Screening and determination of drugs in human saliva utilizing microextraction by packed sorbent and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry

This study presents a new method for collecting and handling saliva samples using an automated analytical microsyringe and microextraction by packed syringe (MEPS). The screening and determination of lidocaine in human saliva samples utilizing MEPS and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC‐MS/MS) were carried out. An exact volume of saliva could be collected. The MEPS C₈‐cartridge could be used for 50 extractions before it was discarded. The extraction recovery was about 60%. The pharmacokinetic curve of lidocaine in saliva using MEPS‐LC‐MS/MS is reported. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The reaction of hexamethylphosphotriamide or methylphosphonic bis(dimethylamide) compounds with amidines derived from N-Benzimidazoyl imidates 1 leads to (1,2a)benzimidazolo-1,3,5,2-tiazaphosphorine-2-oxides 4 in good yields. If the condensation is realized at room temperature, N-phosphonic amidines 3 can be isolated as intermediates. The isolated compounds 2 , 3 , and 4 are identified by spectroscopic methods: IR, 1 H, 13 C, 31 P, NMR, and M.S.     

Chiral Chromium Salen@rGO as Multipurpose and Recyclable Heterogeneous Catalyst

The first immobilization of a pyrene-tagged chromium salen complex through π-π noncovalent interactions on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) is described. A very robust supported catalytic system is obtained to promote asymmetric catalysis in repeated cycles, without loss of activity or enantioselectivity. This specific behavior was demonstrated in two different catalytic reactions (up to ten reuses) promoted by chromium salen complexes, the cyclohexene oxide ring-opening reaction and the hetero-Diels-Alder cycloaddition between various aldehydes and Danishefsky's diene. Furthermore, the chiral chromium salen@rGO has been found to be compatible with a multi-substrate type use, in which the structure of the substrate involved is modified each time the catalyst is reused.     

Facile Synthesis and in Vitro Cytotoxic Evaluation of Novel Thiadiazole,Pyrazole, and Dithiole-Androstane Derivatives

In the aim of identifying new steroidal cytotoxic agents with potential antiproliferative activity against hepatoma cell lines (Hep-G₂), we synthesized modified steroids containing the thiadiazole, pyrazole, or dithiole moiety. Epiandrosterone 1 reacted with carbon disulfide and sodium hydride to furnish α-oxoketene dithio-disodium salt 2. Treatment of 2 with the hydrazonoyl halides 5a–d produced the thiadiazole anellated androstanone 7a–d, respectively. The reaction of 1 with hydrazine hydrate produced the hydrazide adduct 8, which cyclized upon reflux in acetic acid to form the condensed pyrazoloandrostanone derivative 9. Interaction of 8 with carbon disulfide and sodium hydride formed the disodium salt 10, which reacted with ethylchloroacetate to furnish the final adduct, dithioloandrostane derivative, 13. Compounds 7a, 7d, 9, and 13 were examined for their cytotoxicity against a panel of hepatoma cell lines (Hep-G₂) using MTT assay. The results provide that, at incubation time 72 h, in DMSO, compound 7d (50 μ mol/mL) showed the most significant cytotoxic effect at P < 0.05. The higher dose (100 μ mol/mL) of compound 7d, at 48 h incubation, reversed the effect causing resistance and the growth rate return to the control level.

Two stage electrostatic separator for the recycling of plastics from waste electrical and electronic equipment

The aim of study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a new facility for recycling of plastics from granular waste electrical and electronic equipment. The installation consists of two sections, the products of a first tribo-aero-electrostatic separator being subsequently treated in two free-fall electrostatic separators. The tests were performed on a mixture of polycarbonate (PC) and polyamide (PA). Analysis of the purity of the products obtained was performed using a program of image processing in MATLAB. Products of very high purity (roughly 95% for both PC and PA) were obtained at a recovery rate higher than 70%.     

Spectrophotometric Determination of Piperazine,Piperazine Salts and Diethylcarbamazine Citrate with Chloranilic Acid

Abstract

A rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric method is developed for the quantitative determination of piperazine, piperazine salts and diethylcarbamazine citrate. The method is based on the formation of donor-acceptor complexes between the compound and chloranilic acid. The interaction product has a characteristic absorption maximum at about 345 nm. The system obeys Beer's law in the concentration range of 1–10 ugml^?1 of piperazine hexahydrate, adipate, phosphate, citrate and diethylcarbamazine citrate. The effects of several experimantal variables have been studied and the stoichiometric composition of the complex has been determined. The developed procedure has been found to be simple, rapid and precise and its application to various dosage forms was demonstrated and yields results comparable with the standard method.
