The glass transition and melting behavior of poly(ether-ester) multiblock copolymers with poly(tetramethylene isophthalate) (PTMI) hard segments and poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) soft segments are studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and small- and wide-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS and WAXS). Thermodynamic melting parameters for the PTMI homopolymer are estimated by WAXS and from the dependence of melting point on crystallization temperature. The melting behavior of PTMI is characterized by dual endotherms which are qualitatively representative of the original morphology, although reorganization effects are present. The composition dependence of the glass transition temperature parameters after rapid quenching from the melt are well described by mixed phase correlations for copolymers in the range 30-100 wt% hard segment. Combined with SAXS characterization at melt temperatures, a single phase melt is suggested in these materials which extends to temperatures below the hard segment melting point. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

The structure and dynamics of crosslinked nanoparticles (microgels) made out of hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) polymer chains were studied using dynamic light scattering spectroscopy. The microgel light scattering spectra were found to be highly nonexponential requiring a spectral time moment analysis in which the spectra were fit to a sum of stretched exponentials. Each term offers three parameters for analysis and represents a single spectral mode. At room temperature microgel spectra reveal three modes. Two faster modes are almost diffusive and correspond to apparent sizes of 25 and 450–650 nm. The slowest mode is independent of scattering angle and is reminiscent of the slow polymer mode observed in identical non‐crosslinked polymer solutions. When solution temperature is varied from 23 to 45°C and back, the microgel undergoes a reversible volume phase transition between 40 and 45°C. According to the time‐moment analysis, above the transition temperature two faster modes collapse into one with apparent hydrodynamic radius of 100–150 nm, while the slow mode remains largely unchanged. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We describe the first demonstration of a collisionally excited optical-field-ionization laser driven within a waveguide. Lasing on the 4d(9)5d-4d(9)5p transition at 41.8 nm in Xe8+ was observed to be closely correlated to conditions under which the pump laser pulses were guided well by a gas-filled capillary discharge waveguide. Simulations of the propagation of the pump laser radiation show that gain was achieved over essentially the whole 30 mm length of the waveguide. 相似文献

We have developed a mechanical spectral hole burning (MSHB) scheme that is analogous to nonresonant dielectric spectral hole burning (DSHB). DSHB experiments have been performed close to the glass temperature and interpreted in terms of dynamic heterogeneity. Here we find that holes are burned far above the glass temperature and in the terminal regimes for a branched polymer melt and a polymer solution. The results suggest that MSHB is a potentially powerful tool with which to examine dynamics of complex fluids. 相似文献

A beam of MeV protons, accelerated by ultraintense laser-pulse interactions with a thin target foil, is used to investigate nuclear reactions of interest for spallation physics. The laser-generated proton beam is shown (protons were measured) to have a broad energy distribution, which closely resembles the expected energy spectrum of evaporative protons (below 50 MeV) produced in GeV-proton-induced spallation reactions. The protons are used to quantify the distribution of residual radioisotopes produced in a representative spallation target (Pb), and the results are compared with calculated predictions based on spectra modeled with nuclear Monte Carlo codes. Laser-plasma particle accelerators are shown to provide data relevant to the design and development of accelerator driven systems. 相似文献
