The 13C NMR spectra of eight 2-alkyl- and 2,3-dialkyl-1-vinylpyrroles were studied. The 13C chemical shifts of all of the carbon atoms of the ring and the vinyl group depend substantially on the position and structure of the alkyl substituent. As the branched character of the alkyl group in the 2 position increases, the signal of the -carbon atom of the vinyl group is shifted to weak field due to weakening of the p- conjugation in the N-vinyl group because of disruption of its coplanarity with the pyrrole ring. The molecular structure of 2-(2-benzoyl-1-phenylethenyl)-5-phenylpyrrole and 2-(2-furoyl-1-phenylethenyl)-5-phenylpyrrole was studied by X-ray diffraction analysis at 110 K and quantum chemistry methods (B3LYP/6-31G*). In the crystalline state, both compounds have cyclic structures closed by strong intramolecular hydrogen bond N—H...O. The reaction of substituted 3-methyl-5-pyrazolones with arylidenebisureas has been studied. Substituted spiro[pyrazole-4, 5-pyrimidines] have been obtained from 1-phenyl- and 1-benzyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolones. The reaction of 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzal-5-pyrazolone with urea does not lead to closing of a pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine ring because of the reduced tendency of the carbonyl group of the pyrazolone to participate in cyclization reactions.
