Fluoride effect on the palladium–phenanthroline catalyzed carbonylation of nitroarenes to carbamates

Fluorides promote the palladium–phenanthroline catalyzed carbonylation of nitroarenes to carbamates. The effect is more evident on the rate of the reaction at short reaction times, but a positive effect on selectivity is also observed under certain conditions. The effect is observed even under conditions under which chloride inhibits the reaction. Tetraethylammonium is a better countercation than sodium. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Chiral 1,4-benzodiazepines. XII. Conformation in a solution of 7-chloro-5-phenyl-3(S)methyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepine

Deuterium labeled congeners of 7-chloro-5-phenyl-3(S)-methyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-1,4-benzodiazepine ( 8 ), i.e., compounds 9 and 16-18 were prepared and their lis-nmr spectra run. For computational studies compounds 9 and 16 were chosen. The results of lis measurements revealed that 16 is present in more than 97% in the boat-like conformation I (Scheme 3).     

Within the Ischemic Penumbra,Sub-Cellular Compartmentalization of Heat Shock Protein 70 Overlaps with Autophagy Proteins and Fails to Merge with Lysosomes

The brain area which surrounds the frankly ischemic region is named the area penumbra. In this area, most cells are spared although their oxidative metabolism is impaired. area penumbra is routinely detected by immunostaining of a molecule named Heat Shock Protein 70 (HSP70). Within the area penumbra, autophagy-related proteins also increase. Therefore, in the present study, the autophagy-related microtubule-associated protein I/II-Light Chain 3 (LC3) was investigated within the area penumbra along with HSP70. In C57 black mice, ischemia was induced by permanent occlusion of the distal part of the middle cerebral artery. Immunofluorescence and electron microscopy show that LC3 and HSP70 are overexpressed and co-localize within the area penumbra in the same cells and within similar subcellular compartments. In the area penumbra, marked loss of co-localization of HSP70 and LC3-positive autophagy vacuoles, with lysosomal-associated membrane protein 1 (LAMP1) or cathepsin-D-positive lysosome vacuoles occurs. This study indicates that, within the area penumbra, a failure of autophagolysosomes depends on defective compartmentalization of LC3, LAMP1 and cathepsin-D and a defect in merging between autophagosomes and lysosomes. Such a deleterious effect is likely to induce a depletion of autophagolysosomes and cell clearing systems, which needs to be rescued in the process of improving neuronal survival.     

Effect of Tomato Peel Extract Grown under Drought Stress Condition in a Sarcopenia Model

Tomatoes and their derivates represent an important source of natural biologically active components. The present study aims to investigate the protective effect of tomato peel extracts, grown in normal (RED-Ctr) or in drought stress (RED-Ds) conditions, on an experimental model of sarcopenia. The phenolic profile and total polyphenols content (TPC) of RED-Ctr and RED-Ds were determined by Ultra High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC) analyses coupled to electrospray ionization high-resolution mass spectrometry (ESI-HR-MS). Human skeletal muscle myoblasts (HSMM) were differentiated in myotubes, and sarcopenia was induced by dexamethasone (DEXA) treatment. Differentiation and sarcopenia were evaluated by both real-time PCR and immunofluorescent techniques. Data show that myosin heavy chain 2 (MYH2), troponin T (TNNT1), and miogenin (MYOG) were expressed in differentiated myotubes. 5 μg Gallic Acid Equivalent (GAE/mL) of TPC from RED-Ds extract significantly reduced muscle atrophy induced by DEXA. Moreover, Forkhead BoxO1 (FOXO1) expression, involved in cell atrophy, was significantly decreased by RED-Ds extract. The protective effect of tomato peel extracts depended on their qualitative polyphenolic composition, resulting effectively in the in vitro model of sarcopenia.     

Kähler–Einstein submanifolds of the infinite dimensional projective space

This paper consists of two main results. In the first one we describe all Kähler immersions of a bounded symmetric domain into the infinite dimensional complex projective space in terms of the Wallach set of the domain. In the second one we exhibit an example of complete and non-homogeneous Kähler–Einstein metric with negative scalar curvature which admits a Kähler immersion into the infinite dimensional complex projective space.     

Periodic Solutions for Completely Resonant Nonlinear Wave Equations with Dirichlet Boundary Conditions

We consider the nonlinear string equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions u_tt–u_xx=(u), with (u)=u³+O(u⁵) odd and analytic, 0, and we construct small amplitude periodic solutions with frequency for a large Lebesgue measure set of close to 1. This extends previous results where only a zero-measure set of frequencies could be treated (the ones for which no small divisors appear). The proof is based on combining the Lyapunov-Schmidt decomposition, which leads to two separate sets of equations dealing with the resonant and non-resonant Fourier components, respectively the Q and the P equations, with resummation techniques of divergent powers series, allowing us to control the small divisors problem. The main difficulty with respect to the nonlinear wave equations u_tt–u_xx+Mu=(u), M0, is that not only the P equation but also the Q equation is infinite-dimensional.     

Global symplectic coordinates on gradient Kähler–Ricci solitons

A classical result of McDuff [14] asserts that a simply connected complete Kähler manifold $(M,g,\omega )$ with non positive sectional curvature admits global symplectic coordinates through a symplectomorphism $\Psi \ : M \rightarrow \mathbb{R }^{2n}$ (where $n$ is the complex dimension of $M$ ), satisfying the following property (proved by E. Ciriza in [4]): the image $\Psi (T)$ of any complex totally geodesic submanifold $T\subset M$ through the point $p$ such that $\Psi (p)=0$ , is a complex linear subspace of $\mathbb C ^n\simeq \mathbb{R }^{2n}$ . The aim of this paper is to exhibit, for all positive integers $n$ , examples of $n$ -dimensional complete Kähler manifolds with non-negative sectional curvature globally symplectomorphic to $\mathbb{R }^{2n}$ through a symplectomorphism satisfying Ciriza’s property.     

A generating functions approach for computing the Public Good index efficiently

In the past years, a combinatorial method based on generating functions was introduced to compute Shapley–Shubik, Banzhaf and other indices for weighted majority games exactly and efficiently. In this paper, taking inspiration from what has already been done, in view of the efficiency of the generating functions method, we define a generating function for computing the Public Good index, maintaining the property of exactness of the resulting algorithm. The main difference with the existing algorithms derives from the fact that the Public Good index takes into account only minimal winning coalitions and counts how many swings of a player involve them. Moreover, we study the computational complexity of the algorithm and we evaluate the Public Good index for the vote share of the Russian Duma in 1995.     

Secondary Metabolites,including a New 5,6-Dihydropyran-2-One,Produced by the Fungus Diplodia corticola. Aphicidal Activity of the Main Metabolite,Sphaeropsidin A

An undescribed 5,6-dihydropyran-2-one, namely diplopyrone C, was isolated and characterized from the cultures of an isolate of the fungus Diplodia corticola recovered from Quercus suber in Algeria. The structure and relative stereostructure of (5S,6S,7Z,9S,10S)-5-hydroxy-6-(2-(3-methyloxiran-2-yl)vinyl)-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-one were assigned essentially based on NMR and MS data. Furthermore, ten known compounds were isolated and identified in the same cultures. The most abundant product, the tetracyclic pimarane diterpene sphaeropsidin A, was tested for insecticidal effects against the model sucking aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum. Results showed a toxic dose-dependent oral activity of sphaeropsidin A, with an LC₅₀ of 9.64 mM.
