Abstract  New imidazo[4,5-a]acridone derivatives were synthesized from the rearrangement of 3H-imidazo[4′,5′:3,4]benzo[c]isoxazoles. New imidazo[4,5-a]acridines were obtained from the reaction of imidazo[4,5-a]acridones in boiling POCl₃. All of these compounds exhibited antimicrobial activities comparable to streptomycin as reference drug. Graphical abstract

New route to 2-arylthieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-ones and isolation of the unoxidized intermediates

Abstract  A new route to the synthesis of 2-arylthieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-ones has been developed through heterocyclization of 2-amino-4,5-dimethylthiophene-3-carboxamide with aromatic aldehydes in boiling glacial acetic acid followed by air oxidation. The unoxidized intermediates, 2-aryl-2,3-dihydrothieno[2,3-d]pyrimidin-4(1H)-ones, are isolated when the reactions are carried out either at room temperature or under a nitrogen atmosphere. Kinetic studies of the oxidative coupling of methane over the Mn/Na2WO4/SiO2 catalyst

Oxidative coupling of methane is a direct way to obtain C2 hydrocarbon,and Mn-Na-W/SiO2 catalyst is the most promising among all the catalysts.The 2%Mn/5%Na2WO4/SiO2 catalyst was prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation method.A 7-step heterogeneous reaction model of the oxidative coupling of methane to C2 hydrocarbons was conducted by co-feeding methane and oxygen at a total pressure of 1 bar over the catalyst.The kinetic measurements were carried out in a micro-catalytic fixed bed reactor.The kinetic data were obtained at the appropriate range of reaction conditions (4 kPa＜Po2 ＜20 kPa,20 kPa＜PCZH4 ＜80 kPa,800℃＜T＜900℃).The proposed reaction kinetic scheme consists of three primary and four consecutive reaction steps.The conversions of hydrocarbons and carbon oxides were evaluated by applying Langrnuir-Hinshelwood type rate equations.Power-law rate equation was applied only for the water-gas shift reaction.In addition,the effects of operating conditions on the reaction rate were studied.The proposed kinetic model can predict the conversion of methane and oxygen as well as the yield of C2 hydrocarbons and carbon oxides with an average accuracy of ±15%.     

Adsorptive Stripping Voltammetric Determination of Nanomolar Concentration of Cerium(III) at a Carbon Paste Electrode Modified by N′‐[(2‐Hydroxyphenyl)Methylidene]‐2‐Furohydrazide

The aim of this work was to obtain an adsorptive stripping voltammetric method for the Ce(III) determination at a carbon paste electrode, chemically modified with N'‐[(2‐hydroxyphenyl)methylidene]‐2‐furohydrazide (NHMF). The electroanalytical procedure comprised two steps: the Ce(III) chemical accumulation at ?200 mV followed by the electrochemical detection of the Ce(III)/NHMF complex, using anodic stripping voltammetry. The factors, influencing the adsorptive stripping performance, were optimized including the modifier quantity in the paste, the electrolyte concentrations, the solution pH and the accumulation potential or time. The resulting electrode demonstrated a linear response over a wide range of Ce(III) concentration (5.0–90 nmol dm^?3). The detection limit was found to be 0.8 nmol dm^?3 on the basis of a signal to noise ratio of 3. The precision for six determinations of 10 and 55 nmol dm^?3 Ce(III) was 5.6% and 2.1% (relative standard deviation), respectively. Application of the procedure to the determination of cerium in phosphate rock and wastewater samples gave good results.     

A novel antimicrobial triterpenic acid from the leaves of Ficus benjamina (var. comosa)

The chloroform extract of the leaves of Ficus benjamina (var. comosa) (Moraceae) afforded a new triterpenic acid named as (9,11), (18,19)-disecoolean-12-en-28-oic acid (1) along with β-amyrin (2). Their structures were established on the basis of chemical and physical evidences (IR, ¹H NMR, and MS data). The compound 1 exhibited significant antimicrobial activity against Salmonella typhimurium (MTCC-98), Candida albicans (IAO-109), Staphylococcus aureus (IAO-SA-22), Escherichia coli (K-12) and low activity against Aspergillus niger (lab isolate ICAR) and Aspergillus brassicola.     

Nano-sized Cu6Sn5 alloy prepared by a co-precipitation reductive route

Nano-sized Cu₆Sn₅ alloy powders were prepared by a co-precipitation reductive route using a hydrothermal method at 80 °C. The nano-size and morphology of the synthesized Cu₆Sn₅ alloy powders were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The obtained morphologies, chemical compositions are comparatively discussed. A variety of synthesis parameters, such as time, capping agent and sort of reductant, has an effect on the morphology of the obtained materials, and will be particularly highlighted.     

Benign synthesis of carboxamide ligands,H2Me2bqb and H2Me2bpb. Preparation,characterization and electrochemistry of Ni(II) complexes: The crystal structure of [Ni(Me2bqb)]

A novel and highly efficient approach for the synthesis of H₂Me₂bqb and H₂Me₂bpb using ionic liquid as an environmentally benign reaction medium has been developed, eliminating the need for the pyridine as a toxic solvent. The Ni(II) complex of the dianionic ligand Me₂bqb²⁻, [Me₂bqb²⁻ = 1,2-bis(quinoline-2-carboxamide)-4,5-dimethyl-benzene dianion], has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses and spectroscopic methods, and the crystal and molecular structure of [Ni(Me₂bqb)] (1), has been determined by X-ray crystallography. The complex exhibits distorted square-planar NiN₄ coordination geometry with two short and two long Ni–N bonds (Ni–N ∼1.85 and ∼1.96 Å, respectively). The electrochemical behavior of [Ni(Me₂bqb)] (1), has been studied by cyclic voltammetry and compared with the analogous complex, [Ni(Me₂bpb)] (2).     

An efficient one‐pot synthesis of a new heterocyclic system with high‐fluorescent properties

Nucleophilic substitution of hydrogen in nitro derivative of imidazo[1,2‐a]pyridine has been used as a key step in the one‐pot synthesis of a new highly fluorescent heterocyclic system pyrido [1″,2″:1′,2′]imidazo[4′,5′:5,6]pyrido[2,3‐b]indole. J. Heterocyclic Chem., (2012).
