Living radical polymerization methods that allow the preparation of polymers with predetermined molecular weight, narrow molecular weight distribution and tailored architecture (e.g. block, graft, stars) are offering a vast range of new and advanced materials. With applications ranging from surfactants, dispersants, coatings and adhesives, to microelectronics, membranes, drug delivery, and biomaterials they have the potential of revolutionizing a large part of the polymer industry.  相似文献

A method is developed for simplifying molecular interpretations of nonlinear optical phenomena. General sum-over-states expressions derived from perturbation theory can be written identically and self-consistently as simple products of lower-order effects. Electric dipole-allowed expressions for the nonlinear polarizability reduce to straightforward formulas directly connected to intuitive molecular properties without sacrificing mathematical rigor. This approach is sufficiently general to allow its application in treating electronic, vibrational, and vibronic interactions for both parametric (passive) processes (e.g., wave-mixing spectroscopies, sum- and difference-frequency generation, harmonic generation, etc.) and nonparametric (active) processes (e.g., hyper-Raman spectroscopy, multiphoton absorption, etc.). Explicit examples for sum-frequency generation and for four-wave mixing provide a convenient context for interpreting higher order nonlinear optical processes.  相似文献

Background

This study examined the effects of dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) as different n-6: n-3 ratios on spatial learning and gene expression of peroxisome- proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) in the hippocampus of rats. Thirty male Sprague?CDawley rats were randomly allotted into 3 groups of ten animals each and received experimental diets with different n-6: n-3 PUFA ratios of either 65:1, 22:1 or 4.5:1. After 10?weeks, the spatial memory of the animals was assessed using the Morris Water Maze test. The expression of PPAR?? and PPAR?? genes were determined using real-time PCR.

Results

Decreasing dietary n-6: n-3 PUFA ratios improved the cognitive performance of animals in the Morris water maze test along with the upregulation of PPAR?? and PPAR?? gene expression. The animals with the lowest dietary n-6: n-3 PUFA ratio presented the highest spatial learning improvement and PPAR gene expression.

Conclusion

It can be concluded that modulation of n-6: n-3 PUFA ratios in the diet may lead to increased hippocampal PPAR gene expression and consequently improved spatial learning and memory in rats.  相似文献

The removal of thiocarbonylthio end groups by radical‐addition‐fragmentation‐ coupling from polymers synthesized by RAFT polymerization has been studied. We found that a method, which involves heating the polymer with a large excess (20 molar equivalents) of azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN), while successful with methacrylic polymers, is less effective with styrenic or acrylic polymers and provides only partial end group removal. This is attributed to the propagating radicals generated from the latter polymers being poor radical leaving groups relative to the cyanoisopropyl radical. Similar use of lauroyl peroxide (LPO) completely removes the thiocarbonylthio groups from styrenic or acrylic polymers but, even with LPO in large excess, produces a polymer with a bimodal molecular weight distribution. The formation of a peak of double molecular weight is indicative of the occurrence of self‐termination and ineffective radical trapping. We now report that by use of a combination of LPO (2 molar equivalents) and AIBN (20 molar equivalents) we are able to completely remove thiocarbonylthio end groups of styrenic or acrylic polymers and minimize the occurrence of self termination. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A general approach, based on the polymer reference interaction site model (PRISM) integral equation theory, suitable for characterizing arbitrarily complex polyolefin melts is described. We tested the method by calculating the melt structures of linear polyethylene (PE) and isotactic polypropylene (iPP) and the spinodal decomposition temperatures for PE/iPP blends. The computational expense of the PRISM calculation was reduced with a single‐site united atom model in which the polyolefin CH, CH2, and CH3 groups were approximated as chemically equivalent sites with spherically symmetric energetic interactions. The site–site interactions were defined by a potential function comprising a hard core with an attractive Lennard–Jones term. These energetic parameters were optimized with a central composite design strategy that enabled a simultaneous fit of experimental melt density and structure factor data. Values were obtained for PE and iPP individually and for common universal parameters that could potentially be used for all polyolefins. The rotational isomeric state–metropolis Monte Carlo (RMMC) technique was used to generate sets of conformers at specified temperatures covering the melt‐temperature range of the polymers. The characteristic ratio was used to assess the quality of the conformers and the RMMC method. Values of 9.68 for PE and 9.27 for iPP were obtained. The single‐chain structure factors calculated by the RMMC method were used to calculate the total structure factor for each melt. We report on first measurements with polarized electrons stored in a medium-energy ring and with a polarized internal target. Polarized electrons were injected at 442 MeV (653 MeV), and a partial (full) Siberian snake was employed to preserve the polarization. Longitudinal polarization at the interaction point and polarization lifetime of the stored electrons were determined with laser backscattering. Spin observables were measured for electrodisintegration of polarized 3He, with simultaneous detection of scattered electrons, protons, neutrons, deuterons, and 3He nuclei, over a large phase space.  相似文献
