Brassica villosa subsp. drepanensis (Caruel) Raimondo & Mazzola, belonging to the Brassica oleracea complex, is a wild edible plant endemic to western Sicily and a relative of modern cultivated Brassica crops. In this study, the antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory activities, enzymatic inhibition, and cytotoxicity in cancer cells of B. villosa subsp. drepanensis leaf ethanolic extract were analysed for the first time. In addition, its chemical profile was investigated partitioning the total 70% ethanol extract among ethyl acetate, n-butanol, and water to obtain three residues that were subjected to chromatographic separation. Two flavonol glycosides, a phenol glucoside, two amino acids, and purine/pyrimidine bases were obtained. The presence of the glucosinolate glucoiberin was detected in the water extract by UHPLC-MS analysis. The total polyphenol and flavonoid content of the 70% ethanol extract showed good antioxidant capacities and anti-inflammatory properties by reducing nitric oxide release and reactive oxygen species levels and increasing glutathione in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. The extract inhibited the enzymatic activity of α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and, significantly, of lipase. The MTT assay showed that the extract did not affect the viability of normal HFF-1 and RAW 264.7 cells. Among the cancer cell lines tested, an antiproliferative action was only observed in CaCo-2. The cytotoxicity of the extract was further confirmed by LDH release assay and by the destabilization of the oxidative balance. Results confirmed the antioxidant properties of the crude extract responsible for the anti-inflammatory effect on healthy cells and cytotoxicity in cancer cells. 相似文献

Aging is a very complex process that is accompanied by a degenerative impairment in many of the major functions of the human body over time. This inevitable process is influenced by hereditary factors, lifestyle, and environmental influences such as xenobiotic pollution, infectious agents, UV radiation, diet-borne toxins, and so on. Many external and internal signs and symptoms are related with the aging process and senescence, including skin dryness and wrinkles, atherosclerosis, diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, etc. Oxidative stress, a consequence of the imbalance between pro- and antioxidants, is one of the main provoking factors causing aging-related damages and concerns, due to the generation of highly reactive byproducts such as reactive oxygen and nitrogen species during the metabolism, which result in cellular damage and apoptosis. Antioxidants can prevent these processes and extend healthy longevity due to the ability to inhibit the formation of free radicals or interrupt their propagation, thereby lowering the level of oxidative stress. This review focuses on supporting the antioxidant system of the organism by balancing the diet through the consumption of the necessary amount of natural ingredients, including vitamins, minerals, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), essential amino acids, probiotics, plants’ fibers, nutritional supplements, polyphenols, some phytoextracts, and drinking water. 相似文献

This paper discusses the morphological and chemical features of the weathering products on Sasanian glass finds excavated at the ancient Sasanian town of Veh Arda?īr, some 30 km south of Baghdad (Iraq), and dated from the third to the sixth century. All the considered fragments represent soda-lime glass, with MgO contents between 3% and 8%, resulting from the use of soda-rich plant ash as a flux; within this general frame, two productions can be distinguished due to their MgO to K2O ratio. Four main alteration typologies were observed by visual examination of the excavated samples; these were studied by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. Different alteration features were generally observed for samples belonging to the two compositional groups. In particular, samples with higher MgO to K2O ratios show definitely thinner crusts, associated with alteration plugs going down into the glass. Introductory material first describes electron density approaches and demonstrates visualization of electron lone pairs and bonding as concentrations of electron density. Then it focuses on the application of Bader’s Quantum Theory of Atoms-in-Molecules (AIM) to cellulose models. The purpose of the work is to identify the various interactions that stabilize cellulose structure. AIM analysis aids study of non-covalent interactions, especially those for which geometric criteria are not well established. The models were in the form of pairs of cellotriose molecules, methylated at the O1 and O4 ends. Based on the unit cell of cellulose Iβ, there were corner–corner, and center–center pairs that correspond to (200) sheets, and corner–center pairings that corresponded to (1–10) and (110) stacks. AIM analysis (or charge-density topology analysis) was applied before and after minimization in vacuum and in continuum solvation. Besides the conventional O–H···O hydrogen bonds, all of which were known from geometric criteria, C–H···O hydrogen bonds (some previously reported), and some O···O and H···H interactions were found. Non-covalent bonds in the (200) sheets were maintained in all calculations with the exception of a weak, bifurcated O6–H···O2′′ bond that was not found in the corner–corner pair model and did not survive minimization. Nor did the O6···O4 interactions on the reducing ends of the triosides. Pairs of molecules along the (110) plane had an equal number (12) of non-covalent bonds compared to the pairs along the (1–10) plane, but the AIM parameters indicated the bonds between the pairs in the (110) plane were weaker. Intra-molecular O–H···O hydrogen bonds survived in these minimized pairs, but the relative chain alignments usually did not. 相似文献

