Using relative rate techniques the reactions of chlorine and fluorine atoms with HC(O)F have been determined to proceed with rate constants of k1 = (1.9 ± 0.2) × 10−15 and k2 = (8.3 ± 1.7) × 10−13 cm3 molecule−1 s−1, respectively. Stated errors reflect statistical uncertainty; possible systematic uncertainties could add additional 10% and 20% ranges to the values of k1 and k2, respectively. Experiments were performed at 295 ± 2 K and 700 torr total pressure of air. The results are discussed with respect to the design and interpretation of laboratory studies of the atmospheric chemistry of CFC replacements. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

An enhanced finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) algorithm is built to solve the transverse electric two-dimensional Maxwell's equations with inhomogeneous dielectric media where the electric fields are discontinuous across the dielectric interface. The new algorithm is derived based upon the integral version of the Maxwell's equations as well as the relationship between the electric fields across the interface. To resolve the instability issue of Yee's scheme (staircasing) caused by discontinuous permittivity across the interface, our algorithm revises the permittivities and makes some corrections to the scheme for the cells around the interface. It is also an improvement over the contour-path effective permittivity algorithm by including some extra terms in the formulas. The scheme is validated in solving the scattering of a dielectric cylinder with exact solution from Mie theory and is then compared with the above contour-path method, the usual staircasing and the volume-average method. The numerical results demonstrate that the new algorithm has achieved significant improvement in accuracy over other methods. Furthermore, the algorithm has a simple structure and can be merged into current FDTD software packages easily. Hydrogenic (two-body) systems are the only atomic systems for which uncertainties in calculations of the energy levels approach the current state of the art in frequency measurement. This article discusses progress in the theory and measurement of transition frequencies in hydrogenic systems. These studies have relevance to the determination of fundamental constants and the testing of physical theories, especially quantum electrodynamics. A set of high accuracy calculable frequency standards could also be realized by using hydrogenic systems.  相似文献

Rapid separation of nucleic acids by microchip electrophoresis could streamline many biological applications, but conventional chip injection strategies offer limited sample stacking, and thus limited sensitivity of detection. We demonstrate the use of photopatterned polyacrylamide membranes in a glass microfluidic device, with or without fixed negative charges, for preconcentration of double-stranded DNA prior to electrophoretic separation to enhance detection limits. We compared performance of the two membrane formulations (neutral or negatively charged) as a function of DNA fragment size, preconcentration time, and preconcentration field strength, with the intent of optimizing preconcentration performance without degrading the subsequent electrophoretic separation. Little size-dependent bias was observed for either membrane formulation when concentrating dsDNA > 100 bp in length, while the negatively charged membrane more effectively blocks passage of single-stranded oligonucleotide DNA (20-mer ssDNA). Baseline resolution of a six-band dye-labeled ladder with fragments 100-2000 bp in size was obtained in <120 s of separation time, with peak efficiencies in the range of 2000-15,000 plates/cm, and detection limits as low as 1 pM per single dye-labeled fragment. The degree of preconcentration is tunable by at least 49-fold, although the efficiency of preconcentration was found to have diminishing returns at high field and/or long times. The neutral membrane was found to be more robust than the negatively charged membrane, with approximately 2.5-fold larger peak area during the subsequent separation, and less decrease in resolution upon increasing the preconcentration field strength.  相似文献

We describe an integrated microfluidic device (μFlowFISH) capable of performing 16S rRNA fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) followed by flow cytometric detection for identifying bacteria in natural microbial communities. The device was used for detection of species involved in bioremediation of Cr(vi) and other metals in groundwater samples from a highly-contaminated environmental site (Hanford, WA, USA). The μFlowFISH seamlessly integrates two components: a hybridization chamber formed between two photopolymerized membranes, where cells and probes are electrophoretically loaded, incubated and washed, and a downstream cross structure for electrokinetically focusing cells into a single-file flow for flow cytometry analysis. The device is capable of analyzing a wide variety of bacteria including aerobic, facultative and anaerobic bacteria and was initially tested and validated using cultured microbes, including Escherichia coli, as well as two strains isolated from Hanford site: Desulfovibrio vulgaris strain RCH1, and Pseudomonas sp.strain RCH2 that are involved in Cr(vi) reduction and immobilization. Combined labeling and detection efficiencies of 74-97% were observed in experiments with simple mixtures of cultured cells, confirming specific labeling. Results obtained were in excellent agreement with those obtained by conventional flow cytometry confirming the accuracy of μFlowFISH. Finally, the device was used for analyzing water samples collected on different dates from the Hanford site. We were able to monitor the numbers of Pseudomonas sp. with only 100-200 cells loaded into the microchip. The μFlowFISH approach provides an automated platform for quantitative detection of microbial cells from complex samples, and is ideally suited for analysis of precious samples with low cell numbers such as those found at extreme environmental niches, bioremediation sites, and the human microbiome.  相似文献

Three sharp absorption features in the energy range 2.36–2.55 eV have been detected in the transmission spectrum of Co-diffused ZnSe, and a number of luminescence transitions originating from the lowest of these states at 2.361 eV have been observed. Photoluminescence excitation spectra prove that these are high energy excited states of the Co2+Zn impurity, a conclusion confirmed by comparison of measured and predicted luminescence energies. This represents the first identification of luminescence branching from a higher excited state of a transition metal ion in any semiconductor. The sharp, weakly phonon-coupled transitions involve either intra-impurity excitation or transitions from the impurity to localised states split off from a minimum in the conduction band. The implications of these observations for the mechanism of host-impurity energy transfer and for the nature of the excited state wavefunctions are discussed.  相似文献

Hydrogen peroxide formation in the photooxidation of CO? NOx, ethene? NOx, and propene? NOx mixtures has been determined in the TVA 31 cubic meter smog chamber under the following conditions: [NOx] ca. 22–46 ppb; ethene = 0.22–1.1 ppm, [propene] = 0.12–0.97 ppm; [H2O] ca. 8 × 10?3 ppm. Ethene, propene, NO, NOx, PAN, HCHO, and CH3CHO were also monitored. Computer modeling was performed using the gas phase ethene and propene mechanism of the Regional Acid Deposition Model. There is good agreement between the model predicted and observed H2O2 concentrations. However, to successfully model all the propene? NOx experimental results, organic nitrate formation from the reaction of peroxy radicals with NO must be included in the mechanism.  相似文献

A direct sample fraction deposition method was developed for off-line size-exclusion chromatography (SEC)/matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) time-of-flight mass spectrometry. By using electrospray, the SEC eluent, together with a suitable matrix solution added coaxially, was directly deposited on the MALDI plate. Owing to the formation of very small droplets in electrospray, solvent evaporation is much faster. The fractionation volume in narrow-bore SEC, which can directly be collected in one MALDI spot, can easily be optimized in the range of a few microlitres. In addition, fairly homogeneous sample spots were obtained. The possible influence of composition variation of the SEC effluent on the analytical results using direct fraction deposition was investigated; no substantial effects were observed. The applicability of the method was demonstrated by characterizing a broad poly(methyl methacrylate) sample. Copyright 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
