Aging is associated with a drastic decline in fertility/fecundity and with an increased risk of pregnancy complications. Resveratrol (RES), a natural polyphenolic compound, has shown anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in both human and animal models, thus representing a potential therapeutic and prophylactic anti-aging supplement. Here, we investigated whether preconceptional resveratrol supplementation improved reproductive outcomes in mid-aged (8-month-old) and old (12-month-old) C57BL/6J female mice. Female siblings were cohoused and assigned to either RES or vehicle supplementation to drinking water for 10 consecutive weeks. Subsequently, females were mated with non-supplemented males and their pregnancy outcomes were monitored. RES improved mating success in old, but not in mid-aged females, and prevented the occurrence of delivery complications in the latter. These results indicate that preconceptional RES supplementation could partially improve age-related reproductive complications, but it was not sufficient to restore fecundity in female mice at a very advanced age. 相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have great potential as an efficient alternative to current separation and purification procedures of a large variety of solvent mixtures—a critical process in many applications. Due to the huge number of existing MOFs, it is of key importance to identify high-throughput analytical tools, which can be used for their screening and performance ranking. In this context, the present work introduces a simple, fast, and inexpensive approach by compact low-field proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry to investigate the efficiency of MOF materials for the separation of a binary solvent mixture. The mass proportions of two solvents within a particular solvent mixture can be quantified before and after separation with the help of a priori established correlation curves relating the effective transverse relaxation times T2eff and the mass proportions of the two solvents. The new method is applied to test the separation efficiency of powdered UiO-66(Zr) for various solvent mixtures, including linear and cyclic alkanes and benzene derivate, under static conditions at room temperature. Its reliability is demonstrated by comparison with results from 1H liquid-state NMR spectroscopy. 相似文献

The technological exploitation of the extraordinary properties of graphene relies on the ability to achieve full control over the production of a high‐quality material and its processing by up‐scalable approaches in order to fabricate large‐area films with single‐layer or a few atomic‐layer thickness, which might be integrated in working devices. A simple method is reported for producing homogenous dispersions of unfunctionalized and non‐oxidized graphene nanosheets in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP) by using simple molecular modules, which act as dispersion‐stabilizing compounds during the liquid‐phase exfoliation (LPE) process, leading to an increase in the concentration of graphene in dispersions. The LPE‐processed graphene dispersion was shown to be a conductive ink. This approach opens up new avenues for the technological applications of this graphene ink as low‐cost electrodes and conducting nanocomposite for electronics. 相似文献

Hemithioindigo (HTI) photoswitches have a tremendous potential for biological and supramolecular applications due to their absorptions in the visible‐light region in conjunction with ultrafast photoisomerization and high thermal bistability. Rational tailoring of the photophysical properties for a specific application is the key to exploit the full potential of HTIs as photoswitching tools. Herein we use time‐resolved absorption spectroscopy and Hammett analysis to discover an unexpected principal limit to the photoisomerization rate for donor‐substituted HTIs. By using stationary absorption and fluorescence measurements in combination with theoretical investigations, we offer a detailed mechanistic explanation for the observed rate limit. An alternative way of approaching and possibly even exceeding the maximum rate by multiple donor substitution is demonstrated, which give access to the fastest HTI photoswitch reported to date. 相似文献

One of the applications of cationic porphyrins is their use in microbial photodynamic inactivation (PDI). For this purpose there is a constant quest for new cationic photoactive derivatives. In this work, we synthesized and fully characterized a new porphyrin 3a and the corresponding cationic derivative 3b. The results presented here show that meso-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin (TPPF20, 1) can be used as scaffold to prepare different soluble compounds with interesting photophysical properties. 相似文献

The results of thermal conductivity study of epoxy–matrix composites filled with different type of powders are reported. Boron nitride and aluminum nitride micro‐powders with different size distribution and surface modification were used. A representative set of samples has been prepared with different contents of the fillers. The microstructure was investigated by SEM observations. Thermal conductivity measurements have been performed at room temperature and for selected samples it was also measured as a function of temperature from 300 K down to liquid helium temperatures. The most spectacular enhancement of the thermal conductivity was obtained for composites filled with hybrid fillers of boron nitride–silica and aluminum nitride–silica. In the case of sample with 31 vol.% of boron nitride–silica hybrid filler it amounts to 114% and for the sample with 45 vol.% of hybrid filler by 65% as compared with the reference composite with silica filler. However, in the case of small aluminum nitride grains application, large interfacial areas were introduced, promoting creation of thermal resistance barriers and causing phonon scattering more effective. As a result, no thermal conductivity improvement was obtained. Different characters of temperature dependencies are observed for hybrid filler composites which allowed identifying the component filler of the dominant contribution to the thermal conductivity in each case. The data show a good agreement with predictions of Agari‐Uno model, indicating the importance of conductive paths forming effect already at low filler contents. Preparation of Photoactive Polymers and Postmodification via Nitroxide Trapping Under UV Irradiation
New types of photoactive homo and block copolymers bearing α−hydroxyalkylphenylketone (2‐hydroxy‐2‐methyl‐1‐phenylpropan‐1‐one) moieties as backbone substituents are prepared using nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMP). Such polymers can be readily activated via the Norrish‐type I photoreaction to give polymeric acyl radicals. Photolysis in the presence of a persistent nitroxide, which serves as a C‐ radical trapping reagent, leads to chemically modified polymers conjugated with nitroxide moieties. The number‐average molecular weight (M n) of the prepolymers and the chemically modified polymers was determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Structures were further confirmed by NMR spectroscopy and by attenuated total reflection (ATR) Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. 相似文献

We present numerical studies of active flow control applied to jet flow. We focus on rectangular jets, which are more unstable than their circular counterparts. The higher level of instability is expressed mainly by an increased intensity of mixing of the main flow with its surroundings. We analyse jets with aspect ratio Ar = 1, Ar = 2 and Ar = 3 at Re = 10,000. It is shown that the application of control with a suitable excitation (forcing) at the jet nozzle can amplify the mixing and qualitatively alter the character of the flow. This can result in an increased spreading rate of the jet or even splitting into nearly separate streams. The excitations studied are obtained from a superposition of axial and flapping forcing terms. We consider the effect of varying parameters such as the frequency of the excitations and phase shift between forcing components. The amplitude of the forcing is 10% of the inlet centreline jet velocity and the forcing frequencies correspond to Strouhal numbers in a range St = 0.3–0.7. It is shown that qualitatively different flow regimes and a rich variety of possible flow behaviours can be achieved simply by changing aspect ratio and forcing parameters. The numerical results are obtained applying large eddy simulation in combination with a high-order compact difference code for incompressible flows. The solutions are validated based on experimental data from literature for non-excited jets for Ar = 1 at Re = 1.84 × 105 and Ar = 2 at Re = 1.28 × 105.
