We have used two-color time-resolved spectroscopy to measure the relaxation of electron spin polarizations in a bulk semiconductor. The circularly polarized pump beam induces a polarization either by direct excitation from the valence band, or by free-carrier (Drude) absorption when tuned to an energy below the band gap. We find that the spin relaxation time, measured with picosecond time resolution by resonant induced Faraday rotation in both cases, increases in the presence of photogenerated holes. In the case of the material chosen, n-InSb, the increase was from 14 to 38 ps. 相似文献

The spontaneous clustering of a vibrofluidized granular gas is employed to generate directed transport in two different compartmentalized systems: a granular fountain in which the transport takes the form of convection rolls, and a granular ratchet with a spontaneous particle current perpendicular to the direction of energy input. In both instances, transport is not due to any system-intrinsic anisotropy, but arises as a spontaneous collective symmetry breaking effect of many interacting granular particles. Bond-breaking excitations ω α are the problematic case of adiabatic time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT). The calculated ω α erroneously vanishes with the bond elongation, since the Hartree-exchange-correlation kernel and the corresponding response coupling matrix K of standard approximations lack the characteristic divergence in the dissociation limit. In this paper an approximation for K is proposed constructed from the highest-level functionals, in which both occupied and virtual Kohn-Sham orbitals participate with the weights w p . The latter provide the correct divergence of K in the limit of dissociating two-electron bond. The present K brings a decisive contribution to the energy of the 1Σ u + in the prototype H2 molecule calculated for various H-H separations. At shorter separations it improves ω α compared to the zero-order TDDFT estimate, while at the largest separation it reproduces near-saturation of the reference excitation energy. 相似文献

An axially symmetric perturbed isotropic harmonic oscillator undergoes several bifurcations as the parameter adjusting the relative strength of the two terms in the cubic potential is varied. We show that three of these bifurcations are Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcations. To this end we analyse an appropriately chosen normal form. It turns out that the linear behaviour is not that of a typical Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation as the eigen-values completely vanish at the bifurcation. However, the nonlinear structure is that of a Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation. Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) and Planar Laser-Induced Fluorescence (PLIF) measurements have been performed in a turbulent nonpremixed jet flame. One of the features of this configuration is a central co-axial fuel jet surrounded by a turbulent annular air flow. The whole is placed within a low-speed coflowing air stream. This three-flow system with turbulent primary air differs from flow systems used for nonpremixed jet flames reported in the literature and is very useful for obtaining information on the mixing process between fuel and primary air. Next to the characterization of the velocity field, special attention has been paid to the conditional seeding of the central fuel jet and of the annular air flow. Together with visualizations of the OH radical, an important combustion intermediate which is formed during combustion, and the NO radical, which is seeded to the central jet flow, the resulting statistics reveal the properties of small- and large-scale structures in the flame. 相似文献

Mathematical cognition requires the allocation of computation resources, where math-specific computations are assumed to take place in the parietal cortex and math-supportive computations in the frontal cortex. Because the pupil dilation has a higher temporal resolution than functional MRI (fMRI), the study investigated to which extent the pupil dilation can help to identify cognitive resource allocation for neural activity underlying math-specific and math-supportive cognition. Combining pupillometry and event-related fMRI, we administered a multiplication verification paradigm to 15 healthy participants asking them to solve easy, moderate, and difficult multiplication tasks. The results revealed that (1) behavioral and pupil dilation data increased parametrically with task difficulty; (2) mental multiplication with increasing difficulty recruited a fronto-parietal circuit comprising left pre-supplementary motor area, left precentral gyrus, right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, and bilateral intraparietal sulcus (IPS); and (3) pupil dilation was sensitive to cognitive resource allocation for neural activity underlying math-specific cognition in the bilateral IPS, implicating a strong reliance on numerical quantity processing during multiplication. In conclusion, the pupil dilation could be used in mathematics education as an easily acquired peripheral physiological indicator (without relying on fMRI) that might lead to a better understanding of dynamical changes in learning arithmetic abilities as a function of training, experience, and development. On a broader level, its application allows to obtain useful insights into learning disabilities such as dyscalculia, and further improve rehabilitation programs with appropriate intervention structures. 相似文献
