Cayley’s hyperdeterminant is a homogeneous polynomial of degree 4 in the 8 entries of a array. It is the simplest (nonconstant) polynomial which is invariant under changes of basis in three directions. We use elementary facts about representations of the 3-dimensional simple Lie algebra to reduce the problem of finding the invariant polynomials for a array to a combinatorial problem on the enumeration of arrays with non-negative integer entries. We then apply results from linear algebra to obtain a new proof that Cayley’s hyperdeterminant generates all the invariants. In the last section we discuss the application of our methods to general multidimensional arrays. 相似文献

We study a pure assemble-to-order system subject to multiple demand classes where customer orders arrive according to a compound Poisson process. The finished product is assembled from m different components that are produced on m distinct production facilities in a make-to-stock fashion. We show that the optimal production policy of each component is a state-dependent base-stock policy and the optimal inventory allocation policy is a multi-level state-dependent rationing policy. Using numerical experimentation, we first study the system behavior as a function of order size variability and order size. We show that the optimal average cost rate is more sensitive to order size variability than to order size. We also compare the optimal policy to the first-come first-serve policy and show that there is great benefit to inventory rationing. We also propose two simple heuristics and show that these can effectively mimic the optimal policy which is generally much more difficult to determine and, especially, to implement. 相似文献

In this article, the perimeter detection optimization problem in field surveillance and target tracking are discussed. The detection range of sensors is assumed to be circular or elliptical. Sensors are also assumed to be associated with a cost factor reflecting their operational characteristics and power usage. We show that the problem of optimal sensor selection can be reduced to a network flow problem and can then be solved using any existing classical methodology. This significantly reduces the computational time of sensory selection problem which in many cases needs to be solved in almost real time basis, every time that the dynamics of the field changes. A frequency-dependent beating pattern in the spectrogram of broadband signals transmitted during the approach of an internal wave packet to an acoustic propagating path is reported. An analytical expression relating the acoustic signal measurements and environmental parameters under certain conditions is obtained. In this letter, multiband acoustic communication is proposed to access a relatively wide frequency band. The entire frequency band is divided into multiple separated sub-bands, each of which is several kilohertz in width. Time reversal decision feedback equalizers are used to compensate for inter-symbol interference at each sub-band. The communication scheme was demonstrated in a shallow water acoustic experiment conducted in Kauai, Hawaii during the summer of 2011. Using quadrature phase-shift keying signaling at four sub-bands over the frequency band of 10-32 kHz, a data rate of 32 k bits/s was achieved over a 3 km communication range. 相似文献

Abstract
The coordination behaviour of a Schiff base with SNO donation sites, derived from condensation of 4-amino-5-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol and salicaldehyde, towards some bi- and trivalent metal ions, namely Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II) (Cl, ClO4), Ni(II) (Cl, ClO4), Cu(II), and Zn(II), is reported. The metal complexes were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, solid reflectance, magnetic moment, molar conductance, and thermal analyses (TG, DTG, and DTA). The ionization constant of the Schiff base under investigation and the stability constants of its metal chelates were calculated pH-metrically at 25 °C and ionic strength μ = 0.1 M in 50% (v/v) ethanol–water mixture. The chelates were found to have octahedral (Mn(II)), trigonal bipyramidal (Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II)), and tetrahedral (Cr(III), Fe(III), and Cu(II)) structures. The ligand and its binary chelates were subjected to thermal analyses and the different thermodynamic activation parameters were calculated from their corresponding DTG curves to throw more light on the nature of changes accompanying the thermal decomposition process of these compounds. The free Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes were tested in vitro against Aspergillus flavus, Candida albicans, C. tropicalis, and A. niger fungi and Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli bacteria in order to assess their antimicrobial potential. When coupled with the usual 2nd order thermo-mechanics equations, such problems require special treatment. In the past, the finite element method (FEM) has been successfully applied to non-conserved phase fields, governed by a 2nd order PDE. Three regularities have been introduced for liquids (T < TC and ρ > ρC) based on average potential energy. The experimental data have been used to show the validity of the regularities. First, there exists near-linearity relation between and ρ for all isotherms of a liquid, where Pi and ρ are internal pressure and density, respectively. Second, changes linearly with ρ for each isotherm of any liquid, where Z and Vm are compressibility factor and molar volume, respectively. Third, a new regularity using the definition of bulk modulus and our new equation of state between reduced bulk modulus and density has been introduced, that is versus ρ must be linear for all isotherms of a liquid where Br is the reduced bulk modulus.
A new equation of state has been also derived. The density of some liquids in the extensive ranges of temperature and pressure has been calculated using the new equation of state. The densities calculated from this equation agree with experiment to better than 0.3%. The new equation of state can predict internal pressure, thermal expansion coefficient, and isothermal compressibility of liquids within experimental error. 相似文献
