Summary Recent activities at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) related to the development of standard reference materials (SRMs) for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are described. These activities include: (1) the development of four new calibration solution SRMs, a marine sediment SRM, and a frozen mussel tissue SRM; (2) noncertified measurements of PAHs for two additional sediment SRMs; and (3) the establishment of reference Ames bioassay mutagenicity values on three existing SRMs. Activities in progress include the recertification of the existing air particulate and diesel particulate SRMs and the preparation of a new diesel particulate extract SRM. 相似文献

Some of the factors which affect the noise attenuating properties of ear defenders have been investigated by using a commercial artificial ear embedded in a wooden head. The head can be adjusted in shape, hair length and contour in the area around the ear, where earmuff cushions seal to the head, to simulate variations in the wearers' heads. Measurements of earmuff attenuation have been made with a sequence of 20 different configurations of the adjustable head, and these have been compared with similar measurements using 20 human heads. To carry out these comparisons, a second microphone was sealed into four different designs of earmuff, to measure the noise inside these earmuffs when they were fitted to human heads and the adjustable head. For all four instrumented earmuffs, the mean and the standard deviation 0f the attenuation in each 1 /3-octave band between 40 Hz and 10 kHz measured On the adjustable head compared favourably with results from the same earmuffs tested On the 20 human heads. 相似文献

Zusammenfassung In früheren analytischen Untersuchungen waren recht geringe Quecksilbergehalte in Wein im Vergleich zu anderen Lebensmitteln gefunden worden. Das konnte kürzlich im wesentlichen unter Anwendung nachweisstarker Kaltdampf-AAS-Methoden bestätigt werden. Die Ergebnisse systematischer Untersuchungen, auch in Most und Teilen der Rebe, zeigen, daß Quecksilber im Most, unabhängig vom ursprünglichen Gehalt, während der Gärung und in den folgenden Verarbeitungsstufen praktisch vollständig ausgeschieden wird. Im Mittel liegt daher der primäre Quecksilbergehalt im Wein in der Größenordnung von 0,02 g/l oder. noch darunter.

Mercury traces in must and wine
Summary Previous analytical studies have revealed rather low mercury contents in wine compared with other food types. These data could in general be confirmed recently by the application of sensitive cold vapour AAS methods. The results of systematic investigations, also in must and wine sections, show that mercury contents in must, independent from the initial level, were nearly completely eliminated during the fermentation and the subsequent processing steps of wine production. Therefore, the primary mercury content in wine on average is at the order of 0.02 g/l or even lower.

The influence of branching in polyethylene and of the alkyl-group R in polyolefins -(CH2-CHR)x- has been shown. The source of the relaxation can be first attributed to restricted movements of units in branches and eventually to the adjacent moving methylene groups in the main amorphous chain, and then to a wide spread movement of amorphous chains caused by the R-groups. The magnetic properties of two amorphous Fe?Ni?Zr alloys, Fe89.7Ni0.03Zr10 and Fe70Ni20Zr10, both in the “as cast” and neutron irradiated states were investigated by Mössbauer spectroscopy and dc magnetic susceptibility measurements. The upper magnetic ordering temperatures of Fe89.7Ni0.03Zr10 are 232K and 246K for the “as cast” and irradiated samples, respectively. The magnetic ordering temperature for Fe70Ni20Zr10 was about 478K for both the “as cast” and irradiated samples. Both compositions yield magnetic hyperfine spectra, which show a considerable relaxation effect that must be explicitly considered in the calculation of the average local Fe moments. When this is done, these values derived from Mössbauer spectra are in good agreement with the dc susceptibility values. The effects of neutron irradiation on the magnetic properties of these alloys are small. 相似文献
