Production of squeezed states in a degenerate parametric amplifier

An analysis of the degenerate parametric amplifier including the quantisation of pump and signal modes is presented. It is shown that the fluctuations in one quadrature of the signal mode may be reduced at most by a factor of two. This is in contradistinction to analyses where the pump field is treated classically which overestimate the reduction in fluctuations possible.     

Thermotropic diacetylenic liquid crystals

Further studies are reported on polar diacetylenes with conjugated side chains which show liquid-crystalline behaviour. Results obtained using differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, and hot stage microscopy are reported. One group of materials forms a smectic liquid crystal phase and all polymerize from a nematic liquid crystal phase.     

Drift Mobility of Electrons in Pyrazoline-Containing Copolymers

Drift mobility of electrons in copolymers containing pyrazolyl fragment in the main or side chain of the copolymer is studied experimentally using the time-of-flight method. The mobility is an exponential function of the applied electric field, and its values for the copolymers range from 5 × 10^–7 to 2 × 10^–5 cm² V^–1 s^–1 at the field strength ranging from 5 × 10⁴ to 1 × 10⁶ V cm^–1. Based on the measured mobilities and the molecule parameters, which were obtained by a PM3 quantum-chemical calculation, the role of copolymer fragments in the transport of charge carriers is discussed.     

Directed ortho Metalation reaction of aryl O-carbamates on solid support

The first Directed ortho Metalation (DoM) reaction of aryl O-carbamates on polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) resin using a trityl linker is described. Using low temperatures and short metalation times, a range of electrophiles have been introduced to give, after cleavage from support, substituted benzyl alcohols in high purity. Measurement-based teleportation along quantum spin chains

We examine the teleportation of an unknown spin-1/2 quantum state along a quantum spin chain with an even number of sites. Our protocol, using a sequence of Bell measurements, may be viewed as an iterated version of the 2-qubit protocol of C. H. Bennett et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 70, 1895 (1993)]. A decomposition of the Hilbert space of the spin chain into 4 vector spaces, called Bell subspaces, is given. It is established that any state from a Bell subspace may be used as a channel to perform unit fidelity teleportation. The space of all spin-0 many-body states, which includes the ground states of many known antiferromagnetic systems, belongs to a common Bell subspace. A channel-dependent teleportation parameter [symbol: see text] is introduced, and a bound on the teleportation fidelity is given in terms of [symbol: see text].
