Cation thin-layer chromatography in mixed organic solvents containing s-butylamine: Separation of Zn(II) from Cd(II) and Cu(II)

Summary A TLC method has been developed for the separation of Zn(II) from Cd(II) and Cu(II) on silica gel alyers with mixed organic solvents containing s-butylamine. The separation of Zn(II) from Cd(II) in the presence of certain anions and at various pH values of sample solution was examined. A mixture containign s-butylamine, acetone and formic acid in 262 was found to be the best solvent.     

Unbounded symmetrysets

Unbounded symmetrysets R Z_pⁿ are introduced which, in the presence of a Jacobi condition, are classified and can be written as R = Z_p^n₁ + + Z_pⁿ_k (inner direct sum), where n_i n for all i = 1, , k. The properties of these unbounded symmetrysets are easily verified for the set R of roots of Witt Lie algebras. This paper is a step in the direction of classifying simple Lie algebras of characteristic, p, by studying their rootsystems.     

Rapid and Efficient Synthesis of Imidazolines and Bisimidazolines Under Microwave and Ultrasonic Irradiation

Small assemblies of 2-imidazolines and bisimidazolines from appropriate nitriles and ethylenediamine with catalytic amounts of P₂S₅ employing a microwave assisted protocol were prepared. Sonication of this system also led to successful synthesis of 2-imidazolines and bisimidazolines. Another advantage of these systems is the ability to carry out large scale reactions.     

In search of photon’s elementary axial magnetostatic field

 Experimental investigations of the photon’s B ⁽³⁾-field (third longitudinal polarization) are reported. The existence of an “axial magnetostatic field of photon” has been predicted in B _π or B ⁽³⁾-theory as the fundamental property of the circularly polarized light, and reported in numerous papers and monographs. High-sensitivity detection has been employed in photomagnetic induction, Faraday, and inverse Faraday effects (IFE) originating from such a field. The results of all three experiments clearly disprove the claims of B _π-theory. Putting together these results and theoretical calculations in perspective, it is concluded that such fields are non-existent. Received: 25 January 1996 / Revised version: 24 May 1996     

Silica sulfuric acid: an efficient and reusable catalyst for the one-pot synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones

Silica sulfuric acid efficiently catalyzes the three-component Biginelli reaction between an aldehyde, a β-dicarbonyl compound and urea or thiourea in refluxing ethanol to afford the corresponding dihydropyrimidinones in high yields. The catalyst is reusable and can be applied several times without any decrease in the yield of the reactions.     

Catalytic transfer reduction of conjugated alkenes and an imine using polymer-supported formates

An efficient and mild method for catalytic transfer hydrogenation of CC and CN double bonds with the aid of resin-supported formate (PSF) as the hydrogen donor and palladium acetate as the catalyst is reported.
