A class of one-dimensional continuum fluid models is defined in which classical particles interact through translationally invariant, strongly tempered manybody potentials meeting conditions sufficient to ensure a proper thermodynamic limit. However, an exact analysis demonstrates that for certain ranges of parameter values the pressure versus density isotherms arediscontinuous. The basic models also entail discontinuous temperature versus configurational entropy isobars but extended models are described which exhibit either type of anomaly alone and various unobserved but thermodynamically allowed, anomalous types of first-order transitions. 相似文献

The use of lanthanide shift reagents (LSR's) to obtain additional structural information from nuclear magnetic resonance studies has gained widespread acceptance. However, there has not been general agreement with regard to the most appropriate methodology for analysis of the shifted NMR spectra. We present arguments that only the bound shifts (Δ1) corresponding to the LS complex should be used for correlation of lanthanide-induced shifts with molecular structure by means of the pseudocontact equation. Several examples are discussed of compounds for which the relative induced shifts are dependent on the concentration of LSR. For such cases it is not possible for both Δ1 and Δ2 (the bound shift corresponding to the LS2 complex) to correlate successfully with the correct structure. Antiserum specific for propanediol dehydrogenase, an enzyme found inNeisseria gonorrhoeae cells, has been immobilized to glass. When mixed withN gonorrhoeae cell lysates, the immobilized antibody (IMA) binds the enzyme. Over 70% of the calculated adsorbed activity can be recovered from the immobilized antibody-enzyme (IMA-E) complex. When mixed with bacterial lysates prepared from different organisms having propanediol dehydrogenase-like activity, the IMA specifically adsorbed the enzyme from theN gonorrhoeae lysate. IMA-E complexes have been prepared and their kinetic, temperature and chemical stability, and antigenic properties investigated. A study of the fluorescence spectra of fly ash samples from different sources has shown that each samples has a characteristic fluorescence and excitation spectrum which could be used to identify and monitor its presence. Fluorescence lifetime studies of samples from different sources have demonstrated characteristic features which can be used for identification. We present molecular dynamics simulations of the optical Kerr effect in liquid and supercooled water and compare with recent time-resolved Kerr spectroscopy measurements [R. Torre, Nature (London) 428, 296 (2004)]. The short time features of the Kerr response, characterized by peaks near 15, 60, and 160 fs, are weakly temperature dependent. The long-time decay is well described by a stretched exponential with a nearly constant stretch parameter and relaxation times that follow a power law approximately (T-T(S))(-gamma), with T(S)=198.3 K and gamma=2.35. Our findings are discussed in the light of the spectroscopy data and previous simulation analyzes of the structural relaxation in supercooled water. 相似文献

Heat capacity measurements have been made down to 5 mK for 3He fluid films adsorbed in one-dimensional (1D) nanometer-scale pores, 28 A in diameter, preplated with 4He of 1.47 atomic layers. At low 3He density, the heat capacity shows a density-dependent, Schottky-like peak near 150 mK asymptoting to the value corresponding to a 2D Boltzmann gas at high temperatures. The peak behavior is attributed to the crossover from a 2D gas to a 1D state at low temperatures. The degenerate state of the 1D 3He fluid is indicated by a predominantly linear temperature dependence below about 30 mK. 相似文献
