Porphyrin–fullerene dyads are promising candidates for organic photovoltaic devices. The electron-transfer (ET) properties of the molecular devices depend significantly on the mutual position of the donor and acceptor. Recently, a new type of molecular isomerism (akamptisomerism) has been discovered. In the present study, we explore how photoinduced ET can be modulated by passing from one akamptisomer to another. To this aim, four akamptisomers of the quinoxalinoporphyrin–[60]fullerene complex are selected for computational study. The most striking finding is that, depending on the isomer, the porphyrin unit in the dyad can act as either electron donor or electron acceptor. Thus, the stereoisomeric diversity allows one to change the direction of ET between the porphyrin and fullerene moieties. To understand the effect of akamptisomerism on the photoinduced ET processes, a detailed analysis of initial and final states involved in the ET is performed. The computed rate for charge separation is estimated to be in the region of 1–10 ns−1. The formation of a long-living quinoxalinoporphyrin anion radical species is predicted. 相似文献

Using a photoemission spectroscometer that operates close to ambient conditions of pressure and temperature we have determined the Pd-O phase diagram and the kinetic parameters of phase transformations. We found that on the (111) surface oxidation proceeds by formation of stable and metastable structures. As the chemical potential of O2 increases chemisorbed oxygen forms followed by a thin surface oxide. Bulk oxidation is a two-step process that starts with the metastable growth of the surface oxide into the bulk, followed by a first-order transformation to PdO. 相似文献

The local aromaticity of the six-membered rings in three series of benzenoid compounds, namely, the [n]acenes, [n]phenacenes, and [n]helicenes for n = 1-9, has been assessed by means of three probes of local aromaticity based on structural, magnetic, and electron delocalization properties. For [n]acenes our analysis shows that the more reactive inner rings are more aromatic than the outer rings. For [n]phenacenes, all indicators of aromaticity show that the external rings are the most aromatic. From the external to the central ring, the local aromaticity varies in a damped alternate way. The trends for the [n]helicene series are the same as those found for [n]phenacenes. Despite the departure from planarity in [n]helicenes, only a very slight loss of aromaticity is detected in [n]helicenes as compared to the corresponding [n]phenacenes. Finally, because of magnetic couplings between superimposed six-membered rings in the higher members of the [n]helicenes series, we have demonstrated that the NICS indicator of aromaticity artificially increases the local aromaticity of their most external rings. 相似文献

We have computed a state-of-the-art benchmark potential energy surface (PES) for the archetypal oxidative addition of the ethane C-C bond to the palladium atom and have used this to evaluate the performance of 24 popular density functionals, covering LDA, GGA, meta-GGA, and hybrid density functionals, for describing this reaction. The ab initio benchmark is obtained by exploring the PES using a hierarchical series of ab initio methods [HF, MP2, CCSD, CCSD(T)] in combination with a hierarchical series of five Gaussian-type basis sets, up to g polarization. Relativistic effects are taken into account either through a relativistic effective core potential for palladium or through a full four-component all-electron approach. Our best estimate of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters is -10.8 (-11.3) kcal/mol for the formation of the reactant complex, 19.4 (17.1) kcal/mol for the activation energy relative to the separate reactants, and -4.5 (-6.8) kcal/mol for the reaction energy (zero-point vibrational energy-corrected values in parentheses). Our work highlights the importance of sufficient higher angular momentum polarization functions for correctly describing metal-d-electron correlation. Best overall agreement with our ab initio benchmark is obtained by functionals from all three categories, GGA, meta-GGA, and hybrid DFT, with mean absolute errors of 1.5 to 2.5 kcal/mol and errors in activation energies ranging from -0.2 to -3.2 kcal/mol. Interestingly, the well-known BLYP functional compares very reasonably with a slight underestimation of the overall barrier by -0.9 kcal/mol. For comparison, with B3LYP we arrive at an overestimation of the overall barrier by 5.8 kcal/mol. On the other hand, B3LYP performs excellently for the central barrier (i.e., relative to the reactant complex) which it underestimates by only -0.1 kcal/mol. 相似文献

