The molecular recognition of peptides or peptide fragments by synthetic receptor molecules is of great importance for the design of biosensors, the targeting of cellular processes and hence the development of new therapeutics. Unfortunately, our general understanding of non‐covalent interactions is no yet elaborated enough to create a tailor made receptor starting from zero. One possible approach is therefore to mimic the principles and binding motifs found in nature and further evolve them in to effective receptor molecules using either rational structure variations or a more random combinatorial synthesis. The usefullness and prospective potential of these approaches is illustrated with two case studies showing how one tries to find new strategies to fight bacterial infections and cancer with the help of artificial peptide receptors. 相似文献

Coherent time-domain optical experiments on GaAs-AlAs superlattices reveal the existence of an unusually long-lived acoustic mode at approximately 0.6 THz which couples weakly to the environment by evading the sample boundaries. Classical as well as quantum states that steer clear of surfaces are generally shown to occur in the spectrum of periodic structures, for most boundary conditions. These surface-avoiding waves are associated with frequencies outside forbidden gaps and wave vectors in the vicinity of the center and edge of the Brillouin zone. The effect of citrate-stabilized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on the secondary structure of an artificial β-sheet-forming cationic peptide has been studied. The AuNPs inhibited β-sheet formation and led to fragmented fibrils and spherical oligomers with assembled AuNPs on their surface. Besides this structural change, the functional properties of the peptide are also different. Whereas the peptide was unable to act as a vector for gene delivery, formation of a complex with AuNPs allowed successful gene delivery into cells. 相似文献
