We give conditions under which bounded solutions to semilinear elliptic equations on domains of are continuous despite a possible infinite singularity of . The conditions do not require a minimization or variational stability property for the solutions. The results are used in a second paper to show regularity for a familiar class of equations.

We study the Dalitz plot of the decay D(+)-->K(-)pi(+)pi(+) with a sample of 15090 events from Fermilab experiment E791. Modeling the decay amplitude as the coherent sum of known Kpi resonances and a uniform nonresonant term, we do not obtain an acceptable fit. If we allow the mass and width of the K(*)(0)(1430) to float, we obtain values consistent with those from PDG but the chi(2) per degree of freedom of the fit is still unsatisfactory. A good fit is found when we allow for the presence of an additional scalar resonance, with mass 797+/-19+/-43 MeV/c(2) and width 410+/-43+/-87 MeV/c(2). The mass and width of the K(*)(0)(1430) become 1459+/-7+/-5 MeV/c(2) and 175+/-12+/-12 MeV/c(2), respectively. Our results provide new information on the scalar sector in hadron spectroscopy.  相似文献

Mammalian vitreous gel contains two major network-forming polymeric systems: long, thin fibrils comprising predominantly type II collagen and a meshwork of hyaluronan. The gel structure is maintained primarily by the collagen component, but little is known about the mechanisms of spacing of the collagen fibrils and of interactions between fibrils to form a stable network. In this study we have applied the technique of freeze etching/rotary shadowing electron microscopy in order to reveal the fibrillar network in central, cortical and basal vitreous and to understand the structural relationship between the collagen fibrils. The fibrils were arranged side by side in narrow bundles that frequently branched to link one bundle to another. Only a minor part of the fibrillar network consisted of segments that had a diameter of a single fibril (16.4nm mean diameter). In addition, three morphologically distinct filamentous structures were observed that appeared to form links within the collagen fibrillar network: short, single interlinking filaments of 7.0nm mean diameter, network-forming filaments of 6.7nm mean diameter, and longer filaments of 8.2nm mean diameter. All three types of filamentous structure were removed by digestion of the vitreous gels with Streptomyces hyaluronan lyase prior to freeze etching, indicating that these structures contain or are stabilised by hyaluronan. These filamentous structures may contribute to the structural stability of the vitreous gel.  相似文献

Total neutron cross sections of165 Ho were measured from 0.1 to 1.5 MeV with resolutions of ? 2.5 keV. The observed total cross sections varied slowly with energy and displayed no significant structure. Differential neutron elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections were determined at intervals of ?50keV from 0.3 to 1.5 MeV. The inelastic excitation of states in165Ho at; 98, 214, 371, 460, 517, 586, 712, 824, 995, 1104 and 1143 keV was positively observed with probably identification of several additional states. The observed excited structure and the respective cross sections were correlated with known single-particle and collective states and with excited structure postulated from systematics. The measured cross sections were compared with calculated values based upon spherical and deformed optical-potentials, and compound-nuclear processes. Total cross sections were best described by a spherical potential while the differential elastic angular distributions were better represented by deformed-potential calculations. Resonance interference effects were found small and, at the energies of the present experiments, the contribution of direct processes was not large.  相似文献

The current world agricultural system generates persistent hunger, economic instability, and ecological degradation. Quantitative analysis has been used primarily to predict or optimize small parts of this system, not to engage with its larger problems, and not to redesign the system to eliminate those problems. New questions are posed here about world agriculture; several systems studies are described that begin to deal with those questions; and a challenge is put forth to combine systems tools with transcendent human qualities, to bring forth a stable, sufficient, sustainable global food system.  相似文献

Near-infrared (NIR) squarylium dye spectral properties were evaluated by absorption, fluorescence, circular dichroism (CD), and fluorescence-detected circular dichroism (FDCD). Substituents of the two NN dyes differed at R1 and R2, located symmetrically on the chromophore. The side chains of NN525 are R1=hexanoic acid, R2=butyl sulfonate and R1=R2=ethyl for NN127. FDCD signals were first confirmed by denaturing BSA with 2–8 M urea showing a diminution of dye FDCD peaks, but no change occurred in spectral properties of the dyes in urea. This indicated that the observed cotton effects occurred by noncovalent interactions with the secondary structure of the protein. The average BSA–dye association constants found by fluorescence, absorbance, and FDCD were 1.27×106 (n=1) and 3.3×106 M−1 (n=1) for NN127 and NN525 respectively. These values were in good agreement when calculated by the three spectroscopic methods validating the use of NIRFDCD for optical parameter calculations. These results are useful to describe NIR squarylium dye labeling of BSA.  相似文献

An analysis of the loading rate dependence of the forces required to rupture an AFM tip from a block copolymer surface has provided insight into the structure of the surface-macromolecule contact, differentiation of the block contacting the tip, a measure of the polymer-surface binding energy, and the rigidity of the contact. Polystyrene-poly-2-vinylpyridine block copolymers were studied adsorbing to silicon nitride. Polystyrene makes stiff van der Waals contact with the silicon nitride surface in aqueous solution, while the bond of poly-2-vinylpyridine to the surface is more flexible and may involve a bridging water.  相似文献

For series with negligible growth and seasonality, simple moving averages are frequently used to estimate the current level of a process, and the resultant value projected as a forecast for future observations. This paper shows that a linear combination of two simple moving averages (SMA) can provide an improved estimate of the underlying level of the process. The proposition is demonstrated by simulation, and good combinations are listed. The theory underlying the improvement is developed. The general rules are then illustrated through an application in an inventory situation.  相似文献