The structural and mechanical properties of Langmuir-Blodgett monolayer and multilayer films of 3",4"-didecyl-5,2'; 5',2"; 5",2'; 5',2"; 5",2''; 5'',2"-heptathiophene-4'-acetic acid on mica have been studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM) as a function of humidity, temperature, and applied force. The molecules orient with the carboxylic acid group pointing toward the mica surface and expose the alkyl side chains to the air interface. As the load applied by the AFM tip increases, the film is compressed easily from an initial height of 2 to 1.2 nm. After compression the films can support much higher loads without loss of height. The state of aggregation of the molecules was found to be sensitive to the environmental humidity, which induced reversible changes. Annealing the samples with monolayer or multilayer films resulted in irreversible changes when the temperature exceeded approximately 100 degrees C. 相似文献

The stereochemical course of the deamination of cis‐2,3‐dimethylaziridine by nitrosyl chloride was investigated at the QCISD/6‐31G(d) level. Calculations reveal that the reaction takes place in two steps. In the first step, the reactants form a pre‐reactive complex, followed by a spiro‐type bicyclic transition state, which on dissociative cycloelimination gives the N‐nitrosoaziridine intermediate. In the second step, this intermediate undergoes cycloreversion through a slightly asynchronous concerted transition state to form an alkene with the same stereochemistry, which is in total agreement with experiment. In the whole reaction, the denitrosation step is found to be rate‐determining. For comparison, geometry optimizations and energies were also obtained at the B3LYP/6‐31G(d) level. It was found that the B3LYP energy results differed significantly from the QCISD ones. To analyze the reason for this difference, B3LYP calculations were repeated by varying the contribution of exact exchange in the Becke functional. With respect to the QCISD results, it has been shown that the functional with 0% exact exchange yields the best activation barriers, whereas the functional with 30% exact exchange is the most suitable one to carry out the complexation and reaction energy calculations. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The conformation of several -2,3-diaryloxy-1,4-dioxanes has been studied using 1H NMR techniques. -2,3-bis(4-nitrophenoxy)-1,4-dioxane and -2,3-bis(4-methoxyphenoxy)-1,4-dioxane have been found to be predominantly ( ≈98%) in diaxial conformation in CDCl3). On the other hand, -2,3-bis(2,6-dimethylphenoxy)-1,4-dioxane exists in the same conditions as a 66:33 mixture of diaxial and diequatorial conformers. An explanation based on the fulfilment of the exo-anomeric effect is provided. 相似文献

Proper normalization of two previously published indices yields aromaticity measures that, when computed within the Hückel molecular orbital (HMO) approximation, closely match the topological resonance energies per pi electron of aromatic annulenes and their ions. The normalized indices, which quantify aromaticity of individual rings in polycyclic systems, are equally applicable to homocyclic and heterocyclic compounds and can be readily computed from 1-matrices calculated at any level of electronic structure theory. However, only the index ING, derived from the Giambiagi formula, produces proper ordering of aromaticities of heterocyclic compounds, provided it is calculated from all-electron wavefunctions in conjunction with the atoms in molecule (AIM) partitioning. Its values are shown to be strongly affected by electron correlation effects. Because of its apparent inability to distinguish between anti- and nonaromatic systems, ING should only be employed for aromatic species. 相似文献

We have investigated table salt and other alkali metal chloride monomers, ClM, and (distorted) cubic tetramers, (ClM)(4), with M = Li, Na, K, and Rb, using density functional theory (DFT) at the BP86/TZ2P level. Our objectives are to determine how the structure and thermochemistry (e.g., Cl-M bond lengths and strengths, oligomerization energies, etc.) of alkali metal chlorides depend on the metal atom and to understand the emerging trends in terms of quantitative Kohn-Sham molecular orbital (KS-MO) theory. The analyses confirm the high polarity of the Cl-M bond (dipole moment, VDD, and Hirshfeld atomic charges). They also reveal that bond overlap derived stabilization (approximately -26, -20, and -8 kcal/mol), although clearly larger than in the corresponding F-M bonds, contributes relatively little to the (trend in) bond strengths (-105, -90, and -94 kcal/mol) along M = Li, Na, and K. Thus, the Cl-M bonding mechanism resembles more closely that of the even more ionic F-M bond than that of the more covalent C-M or H-M bonds. Tetramerization causes the Cl-M bond to expand, and it reduces its polarity. 相似文献
