Zeolite HY and Silica Gel as New and Efficient Heterogenous Catalysts for the Synthesis of Triarylimidazoles under Microwave Irradiation

 Zeolite HY and silica gel efficiently catalyzed the three component condensation of benzil, benzaldehyde derivatives, and ammonium acetate under solvent-free conditions and microwave irradiation.     

Phase behavior study of poly(N‐tertbutylacrylamide‐co‐acrylamide) in the mixture of water–methanol: The role of polymer–nonsolvent second‐order interactions

The phase behavior of poly(N‐tertbutylacrylamide‐co‐acrylamide) (PNTBAM) in pure water and mixture of water–methanol is studied at different temperatures. The different compositions of PNTBAM are prepared by free‐radical polymerization technique and their phase behavior is studied by turbidimetry. The effects of copolymer and solvent composition on the phase behavior of the copolymers are discussed. It has been suggested that the inhomogenities in polymer chains are responsible for lowering the rate of phase transition by increasing the N‐tertbutylacrylamide (NTBAM) and methanol contents in copolymer and mixture, respectively. For the first time we have revealed that there are second‐order binary interactions in the water–methanol which are dominant in the special range of copolymer composition. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Keggin Heteropolyacid Catalyzed Synthesis of Isoxazolo[5,4-d]pyrimidine-4,6(5H,7H)-diones at Room Temperature

Isoxazolo[5,4‐d]pyrimidine‐4,6(5H,7H)diones 2a – 2f have been synthesized from the reaction of ethyl 5‐amino‐3‐methyl‐4‐isoxazole carboxylate ( 1 ) with aryl isocyanates in the presence of Keggin heteropolyacid H₃[PW₁₂O₄₀] as a green solid acid catalyst at room temperature in a one‐pot process in good yields.     

Multispectroscopic DNA interaction studies of a water-soluble nickel(II) complex containing different dinitrogen aromatic ligands

The water-soluble Ni(II) complex, [Ni(bipy)₂(phen-dione)](OAc)₂·2H₂O (bipy = 2,2′-bipyridine and phen-dione = 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione) has been synthesized and characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. The binding interactions of this complex with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) were investigated using fluorimetry, spectrophotometry, circular dichroism and viscosimetry. In fluorimetric studies, the enthalpy and entropy of the reaction between the complex and CT-DNA showed that the reaction is exothermic (ΔH = −123.9 kJ mol⁻¹; ΔS = −323.5 J mol⁻¹ K⁻¹). The competitive binding studies showed that the complex could not release methylene blue completely. The complex showed absorption hyperchromism in its UV–Vis spectrum with DNA. The calculated binding constant, K _b obtained from UV–Vis absorption studies was 2 × 10⁵ M⁻¹. Moreover, the complex induced detectable changes in the CD spectrum of CT-DNA, as well as changes in its viscosity. The results suggest that this nickel(II) complex interact with CT-DNA via a groove-binding mode.     

The role of entropy in word ranking

Entropy as a measure of complexity in the systems has been applied for ranking the words in the human written texts. We introduce a novel approach to evaluate accuracy for retrieved indices. We also have an illustrative comparison between proposed entropic metrics and some other methods in extracting the keywords. It seems that, some of the discussed metrics apply similar features for word ranking in the text. This work recommend the entropy as a systematic measure in text mining.     

Micro ATR‐FTIR study of the hydration state of poly(N‐tert‐butylacrylamide‐co‐acrylamide) copolymers during phase transition in aqueous media and in the mixture of water–methanol

Coil‐globule transition of poly(N‐tert‐butylacrylamide‐co‐acrylamide) P(NTBAM‐co‐AM) copolymers is investigated in the aqueous solution and in the mixture of water–methanol by micro ATR‐FTIR spectroscopy technique. In this study the microstructure and its changes in the hydration states of the distinct groups of these copolymers are investigated by micro ATR/FTIR technique. The results showed that by heating the solution above the LCST hydrogen bonding between C?O and water was decreased but the hydrogen bonding between polymeric chains increased, which prove the aggregation of polymer chain during phase separation. Periodic solution of a second order, autonomous, nonlinear system

There exist a sufficient condition for the existence of at least one periodic solution for a type of second order autonomous ordinary differential equations. The correctness of the condition has been pointed out by Schauder's fixed point theorem. In order to indicate the validity of the assumptions made, two illustrative examples, showing its application in the nonlinear vibration and relaxation oscillation are presented.
