A novel [60]fullerene receptor with a Pd(II)-switched bisporphyrin cleft

Porphyrin dimer 1, which does not have an inside cavity and cannot interact with [60]fullerene (C60), becomes an excellent C60-acceptor with a large cavity in the presence of a Pd(II) complex.     

Discontinuous pressure effect upon enantiodifferentiating photosensitized isomerization of cyclooctene

A hydrostatic pressure of up to 750 MPa induced discontinuous changes in the enantiomeric excess of the (E)-isomer obtained in the enantio-differentiating photoisomerization of (Z)-cyclooctene and (Z,Z)-cycloocta-1,5-diene, sensitized by chiral benzene-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylates; indicating a switching of the enantio-differentiation mechanism, which is attributable to dramatic conformational changes of chiral alkoxycarbonyl auxiliaries at a specific pressure.     

Evolution of lower-hybrid-driven current during the formation of an internal transport barrier

Evolution of the lower-hybrid(LH)-driven current profile was measured during the formation of an internal transport barrier (ITB) in a reversed magnetic shear discharge. As the ITB developed, the initially centrally peaked LH-driven current profile gradually turned hollow and was sometimes accompanied by an off-axis peak in the electron temperature profile. These observations indicate the concentration of LH power deposition to the ITB for this case as a result of nonlinear coupling between the LH waves and the target plasma.     

The higher order Hamiltonian structures for the modified classical Yang-Baxter equation

We consider constructing the higher order Hamiltonian structures on the dual of the Lie algebra from the first Hamiltonian structure of the coadjoint orbit method. For this purpose we show that the structure of the Lie algebrag is inherited to the algebra of vector fields ong ^* through the solution of the Modified Classical Yang-Baxter equation (Classicalr matrix). We study the algebra that generates the compatible Poisson brackets.This work was supported by Grant Aid for Scientific Research, the Ministry of Education.     

Light emission from Si nanocrystals embedded in CaF2 epilayers on Si(1 1 1): Effect of rapid thermal annealing

Visible photoluminescence (PL) of nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si) embedded in single crystal CaF₂ formed on Si(1 1 1) has been studied and the influence of ex situ rapid thermal annealing (RTA) on the surface morphology and PL spectra has been studied. It has been found that the PL intensity and uniformity was improved by RTA with appropriate temperature and short annealing time.     

Disappearance of the heat capacity peak of Sc3In around the curie temperature in high magnetic fields

The low temperature (1.3–20.0 K) heat capacity of the weak itinerant electron ferromagnet Sc₃In was measured in magnetic fields up to ～ 10 T. The heat capacity peak observed around T_c = 6.0 K in zero field becomes smaller with increasing fields and at 9.98 T its magnetic entropy is ≈ 18% of the zero field value. Above T_c, the spin fluctuation contribution to the heat capacity, which is enhanced by the magnetic field at lower fields (?5 T), is quenched at higher fields (?5 T). This depression of the spin fluctuation contibution to the heat capacity by the high magnetic fields occurs at lower magnetic fields than had been considered possible heretofore. Our results suggest that the itinerant ferromagnetism is Sc₃In is completely quenched at 12 T.     

New synthetic method for orsellic acid type macrolides by intramolecular alkylation of protected cyanohydrin. The synthesis of (±)-zearalenone.

Zearalenone was synthesized by a general cyclization method of orsellic acid type macrolides having ketone moiety using the intramolecular alkylation of the protected cyanohydrin. This alkylation tolerates the presence of ester group and requires short reaction time.     

Another approach to localized magnetic moments in the Hubbard model

By using the band part of the Hubbard Hamiltonian as our starting point, we find that for one electron/atom, with Coulomb repulsion U and bandwidth Δ, there is a single band with sharp Fermi surface and enhanced Pauli paramagnetism for U < Δ, and a splitting into two symmetric bands with local moment formation for U > Δ.
