Summary In view of the investigation of contaminated model sites in Baden-Württemberg an inter-laboratory comparison was organized for the methods used for analysing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The laboratories performing chemical and physical analyses at the model sites participated at the request of the Landesanstalt für Umweltschutz, Baden-Württemberg. This inter-laboratory comparison was meant as a first laboratory evaluation, and not as the search for the best method available. Furthermore, it was to show the difficulties in comparing results from different laboratories, which have analysed identical samples. The results of the inter-laboratory comparison between the nine laboratories showed a reproducibility coefficient of variation, for the total of the 16 PAHs according to the EPA, between 48.8 and 61.1% in the concentration range of 5 to 55 mg/kg in the soil samples. One of the laboratories reported significantly lower values compared with the true value. This was probably due to an ill-suited (sample) preparation method. Although the results of the inter-laboratory comparison are, in general, satisfactory, the reproducibility can be improved by standardizing the analytical method for the determination of PAHs in solid environmental samples. 相似文献

High magnetic fields are shown to be remarkably effective to orient self-assembled 2,3-bis-n-decyloxyanthracene (DDOA) fibers during organogel preparation. Magnetic orientation of DDOA results in a highly organized material displaying a fiber-orientation order parameter of 0.85, a large linear birefringence, and fluorescence dichroism. The aligned organogel is stable after removal of the magnetic field at room temperature and consists of fibers oriented perpendicular to the magnetic field direction, as shown by scanning electron microscopy. Models for the molecular organization within the gel fibers are discussed upon quantitative analysis of the birefringence. Prospectively, magnetic alignment can be used to improve specific properties of organogel materials. 相似文献

Iterative tandem catalysis is presented as a flexible tool for obtaining chiral macromolecules from racemic or prochiral monomers. Here, we combine lipase-catalyzed ring-opening of omega-substituted lactones with ruthenium-catalyzed racemization. In a two-pot system, enantioenriched oligomers of 6-methyl-epsilon-caprolactone were synthesized, which could not have been obtained by enzymatic ring-opening alone. Summary A method is described for the acceleration of the eluent flow through a Chromatographic column by means of centrifugal force, thus allowing the use of chromatographic beds of low permeability. BACKGROUND: Over 2000 protein kinases regulate cellular functions. Screening for inhibitors of some of these kinases has already yielded some potent and selective compounds with promising potential for the treatment of human diseases. RESULTS: The marine sponge constituent hymenialdisine is a potent inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinases, glycogen synthase kinase-3beta and casein kinase 1. Hymenialdisine competes with ATP for binding to these kinases. A CDK2-hymenialdisine complex crystal structure shows that three hydrogen bonds link hymenialdisine to the Glu81 and Leu83 residues of CDK2, as observed with other inhibitors. Hymenialdisine inhibits CDK5/p35 in vivo as demonstrated by the lack of phosphorylation/down-regulation of Pak1 kinase in E18 rat cortical neurons, and also inhibits GSK-3 in vivo as shown by the inhibition of MAP-1B phosphorylation. Hymenialdisine also blocks the in vivo phosphorylation of the microtubule-binding protein tau at sites that are hyperphosphorylated by GSK-3 and CDK5/p35 in Alzheimer's disease (cross-reacting with Alzheimer's-specific AT100 antibodies). CONCLUSIONS: The natural product hymenialdisine is a new kinase inhibitor with promising potential applications for treating neurodegenerative disorders. 相似文献
