We present small-angle neutron scattering data proving that, on the insulating side of the metal-insulator transition, the doped perovskite cobaltite La(1-x)Sr(x)CoO(3) phase separates into ferromagnetic metallic clusters embedded in a nonferromagnetic matrix. This induces a hysteretic magnetoresistance, with temperature and field dependence characteristic of intergranular giant magnetoresistance (GMR). We argue that this system is a natural analog to the artificial structures fabricated by depositing nanoscale ferromagnetic particles in a metallic or insulating matrix; i.e., this material displays a GMR effect without the deliberate introduction of chemical interfaces.  相似文献

We present the first observation of spatiospectral control and localization of supercontinuum light through the nonlinear interaction of spectral components in extended periodic structures. We use an array of optical waveguides in a LiNbO3 crystal and employ the interplay between diffraction and nonlinearity to dynamically control the output spectrum of the supercontinuum radiation. This effect presents an efficient scheme for optically tunable spectral filtering of supercontinua.  相似文献

A particle population balance model was developed to predict the oxidation characteristics of an ensemble of char particles exposed to an environment in which their overall burning rates are controlled by the combined effects of oxygen diffusion through particle pores and chemical reactions (the zone II burning regime). The model allows for changes in particle size due to burning at the external surface, changes in particle apparent density due to internal burning at pore walls, and changes in the sizes and apparent densities of particles due to percolation type fragmentation. In percolation type fragmentation, fragments of all sizes less than that of the fragmenting particle are produced. The model follows the conversion of particles burning in a gaseous environment of specified temperature and oxygen content. The extent of conversion and particle size, apparent density, and temperature distributions are predicted in time.Experiments were performed in an entrained flow reactor to obtain the size and apparent density data needed to adjust model parameters. Pulverized Wyodak coal particles were injected into the reactor and char samples were extracted at selected residence times. The particle size distributions and apparent densities were measured for each sample extracted. The intrinsic chemical reactivity of the char to oxygen was also measured in experiments performed in a thermogravimetric analyzer. Data were used to adjust rate coefficients in a six-step reaction mechanism used to describe the oxidation process.Calculations made allowing for fragmentation with variations in the apparent densities of fragments yield the type of size, apparent density, and temperature distributions observed experimentally. These distributions broaden with increased char conversion in a manner that can only be predicted when fragmentation is accounted for with variations in fragment apparent density as well as size. The model also yields the type of ash size distributions observed experimentally.  相似文献

A novel multichannel vector sum phase shifter that is suitable for phased array antenna applications is demonstrated. Each channel is implemented using a distinct optical wavelength. Selective control of each channel is performed using an acousto-optic polarization coupler. The concept is successfully demonstrated for two individually controlled channels. For each channel, a continuously variable frequency linear phase shift is demonstrated between DC and 7 GHz, with the phasing range exceeding 100 degrees.  相似文献

The grand canonical version of the spectrum of singularities formalism is presented, relying naturally upon certain Markov transition graphs. The structure of a graph is simply determined by the close return times of the dynamical system described. A full investigation of the possible homonuclear double-quantum recoupling sequences, based on the RN family of sequences with N < or = 20, is given. Several new RN sequences, R16(6)(5), R18(8)(5), and R18(10)(5), were applied at high magic-angle spinning rates and compared with theory. The R18(10)(5) technique can be used to recouple dipolar couplings at spinning rates up to 39 kHz, and the application of the sequence in an INADEQUATE experiment is shown for a spinning rate of 30 kHz.  相似文献

Parity violation effects have been studied at 40 neutron p-wave resonances of the even-even nuclei238U and232Th. Of these 11 show parity violation effects larger than 2 standard deviations, making parity violation a rather common phenomenon. Parity mixing up to 10% has been found. The root-mean squared matrix elements for parity violation derived from these resonances are M=0.58 (+0.50/-0.25) meV for238U, respectively 1.39 (+0.35/-0.38) meV for232Th.  相似文献
