Determination of antihypertensive mixtures by use of a chemometrics-assisted spectrophotometric method

A simple multivariate calibration method for analysis of two types of hypotensive mixture is described. The mixtures are composed of chlorthalidone with atenolol or chlorthalidone with both amiloride hydrochloride and atenolol. The components of the mixtures result in substantial spectral overlap—between 87.5 and 91.0%. Resolution of the mixtures under investigation has been accomplished mainly by using CLS and PCR methods. The components in each mixture have been simultaneously determined in three commercial dosage forms with high accuracy and without interference from commonly encountered excipients and additives. Good recoveries were obtained with both synthetic mixtures and commercial tablets. The results obtained were compared with those from pharmacopeial methods and found to be in good agreement. The results obtained from CLS and PCR were also compared with those obtained from a ¹D spectrophotometric method.

Ladas, Global Behavior of Nonlinear Difference Equations of High Order with Applications, Kluwer Academic, Dordrecht, 1993]. We also give the closed form solution to the equations studied by X. Li and D. Zhu [X. Li, D. Zhu, Two rational recursive sequences, Comput. Math. Appl. 47 (2004) 1487–1494].     

On a functional equation generalizing the class of semistable distributions

With ?(p),p≥0 the Laplace-Stieltjes transform of some infinitely divisible probability distribution, we consider the solutions to the functional equation ?(p-e ^?pβΠ _i=1 ^m ?^γi (c _i p) for somem≥1,c _i>0, γ _i >0,i=1., …,m, β ε ®. We supply its complete solutions in terms of semistable distributions (the ones obtained whenm=1). We then show how to obtain these solutions as limit laws (r → ∞) of normalized Poisson sums of iid samples when the Poisson intensity λ(r) grows geometrically withr.     

Binary,ternary and quaternary complexes invloved in the systems pyridoxamine-glycine-imidazole with some bivalent metal ions

Equilibrium-based computer models using MINIQUAD-75 program were utilized to determine the stoichiometry and formation constants involved in the systems pyridoxamine(Pm)-glycine (Gly)-imidazole (lmd) with CO(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) metal ions. The data were obtained from potentiometric pH titration of the various binary and ternary quaternary systems under physiological-like conditions (0.15 M NaNO₃-37°C). Various composition ratios of metal and ligands were used. The ligand concentrations did not exceed 4 times the concentration of metal ion in the binary systems and 4 times of the metal ions in ternary systems. In case of the quaternary systems only imidazole concentrations were two or four times the concentrations of metal ions keeping those of other ligands equal to that of metal ions. The stability constants of the quaternary species are discussed in terms of binary and ternary constants as are the effect of ring size on the stability of mixed ligand species. In addition, electrostatic as well as statistical effects also are mentioned and the biological implications of these model equilibria are described.

The Madelung constant, the electrostatic and repulsive energies of the compounds MAX, with the PbFCI structure (D⁷_4h), are calculated and compared with the experimental cohesive energy. This calculation yields a crude estimate of the Van der Waals energy. The special case of CaHBr is discussed.     

Spectrophotometric determination of epinephrine and norepinephrine with sodium periodate

A simple and accurate spectrophotometric method is described for the determination of epinephrine (EP), norepinephrine (NE) and their bitartrate salts. The method is based on the development of a red colour (lambda(max) 490 nm) with sodium periodate in aqueous alcoholic medium. The colour is stable for at least 1 hr. The molar reacting ratio of EP or NE to periodate is 1:2. The proposed method is particularly suitable for routine analysis of EP and NE injections. The interference due to the sodium metabisulphite normally used as antioxidant can be overcome by addition of acetone. Results for analysis of bulk drugs and injections agree well with those of official methods.     

Inhibition and anti-inhibition effects of electron scavengers in hydrocarbons revisited

Positronium formation experiments inn-hexane were performed with C₂H₅Br and CCl₄ as inhibitors and others (decalin, tetralin, benzene, naphthalene, phenanthrene) as anti-inhibitors. Although the results can be interpreted in terms of the anti-recombination and anti-inhibition, it is necessary to consider further some new aspects of intra-spur reactions such as shallow tapping of e⁺ and secondary reactions of Ps. The data thus interpreted correlate excellently with the data of radiation chemistry.     

Structural, optical and dielectric properties of glass-nanocomposite

Transparent glass-nanocomposite sample [50Li₂B₄O₇-50(SrO-Bi₂O₃-Nb₂O₅)] (mol %) was prepared by a conventional melt-quenching technique. Fluorite (Bi₃NbO₇) and SrBi₂Nb₂O₉ (SBN) was produced by heat-treating the as-prepared sample at 773 K for 6 h (HT773). The nanocrystallites of fluorite and SBN phases in the Li₂B₄O₇ glass matrix were established by differential thermal analysis (DTA) which is confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopic (TEM) studies. The influence of heat-treating the as-prepared sample on the optical properties (transmission, optical band gap and Urbach energy) has been investigated. Properties such as dielectric constant and dielectric loss as a function of frequency (120 Hz -100 k Hz) and temperature (300-829 K) are reported.     

Solvent free synthesis of 1,3-diaryl-2-propenones catalyzed by commercial acid-clays under ultrasound irradiation

This paper presents a novel solvent free method of synthesis of trans-chalcones. The method was based on ultrasound irradiation of the reagents (aryl methyl ketones and aryl aldehydes) in presence of commercial acid-montmorillonites as catalysts. The trans-chalcones were synthesized in high yields (85–95%) and excellent selectivity in a short reaction time.
