Keggin Heteropolyacid Catalyzed Synthesis of Isoxazolo[5,4-d]pyrimidine-4,6(5H,7H)-diones at Room Temperature

Isoxazolo[5,4‐d]pyrimidine‐4,6(5H,7H)diones 2a – 2f have been synthesized from the reaction of ethyl 5‐amino‐3‐methyl‐4‐isoxazole carboxylate ( 1 ) with aryl isocyanates in the presence of Keggin heteropolyacid H₃[PW₁₂O₄₀] as a green solid acid catalyst at room temperature in a one‐pot process in good yields.     

Multispectroscopic DNA interaction studies of a water-soluble nickel(II) complex containing different dinitrogen aromatic ligands

The water-soluble Ni(II) complex, [Ni(bipy)₂(phen-dione)](OAc)₂·2H₂O (bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine and phen-dione = 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione) has been synthesized and characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. The binding interactions of this complex with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) were investigated using fluorimetry, spectrophotometry, circular dichroism and viscosimetry. In fluorimetric studies, the enthalpy and entropy of the reaction between the complex and CT-DNA showed that the reaction is exothermic (ΔH = −123.9 kJ mol⁻¹; ΔS = −323.5 J mol⁻¹ K⁻¹). The competitive binding studies showed that the complex could not release methylene blue completely. The complex showed absorption hyperchromism in its UV–Vis spectrum with DNA. The calculated binding constant, K _b obtained from UV–Vis absorption studies was 2 × 10⁵ M⁻¹. Moreover, the complex induced detectable changes in the CD spectrum of CT-DNA, as well as changes in its viscosity. The results suggest that this nickel(II) complex interact with CT-DNA via a groove-binding mode.     

Synthesis and applications of cross-linked poly(diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride) and its derivative copolymers as efficient phase transfer catalyst for nucleophilic substitution reactions

Cross-linked poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) and its derivative copolymers were synthesized and used as phase transfer catalyst in the nucleophilic substitution reaction especially halogen exchange reactions. In addition, the effect of hydrophilic-hydrophobic character of the polymers in the nucleophilic reactions was investigated.     

Synthesis of Novel Isoindolo[2,1‐a]quinazolinedione Derivatives Containing a 1,2,3‐Triazole Ring System

A synthesis of isoindolo[2,1‐a]quinazolinedione derivatives, coupled with a 1,2,3‐triazole ring system, via the reaction of isatoic anhydride, HC?CCH₂NH₂, and 2‐formylbenzoic acid is described, which led to the formation of the isoindolo[2,1‐a]quinazoline‐5,11‐dione scaffold having a C?C bond that participated in a click reaction with various organic azides.     

Synthesis and Cytotoxic Evaluation of Novel 1,2,3‐Triazole‐4‐Linked (2E,6E)‐2‐Benzylidene‐6‐(4‐nitrobenzylidene)cyclohexanones

This work describes the synthesis of novel 1,2,3‐triazole‐4‐linked (2E,6E)‐2‐benzylidene‐6‐(4‐nitrobenzylidene)cyclo‐hexanones starting from cyclohexanone. 1‐(Cyclohex‐1‐en‐1‐yl)piperidine, the enamine from cyclohexanone and piperidine, reacted with 4‐nitrobenzaldehyde to obtain 2‐(4‐nitrobenzylidene)cyclohexanone. Condensation of the latter compound with (prop‐2‐yn‐1‐yloxy)benzaldehyde derivatives under acidic conditions gave (4‐nitrobenzylidene)‐[(prop‐2‐yn‐1‐yloxy)‐benzylidene]cyclohexanones. Finally, ‘click reaction’ of these derivatives and various organic azides led to the title compounds. All compounds were examined by MTT assay for cytotoxic activity in one human breast cancer cell line, MDA‐MB‐231.     

Tf2O as a rapid and efficient promoter for the dehydrative Friedel-Crafts acylation of aromatic compounds with carboxylic acids

The Friedel-Crafts acylation of aromatic compounds with carboxylic acids was investigated in the presence of Tf₂O. The reaction was carried out efficiently and very rapidly under mild reaction conditions without the need of any catalyst.     

HBPE-g-PVDF/PVDF blend nanofiltration membrane: preparation and characterization

Hyperbranched polyester-grafted poly(vinylidene fluoride) (HBPE-g-PVDF) was synthesized and used as additive in preparation of PVDF blend membranes. HBPE-g-PVDF copolymer was characterized with FTIR and TGA techniques. The prepared membranes were also characterized with SEM, AFM and contact angle measurement. The performance of prepared membranes as nanofiltration membrane was studied by pure water flux (PWF), salt rejection, dynamic and static fouling tests. The results showed that hydrophilicity of prepared membranes greatly increased after blending, and their pore size and pore size distribution and so PWF of blend membranes increased.

2-Imino 2<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-chromene and 2-(phenylimino) 2<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-chromene 3-aryl carboxamide derivatives as novel cytotoxic agents: synthesis,biological assay,and molecular docking study

The inhibition of AKR₁B₁₀ has been recognized as a potential therapeutic approach to the treatment of various types of cancers. A novel series of compounds with imino-2H-chromen and phenylimino-2H-chromen scaffolds were synthesized by Knoevenagel condensation reaction. The in vitro cytotoxic activity of synthesized compounds was evaluated against MOLT-4 and SK-OV-3 cells. Among the tested compounds, N-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-(phenylimino)-2H-chromene-3-carboxamide (8g) demonstrated potent inhibitory activity against both examined cell lines. The results of the molecular docking study suggested that this compound is involved in critical hydrogen-bonding interactions with the Val301 and Lue302 of AKR₁B₁₀ catalytic site.
