Cyclic peptides with disc-shaped structures have emerged as potent building blocks for the preparation of new biomaterials in fields ranging from biological to material science. In this work, we analyze in depth the self-assembling properties of a new type of cyclic peptides based on the alternation of α-residues and cyclic δ-amino acids (α,δ-CPs). To examine the preferred stacking properties adopted by cyclic peptides bearing this type of amino acids, we carried out a synergistic in vitro/in silico approximation by using simple dimeric models and then extended to nanotubes. Although these new cyclic peptides (α,δ-CPs) can interact either in a parallel or antiparallel fashion, our results confirm that although the parallel β-sheet is more stable, it can be switched to the antiparallel stacking by choosing residues that can establish favorable cross-strand interactions. Moreover, the subsequent comparison by using the same methodology but applied to α,γ-CPs models, up to the moment assumed as antiparallel-like d,l -α-CPs, led to unforeseen conclusions that put into question preliminary conjectures about these systems. Surprisingly, they tend to adopt a parallel β-sheet directed by the skeleton interactions. AbstractThe objective of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial effect of Agave fructans against the Salmonella Typhimurium in “in vitro” experiments. The result of the antimicrobial activity was 263.89?±?0, 414.95?±?12.83, 494.54?±?13.88, 522.29?±?0, 580.41?±?14.92?AU for 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% of Agave fructans (AF) respectively. In addition, there is a significant effect on the growth of the bacteria with all the percentages of AF evaluated (p?<?0.001, R2?=?0.859) with respect to the control. The growth rate of Salmonella with 25% AF was statistically significant compared to the control (?0.7353?±?0.586, 0.0079?±?0.002?D.O./h, respectively; p?>?0.01). The degree of circular polarization ( Weierstrass p ) of the nonlinear emission in semiconductor microcavities is controlled by changing the exciton-cavity detuning. The polariton relaxation towards K approximately 0 cavitylike states is governed by final-state stimulated scattering. The helicity of the emission is selected due to the lifting of the degeneracy of the +/-1 spin levels at K approximately 0. We use an extension of the static-exchange density functional theory (DFT) method, previously reported in [E. Plésiat et al., Phys. Rev. A 2, 023409 (2012), E. Plésiat, P. Decleva, F. Martín, Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys. 31, 10853 (2012)], to evaluate vibrationally resolved (total and angular) K-shell photoelectron cross sections of methane. The calculated cross sections are in very good agreement with the existing experimental measurements at low photoelectron energies. We show that, in contrast with the rich interference patterns previously observed in molecular frame C(1s) photoelectron angular distributions of methane at both low and high photoelectron energy, no interference effects are observed in the calculated β parameters, even at high photon energies. 相似文献

Extremely large group velocity dispersion of both signs can be achieved at the band edges of guided modes in photonic crystal waveguides. The selection of a proper value and sign of this parameter allows the design of short-length waveguides to compensate for pulse broadening. This pulse broadening can be caused, for instance, when a photonic crystal delay line is introduced. We present a theoretical study of the possibilities of using photonic crystal waveguides as intra-circuital dispersion compensation elements for ultrashort pulses, so the width of a transmitted pulse can be reduced. However, we also demonstrate that recovering the original pulse shape is not possible for these large-bandwidth pulses due to higher-order dispersion terms. 相似文献

In this work we investigate possible ferromagnetic order on the graphite surface by using magnetic force microscopy (MFM). Our data show that the tip-sample interaction along the steps is independent of an external magnetic field. Moreover, by combining kelvin probe force microscopy and MFM, we are able to separate the electrostatic and magnetic interactions along the steps obtaining an upper bound for the magnetic force gradient of 16 μN/m. On the basis of the irradiance-moment formalism for describing general partially coherent beams, we investigate the relation between the spatial orientation of the transverse beam profile upon propagation and the asymmetrical part of its orbital angular momentum (OAM). More specifically, a necessary and sufficient condition (one-to-one correspondence) is shown between freely propagating non-rotating beams and vanishing asymmetrical OAM. As a corollary, it is obtained that any beam emerging from optical systems that transform a rotating field into a non-rotating beam exhibits vortex OAM only. 相似文献
