples of quantaloids and quantaloidal morphisms appear naturally within this setting; as in the case of causal duality, they originate from primitive physical reasonings on the lattices of properties of physical systems. Furthermore, an essentially dynamical operational foundation for studying physical systems is outlined; complementary as it is to the existing static operational foundation, it leads to the natural axiomatization of causal duality in operational quantum logic.  相似文献

The leading-order effect of interactions on a homogeneous Bose gas is theoretically predicted to shift the critical temperature by an amount DeltaT(c) approximately equal to ca(sc)n(1/3)T(0) from the ideal gas result T(0), where a(sc) is the scattering length, n is the density, and c is a pure number. There have been several different theoretical estimates for c. We claim to settle the issue by measuring the numerical coefficient in a lattice simulation of O(2) straight phi(4) field theory in three dimensions-an effective theory which, as observed previously in the literature, can be systematically matched to the dilute Bose gas problem to reproduce nonuniversal quantities such as the critical temperature. Fourteen thin-film optical sensors in which halide-sensitive fluorophores are immobilized in a thin copolymer film (50 m, dry) have been developed and characterized. The sensor films use rhodamine, 6-methoxyquinoline, and harmane dyes which have been functionalized and bound to a hydrophilic copolymer. The sensor films are reversibly capable of determining aqueous bromide and iodide with 4 and 2% accuracy, respectively, at concentrations of around 10–3 mol dm–3, and are more sensitive than previous plastic sensor fabrications. The 90% response time to molar iodide is 30–60 s. A combination of sensor films allows the simultaneous determination of both I and Br in a mixed-halide solution. The interference of several ions, including pseudo-halides, on the sensor films has been studied.  相似文献

Loudness matches were obtained between unmodulated carriers and carriers that were amplitude modulated either periodically (rates between 2 and 32 Hz, modulation sinusoidal either on a linear amplitude scale or on a dB scale; the latter is called dB modulation) or with the envelope of the speech of a single talker. The carrier was a 4-kHz sinusoid, white noise, or speech-shaped noise. Both normally hearing subjects and subjects with cochlear hearing loss were tested. Results were expressed as the root-mean-square (rms) level of the modulated carrier minus the level of the unmodulated carrier at the point of equal loudness. If this difference is positive, this indicates that the modulated carrier has a higher rms level at the point of equal loudness. For normally hearing subjects, the results show: (1) For a 4000-Hz sinusoidal carrier, the difference was slightly positive (averaging about 0.7 dB). There was no significant effect of modulation rate or level over the range 20-80 dB SL. (2) For a speech-shaped noise or white noise carrier, the difference was close to zero, although for large modulation depths it tended to be negative. There was no clear effect of level (over the range 35-75 dB SPL) or modulation rate. For the hearing-impaired subjects, the differences were small, but tended to be slightly negative for both the 4000-Hz carrier and the noise carriers, when the modulation rate was above 2 Hz. Again, there was no clear effect of overall level. However, for dB modulation, the differences became more negative with increasing modulation depth. For modulation rates in the range 4-32 Hz, the results could be fitted reasonably well using the assumption that the loudness of modulated sounds is based on the rms value of the time-varying intensity of the response of the basilar membrane (taking into account the compression that occurs in the normal cochlea). The implications of the results for the fitting of multi-band compression hearing aids and for the design of loudness meters are discussed.  相似文献

The active mechanism in the cochlea is thought to depend on the integrity of the outer hair cells (OHCs). Cochlear hearing loss is usually associated with damage to both inner hair cells (IHCs) and OHCs, with the latter resulting in a reduction in or complete loss of the function of the active mechanism. It is believed that the active mechanism contributes to the sharpness of tuning on the basilar membrane (BM) and is also responsible for compressive input-output functions on the BM. Hence, one would expect a close relationship between measures of sharpness of tuning and measures of compression. This idea was tested by comparing three different measures of the status of the active mechanism, at center frequencies of 2, 4, and 6 kHz, using subjects with normal hearing, with unilateral or highly asymmetric cochlear hearing loss, and with bilateral loss. The first measure, HLOHC, was an indirect measure of the amount of the hearing loss attributable to OHC damage; this was based on loudness matches between the two ears of subjects with unilateral hearing loss and was derived using a loudness model. The second measure was the equivalent rectangular bandwidth (ERB) of the auditory filter, which was estimated using the notched-noise method. The third measure was based on the slopes of growth-of-masking functions obtained in forward masking. The ratio of slopes for a masker centered well below the signal frequency and a masker centered at the signal frequency gives a measure of BM compression at the place corresponding to the signal frequency; a ratio close to 1 indicates little or no compression, while ratios less than 1 indicate that compression is occurring at the signal place. Generally, the results showed the expected pattern. The ERB tended to increase with increasing HLOHC. The ratio of the forward-masking slopes increased from about 0.3 to about 1 as HLOHC increased from 0 to 55 dB. The ratio of the slopes was highly correlated with the ERB (r = 0.92), indicating that the sharpness of the auditory filter decreases as the compression on the BM decreases.  相似文献

Leclerc posed the problem of determining the dimension of the partially ordered set P consisting of all induced connected subgraphs of a connected graph G for which P is a lattice.In this paper, we prove that the poset P consisting of all induced connected subgraphs of a nontrivial connected graph G, partially ordered by inclusion, has dimension n where n is the number of noncut vertices in G whether or not P is a lattice.
