We give an overview of some remarkable connections between symmetric informationally complete measurements (SIC-POVMs, or SICs) and algebraic number theory, in particular, a connection with Hilbert’s 12th problem. Fine structure in proton emission from the 3.1(3) mus activity of 145Tm was discovered by using a novel technique of digital processing of overlapping recoil implantation and decay signals. Proton transitions to the ground state of 144Er and to its first excited 2(+) state at 0.33(1) MeV with a branching ratio I(p)(2(+))=9.6+/-1.5% were observed. The structure of the 145Tm wave function and the emission process were analyzed by using particle-core vibration coupling models.  相似文献

We report a robust and reliable platform source for visible-wavelength multiphoton microscopy that is based on nonlinear optical methods. We demonstrate a synchronously pumped, singly resonant optical parametric oscillator with simultaneous intracavity third-order quasi-phase matching in a single crystal that generates continuously tunable, visible, and femtosecond-pulsed radiation. The application of the system is demonstrated by two-photon laser-scanning fluorescence microscopy of rabbit cardiac myocytes loaded with the fluorescent Ca2+ indicator fura-2.  相似文献

In good conductors optical phonons are usually screened, and therefore not observed. However, sharp features due to infrared-active modes in the copper-oxygen planes are observed in the optical conductivity of Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4 and YBa2Cu3O6.95. Oscillator strengths indicate that the screening of these modes is poor or totally absent. These materials are compared with eta-Mo4O11, in which lattice modes appear suddenly below the charge-density wave transition. It is proposed that poor screening in the cuprates originates from fluctuating charge inhomogeneities in the copper-oxygen planes.  相似文献

The drag and the inertia coefficients of the in-line force were determined experimentally based on the Morison equation. The interrelationship of the in-line force coefficients with the frequency ratio, the amplitude ratio, and the y-direction response were carefully examined. The experimental results show that the frequency ratio is more important in determining the drag coefficient than either the Reynolds number or the reduced velocity, and that the drag coefficient is highly coupled to the y-direction response. Adiabatic cooling is shown to be a simple and effective method to cool many charged particles in a trap to very low temperatures. Up to 3×10(6) p are cooled to 3.5 K-10(3) times more cold p and a 3 times lower p temperature than previously reported. A second cooling method cools p plasmas via the synchrotron radiation of embedded e(-) (with many fewer e(-) than p in preparation for adiabatic cooling. No p are lost during either process-a significant advantage for rare particles.  相似文献

Computer-controlled data-acquisition systems are being used extensively for gathering strain-gage data. This paper explores the relative merits of using modern solidstate digital multi-meters (DDM) to measure the strain-gage resistance directly rather than using a conventional Wheatstone bridge. Both a direct-resistance measurement scheme and a reversed current scheme are compared over long measurements terms of 6 and 12 days using a 6 1/2-digit multimeter. The results show that the reversed current method is superior in maintaining the zero-gage resistance reading at the cost of using several meters. Possibly the direct-resistance method can be improved so that the operation and equipment can be simplified.Paper was presented at the 1990 SEM Spring Conference on Experimental Mechanics held in Albuquerque, NM on June 4–6.  相似文献

This case study describes a professor's evolution from geoscience researcher to effective teacher to education researcher. The article details his initial beliefs about teaching, looks at the factors that prompted him to seek a different teaching approach, and enumerates the supports and challenges that he had on his journey. Factors essential to this evolution are early career success in discipline research, an institutional climate to reward teaching, mentoring support by colleagues, access to professional development opportunities, and involvement in action research activities. The case study is linked to education literature about teaching and education research and makes recommendations based on the findings of the study.  相似文献
