Measurements of HO2 uptake coefficient on aqueous (NH4)2SO4 aerosol using aerosol flow tube with LIF system

The γ(HO₂) was elevated with increase of Cu(II) concentrations in aqueous (NH₄)₂SO₄ aerosol. The threshold of Cu(II) concentration was 10^-3 mol/L for the dramatic increase of γ(HO₂) to 0.1, suggesting sensitive γ(HO₂) value to concentration of transition metal ions in aerosol.     

Effect of Co-solvent on the Palladium Catalyzed Alkoxycarbonylation of Allyl Bromide in Supercritical CO_2

We have studied the palladium-catalyzed alkoxycarbonylation of allyl bromide in supercritical (sc) CO2 and found the reaction rate in sc CO2 was lower than those in some organic solvents1. The possible reason was the lower solubility of sc CO2 for the palladium catalyst. As an effective approach to improve the solubility of varieties of solutes, cosolvent such as ethanol has been widely used in the sc CO2 extraction2,3. Regio- and stereocontrolled synthesis and conformational analysis of benzimidazole nucleosides

Regio- and stereocontrolled synthesis and conformational analysis of a series of benzimidazole nucleosides were achieved. A simple method by ¹H NMR 1D NOE experiment was developed for estimation of syn or anti conformation of benzimidazole nucleosides. Substituents at C2 of benzimidazole demonstrated to play a key role both in the unexpected regioselectivity of the glycosidic reaction and in the conformation distributions of the final products.     

In situ monitoring of metal nanoparticle self-assembly on protein-functionalized glass by broadband optical waveguide spectroscopy

Broadband, time-resolved optical waveguide (OWG) spectroscopy has been used for in situ, real-time investigation into the self-assembly of metal nanoparticle monolayers. The OWG spectroscopy makes it possible to use the transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) modes to measure surface plasmon absorption of immobilized metal nanoparticles in two directions, parallel and normal to the waveguide surface. Therefore, this technique can provide direction-dependent information on the metal nanoparticles at the interface. In this paper, a 50-microm-thick glass plate was used as a slab waveguide and the kinetics of Au nanoparticle adsorption on a hemoglobin-functionalized glass substrate was examined in the early stage of self-assembly. The findings show that with the TE mode the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) behavior for immobilized Au nanoparticles is different from that with the TM mode.     

Structural and photocatalytic properties of the new solid photocatalyst In2BiTaO7

In₂BiTaO₇ was synthesized using the solid-state reaction method and its photocatalytic properties were investigated. The results of powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) indicated that the compound crystallizes in the pyrochlore-type structure, cubic system with space group Fd-3m. The lattice parameter is 10.6972(1) ?. In addition, the compound shows strong optical absorption in the visible region (λ > 420 nm) and the band gap of In₂BiTaO₇ was estimated to be about 2.47 eV. For the photocatalytic reaction, H₂ or O₂ evolution was observed from CH₃OH/H₂O or AgNO₃ solution respectively with In₂BiTaO₇ as the photocatalyst under visible light irradiation, indicating that In₂BiTaO₇ is responsive to visible light for splitting water. Furthermore, the catalyst remained photoactive in the wavelength range up to 510 nm. Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye over the compound was further investigated under visible light irradiation. The results showed that complete removal of aqueous MB could be achieved after irradiation for 135 min over In₂BiTaO₇. Furthermore, under visible light irradiation In₂BiTaO₇ showed markedly higher catalytic activity compared to P-25 for MB photocatalytic degradation.

A new Co(II) complex with N,O-donor Schiff base: Synthesis, structure and characterization

A new Co(II) complex with tridentate Schiff base ligand with a N,N,O donor set has been synthesized and characterized by single X-ray technique and spectroscopic techniques. The thermochemical properties have been studied. X-ray structure analysis of the title compound Co(II)L₂ [HL = 2-methyl-6-(2′-hydroxybenzylideneamino) pyridine] shows that the polyhedron around Co(II) is a distorted tetrahedron, and the self-assembly via intermolecular π-π interactions leads to a three-dimensional network.
