A convenient synthesis of 1-bromoolefins and acetylenes by a chain extension of aldehydes

Aldehydes are easily converted to 1-bromoolefins or terminal acetylenes by the use of Wittig reaction of bromomethylenetriphenylphosphorane which is prepared from bromomethyltriphenylphosphonium bromide with potassium tert-butoxide.     

Solid-phase synthesis of liquid crystalline isoxazole library

Combinatorial library of isoxazoles was prepared by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition on solid support. p-Cyano derivatives showed nematic and/or smectic A phases. A bilayer smectic phase for 2h is proposed by the combination of molecular mechanics calculation and X-ray diffraction experiment.     

The glass-to-liquid transition of the emulsified high-density amorphous ice made by pressure-induced amorphization

Emulsified high-density amorphous ice, made by pressure-induced amorphization of emulsified ice Ih, was decompressed at about 160 K. The onset of an endothermic event was observed around 0.4 GPa during the decompression. This is consistent with existence of the glass transition to a liquid state, implying the close relationship between melting and amorphization.     

A lithiation approach to cordycepin analogues variously substituted at the C-8 position

Several 8-substituted cordycepins were prepared via LDA lithiation of 2′,5′-bis-O-(t-butyldimethylsilyl)-cordycepin and successive reactions of its C-8 lithiated species with various types of electrophiles. Wittig reaction of the 8-formyl derivative was also examined.     

Computer simulation for the cooligomerization system

In order to clarify the kinetic features of the styrene (A)–methyl methacrylate (B)–CCl₄(S) cooligomerization system, a computer simulation was carried out. The experimental data on the degree of polymerization and the deviation of the cooligomer composition from the statistical steady-state composition were comparatively well explained by calculations based on the kinetic equations derived from the assumed reaction scheme and the values of the velocity coefficients, although the values of the four velocity coefficients in the initiation step and the velocity coefficient of the termination by the coupling of two solvent radicals were estimated. The results of the calculation of the rate of each component reaction show that the following two reactions are the most important in the initiation and in the transfer and termination steps when the [S]/([A] + [B]) ratio is large: where, A, A*, and P are styrene, polystyryl radical, and the cooligomer, respectively. Moreover, it was concluded that the deviation of the cooligomer composition from the statistical steady-state composition was caused by these two reactions.     

Comparison of PAMAM-Au and PPI-Au nanocomposites and their catalytic activity for reduction of 4-nitrophenol

Dendrimer-Au nanocomposites are prepared in aqueous solutions using poly(amidoammine)dendrimers (PAMAM) (generation 2, 3, and 5) and poly(propyleneimine)dendrimers (PPI)(generation 2, 3, and 4) by wet chemical NaBH(4) method. The Au nanoparticles thus obtained are 2-4 nm in diameter for both dendrimers and no generation dependence on the particle size is observed, whereas the generations of the dendrimers are increased as stabilization of Au-nanoparticles is achieved with lower dendrimer concentrations. Studies of the reduction reaction of 4-nitrophenol using these nanocomposites show that the rate constants for the PAMAM dendrimers (generations 2 and 3) are higher than those for the PPI dendrimers (generations 2 and 3), while a distinct difference in the rate constants is not seen for the PAMAM dendrimer (generation 5) or the PPI dendrimer (generation 4). In addition, the rate constants for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol involving all the dendrimers decrease with increases in dendrimer concentrations.     

Ring transformation of 6H-cyclopropa[e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine. IV (1). Reduction and reaction of 5a-acetyl-6a-ethoxycarbonyl-5a,6a-dihydro-6H-cyclopropa[e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3-carbonitriles with primary amines

The reaction of 5a-acetyl-6-ethoxycarbonyl-5a,6a-dihydro-6H-cyclopropa[e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3-carbonitrile ( 1a ) with benzylamine gave ethyl l-benzyl-5-cyano-8a,9-dihydro-2-methyl-1H-pyrrolo[3,4-e]-pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-8a-carboxylate ( 2a ), in addition to 5-acetyl-3-benzylamino-1-(4-cyanopyrazol-3-yl)- 2-pyridone ( 3 ). Reaction of 1a with aniline gave ethyl 6-acetyl-8-anilino-3-cyano-7,8-dihydro-4H-pyrazolo-[1,5-a][1,3]diazepine-8-carboxylate ( 4 ), in addition to ethyl 3-cyano-7-methyl-6-pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-acrylate ( 5 ). On the other hand, the same reactions of 1b with benzylamine or aniline gave 2b or 8b , respectively. Though catalytic hydrogenation of 1a over 5% palladium-carbon proceeded by ring fission of cyclopropane ring to give 9 , 1a (or 1b ) afforded 4,5-dihydro derivatives ( 13 or 15 ) by catalytic hydrogenation over platinum oxide. The reactivity of 5-methoxy-4,5,5a,6a-tetrahydro-6H-cyclopropa[e]pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine ( 16 ), which are related analogs of 1a,b , is also described.     

Synthesis and central nervous system stimulant activity of 5,8-methanoquinazolines fused with imidazole,thiadiazole, pyrimidine and 1,3,5-triazine

5,8-Methanoquinazolines fused with imidazoles 4a-4b , thiadiazoles 5–6 , pyrimidines 7, 9, 11 and 12 , and 1,3,5-triazine 13 were prepared starting from (5R,8S)-2-amino-8,9,9-trimethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-5,8-methanoquinazoline 3 . Most compounds possessed central nervous system stimulant activities.     

Kinetic study of the electron-transfer oxidation of the phenolate anion of a vitamin E model by molecular oxygen generating superoxide anion in an aprotic medium

Electron-transfer reduction of molecular oxygen (O2) by the phenolate anion (1-) of a vitamin E model, 2,2,5,7,8-pentamethylchroman-6-ol (1H), occurred to produce superoxide anion, which could be directly detected by a low-temperature EPR measurement. The rate of electron transfer from 1- to O2 was relatively slow, since this process is energetically unfavourable. The one-electron oxidation potential of 1- determined by cyclic voltammetric measurements is sufficiently negative to reduce 2,2-bis(4-tert-octylphenyl)-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DOPPH*) to the corresponding one-electron reduced anion, DOPPH-, suggesting that 1- can also act as an efficient radical scavenger.