We study a space-time extension of the notion of solution to a nonlinear control system with unbounded controls (in the form of derivatives) and state constraints. A natural motivation is provided by minimum problems, where the presence of unbounded controls together with the lack of any coercivity assumption may give rise to minimizing sequences of trajectories which converge to discontinuous maps. The main problem focused on in this paper can be summarized as follows: is the proposed extension a proper extension? Which means: is one able to approximate an extended trajectory with ordinary ones? When the system is subject to a state constraint the answer is generally negative. On the other hand, we prove that under suitable conditions on the vectogram at the boundary points of the constraint set the extension turns out to be proper. 相似文献

Bioadhesive nanoparticles have been proposed as carriers for the oral delivery of poorly available drugs and facilitate the use of this route. This work summarises some experiments describing the bioadhesive potential of Gantrez nanoparticles fluorescently labeled with rhodamine B isothiocyanate. The adhesive potential of Gantrez was found to be stronger when folded as nanoparticles than in the solubilised form. Conventional nanoparticles displayed a tropism for the upper areas of the gastrointestinal tract, with a maximum of adhesion 30 min post-administration and a decrease in the adhered fraction along the time depending on the given dose. The cross-linkage of nanoparticles with increasing amounts of 1,3-diaminopropane stabilised the resulting carriers and prolonged their half-life in an aqueous environment; although, the adhesive capacity of nanoparticles, the intensity and the relative duration of the adhesive interactions within the gut as a function of the cross-linking degree. Finally, nanoparticles were coated with either gelatin or albumin. In the first case, the presence of gelatin dramatically decreased the initial capacity of these carriers to interact with the gut mucosa and the intensity of these phenomenons. In the latter, bovine serum albumin coated nanoparticles (BSA-NP) showed an important tropism for the stomach mucosa without further significant distribution to other parts of the gut mucosa. 相似文献

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were well-functionalized for a study of their defect-derived luminescence properties. The soluble nanotube sample was homogeneously dispersed in poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) films via solution-phase mixing and then wet-casting. The PVA films embedded with the functionalized SWNTs were strongly luminescent according to spectroscopic and confocal microscopic results. The luminescence from the films was highly polarized, with the observed anisotropy value approaching the limit for collinear absorption and emission dipole moments. The films were mechanically stretched to align the embedded nanotubes, and results from luminescence measurements of the stretched films suggested that the excitation was strongly in favor of the direction along the nanotube axis. Mechanistic implications of the polarization spectroscopy results for the luminescent functionalized nanotubes in the polymeric matrix with and without the mechanic alignment are discussed. 相似文献

The adsorption of benzene, toluene, and chlorobenzene on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with and without acid oxidation was conducted to investigate the influences of derivative groups on benzene rings and functional groups from SWCNTs on adsorption by SWCNTs. The SWCNTs of high purity were chosen and moderate acid oxidation was performed so that the surface physical properties remained unchanged after acid oxidation and the influences of acid oxidation on adsorption were only contributed from the modification of the surface chemistry of SWCNTs. The oxygen-containing surface groups introduced by acid oxidation obstructed the interactions between functional groups of nonpolar benzene derivatives and C-rings of SWCNTs significantly. The dispersive interaction between the partially positive H+ of the methyl group and the oxygen-containing surface groups slightly increased the adsorption of toluene on oxidized SWCNTs at high solution pH.
