Inspired by the kinetic theory of ergodic gases and chaotic billiards, we propose a simple microscopic mechanism for the increase of thermoelectric efficiency. We consider the cross transport of particles and energy in open classical ergodic billiards. We show that, in the linear response regime, where we find exact expressions for all transport coefficients, the thermoelectric efficiency of ideal ergodic gases can approach the Carnot efficiency for sufficiently complex charge carrier molecules. Our results are clearly demonstrated with a simple numerical simulation of a Lorentz gas of particles with internal rotational degrees of freedom.  相似文献

The use of momentum-resolved inelastic x-ray scattering with meV energy resolution to study the high-frequency atomic dynamics in disordered systems is here reviewed. The typical realization of this experiment is described together with some common models used to interpret the measured spectra and to extract parameters of interest for the investigation of disordered systems. With the help of some selected examples, the present status of the field is discussed. Particular attention is given to those results which are still open for discussion or controversial, and which will require further development of the technique to be fully solved. Such an instrumental development seems nowadays possible at the light of recently proposed schemes for advanced inelastic x-ray scattering spectrometers. To cite this article: G. Monaco, C. R. Simulations of an n-heptane spray autoigniting under conditions relevant to a diesel engine are performed using two-dimensional, first-order conditional moment closure (CMC) with full treatment of spray terms in the mixture fraction variance and CMC equations. The conditional evaporation term in the CMC equations is closed assuming interphase exchange to occur at the droplet saturation mixture fraction values only. Modeling of the unclosed terms in the mixture fraction variance equation is done accordingly. Comparison with experimental data for a range of ambient oxygen concentrations shows that the ignition delay is overpredicted. The trend of increasing ignition delay with decreasing oxygen concentration, however, is correctly captured. Good agreement is found between the computed and measured flame lift-off height for all conditions investigated. Analysis of source terms in the CMC temperature equation reveals that a convective–reactive balance sets in at the flame base, with spatial diffusion terms being important, but not as important as in lifted jet flames in cold air. Inclusion of droplet terms in the governing equations is found to affect the mixture fraction variance field in the region where evaporation is the strongest, and to slightly increase the ignition delay time due to the cooling associated with the evaporation. Both flame propagation and stabilization mechanisms, however, remain unaffected.  相似文献

The ring of integer-valued polynomials on A with coefficients in K is \( Int _K(A) = \{f \in K[X] \mid f(A) \subseteq A\}\), which generalizes the classic ring \( Int (D) = \{f \in K[X] \mid f(D) \subseteq D\}\) of integer-valued polynomials on D. The condition on \(A \cap K\) implies that \(D[X] \subseteq Int _K(A) \subseteq Int (D)\), and we say that \( Int _K(A)\) is nontrivial if \( Int _K(A) \ne D[X]\). For any integral domain D, we prove that if A is finitely generated as a D-module, then \( Int _K(A)\) is nontrivial if and only if \( Int (D)\) is nontrivial. When A is not necessarily finitely generated but D is Dedekind, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for \( Int _K(A)\) to be nontrivial. These conditions also allow us to prove that, for D Dedekind, the domain \( Int _K(A)\) has Krull dimension 2.  相似文献

We present an environmentally benign methodology for the covalent functionalization (arylation) of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets with arylazo sulfones. A variety of tagged aryl units were conveniently accommodated at the rGO surface via visible-light irradiation of suspensions of carbon nanostructured materials in aqueous media. Mild reaction conditions, absence of photosensitizers, functional group tolerance and high atomic fractions (XPS analysis) represent some of the salient features characterizing the present methodology. Control experiments for the mechanistic elucidation (Raman analysis) and chemical nanomanipulation of the tagged rGO surfaces are also reported.  相似文献

Abstract— EPR studies of the porphyrin-sensitized photooxidation of 2, 2, 6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine to the nitroxide demonstrate that all the porphyrins examined are able to generate 1O2, although the efficiency of the photoprocess is dependent on the nature of the side chains. Incorporation of metal ions into the porphyrin molecule depresses or even inhibits the formation of 1O2. Comparison of these results with previously obtained kinetic data points out that the efficiency of porphyrins as photosensitizes is controlled by the lifetime of their lowest triplet state.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to give a mathematical justification of cloaking due to anomalous localized resonance (CALR). We consider the dielectric problem with a source term in a structure with a layer of plasmonic material. Using layer potentials and symmetrization techniques, we give a necessary and sufficient condition on the fixed source term for electromagnetic power dissipation to blow up as the loss parameter of the plasmonic material goes to zero. This condition is written in terms of the Newtonian potential of the source term. In the case of concentric disks, we make the condition even more explicit. Using the condition, we are able to show that for any source supported outside a critical radius, CALR does not take place, and for sources located inside the critical radius satisfying certain conditions, CALR does take place as the loss parameter goes to zero.  相似文献

A new analytical method was developed for the routine specific determination of the anionic surfactant Alcohol polyEthoxylate Sulfate (AES) in environmental aqueous samples. An enrichment/fractionation of the target analytes in water samples was performed by solid-phase extraction (SPE) on graphitized carbon black (GCB) (recoveries: 90–103%), followed by hydrolysis/derivatization with fluorescent reagents and separation/detection by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography coupled with fluorescence (HPLC-FLD). The developed procedure was applied to the study of the aerobic biodegradation of AES under laboratory conditions and to a ten-month monitoring of AES, as well as of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS), nonylphenol polyethoxylates (NPE) and alcohol polyethoxylates (AE) surfactants, in the Po river (Northern Italy). The residual concentrations found in the river waters were compared and used for a preliminary estimation of the annual average loads of monitored surfactants in the Adriatic Sea.  相似文献
