In the present experimental setup, the transient disturbance growth in a spatially invariant boundary layer flow, i.e., the asymptotic suction boundary layer (ASBL), has been investigated. The choice of the ASBL brings along several advantages compared with an ordinary spatially growing boundary layer. A unique feature of the ASBL is that the Reynolds number (Re) can be varied without changing the boundary layer thickness, which in turn allows for parameter variations not possible to carry out in traditional boundary layer flows. A spanwise array of discrete surface roughness elements was mounted on the surface to trigger modes with different spanwise wavenumbers (β). It is concluded that for each mode there exists a threshold roughness Reynolds number (Re k ), below which no significant transient growth is present. The experimental data suggests that this threshold Re k is both a function of β and Re. An interesting result is that the energy growth curves respond differently to a change in Re k when caused by a change in roughness height k, implying that Re remains constant, compared with a change in the free-stream velocity UU_\infty, which also affects the Re. The scaling of the energy growth curves both in level and the downstream direction is treated and appropriate scalings are found. The result shows a complex non-linear receptivity mechanism. Optimal perturbation theory, which has failed to predict the energy evolution in growing boundary layers, is tested for the ASBL and shows that it may satisfactorily predict the evolution of all transiently growing modes that are triggered by the roughness elements.  相似文献

The use of conventional therapy based on a single therapeutic agent is not optimal to treat human diseases. The concept called “combination therapy”, based on simultaneous administration of multiple therapeutics is recognized as a more efficient solution. Interestingly, this concept has been in use since ancient times in traditional herbal remedies with drug combinations, despite mechanisms of these therapeutics not fully comprehended by scientists. This idea has been recently re‐enacted in modern scenarios with the introduction of polymeric micelles loaded with several drugs as multidrug nanocarriers. This Concept article presents current research and developments on the application of polymeric micelles for multidrug delivery and combination therapy. The principles of micelle formation, their structure, and the developments and concept of multidrug delivery are introduced, followed by discussion on recent advances of multidrug delivery concepts directed towards targeted drug delivery and cancer, gene, and RNA therapies. The advantages of various polymeric micelles designed for different applications, and new developments combined with diagnostics and imaging are elucidated. A compilation work from our group based on multidrug‐loaded micelles as carriers in drug‐releasing implants for local delivery systems based on titania nanotubes is summarized. Finally, an overview of recent developments and prospective outlook for future trends in this field is given.  相似文献

Summary: Coffee pulp is the main solid residue from the wet processing of coffee berries. Recent stringent measures by Pollution Control authorities, made it mandatory to treat all the solid and liquid waste emanating from the coffee farms. A study was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of an exotic (Eudrilus eugeniae) and a native earthworm (Perionyx ceylanesis) from coffee farm for decomposition of coffee pulp into valuable vermicompost. Exotic earthworms were found to degrade the coffee pulp faster (112 days) as compared to the native worms (165 days) and the vermicomposting efficiency (77.9%) and vermicompost yield (389 kg) were found to significantly higher with native worms. The multiplication rate of earthworms (280%) and worm yield (3.78 kg) recorded significantly higher with the exotic earthworms. The percentage of nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, calcium and magnesium in vermicompost was found to increase while C:N ratio, pH and total organic carbon declined as a function of the vermicomposting. Vermicompost and vermicasts from native earthworms recorded significantly higher functional microbial group's population as compared to the exotic worms. The study reveals that coffee pulp can be very well used as substrate for vermicomposting using exotic (Eudrilus eugeniae) and native earthworm (Perionyx ceylanesis).  相似文献

We propose a foam cone-in-shell target design aiming at optimum hot electron production for the fast ignition. A thin low-density foam is proposed to cover the inner tip of a gold cone inserted in a fuel shell. An intense laser is then focused on the foam to generate hot electrons for the fast ignition. Element experiments demonstrate increased laser energy coupling efficiency into hot electrons without increasing the electron temperature and beam divergence with foam coated targets in comparison with solid targets. This may enhance the laser energy deposition in the compressed fuel plasma.  相似文献

The synchronization of chaotic systems is a difficult task due to their sensitive dependence on the initial conditions. Perfect synchronization is almost impossible when noise is present in the system. One of the well known stochastic filtering algorithms that is used to synchronize chaotic systems in the presence of noise is the extended Kalman filter (EKF). However, for highly nonlinear systems, the approximation error introduced by the EKF has been shown to be relatively high. In this paper, a nonlinear predictive filter (NPF) is proposed for synchronizing chaotic systems. In this scheme, it is not required to approximate the underlying nonlinearity and hence there is no need to compute the Jacobian of the chaotic system. Numerical simulations are carried out to compare the performances of the NPF and EKF algorithms for synchronizing different sets of chaotic systems and/or maps. The well known Lorenz and Mackey-Glass systems as well as Ikeda map are used for numerical evaluation of the performance. Results clearly show that the NPF based approach is superior to the EKF based approach in terms of the normalized mean square error (NMSE), total NMSE, and the time taken for synchronization (measured in terms of the normalized instantaneous square error) for all the systems and/or maps considered.  相似文献
