Tunneling between parallel two-dimensional electron gases (2DEG) in accumulation layers formed on both sides of the single doped AlGaAs barrier are examined in both zero and high magnetic field. Accumulation layers are separated from highly n-doped contact regions which freely supply electrons to the 2DEGs via 80 nm thick lightly n-doped spacer layers. Strongly oscillating current with magnetic field along the 2DEGs is absent in this arrangement. Without magnetic field resonant tunneling between 2DEGs with different as grown electron concentration could be settle by application of external voltage bias. High magnetic fields (ν<1) shift resonant tunneling to zero external bias and suppresses tunneling current, creating wide gap in the tunneling density of states at the Fermi level arisen from the in-plane Coulomb interaction in the 2DEGs. Transport measurements have been carried out on a 10 nm n-type PbTe/Pb0.9Eu0.1Te quantum well at millikelvin temperatures. The Hall and longitudinal resistances are measured in a Van der Pauw geometry under high magnetic fields up to 23 T. A robust signature of the integer quantum Hall effect is observed without any sign of parasitic parallel conduction. The unconventional sequence of filling factors associated with the integer quantum Hall effect is discussed in terms of the occupancy of multiple valleys.  相似文献

A computer simulation study to produce ultrasonic backscatter coefficients (BSCs) from red blood cell (RBC) clusters is discussed. The simulation algorithm is suitable for generating non-overlapping, isotropic, and fairly identical RBC clusters. RBCs were stacked following the hexagonal close packing (HCP) structure to form a compact spherical aggregate. Such an aggregate was repeated and placed randomly under non-overlapping condition in the three-dimensional space to mimic an aggregated blood sample. BSCs were computed between 750 KHz and 200 MHz for samples of various cluster sizes at different hematocrits. Magnitudes of BSCs increased with mean aggregate sizes at low frequencies (<20 MHz). The accuracy of the structure-factor-size-estimator (SFSE) method in determining mean aggregate size and packing factor was also examined. A good correlation (R(2) ≥ 0.94) between the mean size of aggregates predicted by the SFSE and true size was found for each hematocrit. This study shows that for spherical aggregates there exists a region for each hematocrit where SFSE works most accurately. Typically, error of SFSE in estimating mean cluster size was <20% for dimensions between 14 and 17 μm at 40% hematocrit. This study suggests that the theoretical framework of SFSE is valid under the assumption of isotropic aggregates.  相似文献

A novel theory, based on density operator calculations, is provided for assessing the nuclear quadrupole resonance behaviour of a spin 1 (14N) subjected to a single radio-frequency pulse. It is for a powder sample in zero magnetic field for an electric field gradient tensor without symmetry. A complete set of equations is obtained for the quantities of interest. It is derived from the general Liouville–von Neumann equation and from a proper basis on which the density operator is expanded. Theoretical results, in terms of signal evolution as a function of the pulse length (nutation experiments), show that the same nutation curve is expected for the three different transitions which exist when the electric field gradient tensor is without symmetry. This latter nutation curve is, however, different from that which prevails in the case of an axially symmetric tensor, this apparent discrepancy being easily resolved on theoretical grounds. Experimental data (for NaNO2, electric field gradient tensor without symmetry) are checked against values of the radio-frequency field amplitude provided by NMR measurements performed with the same equipment. Good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained.  相似文献

Self-assembled monolayers of 5'-32P-labeled 3'-thiolated oligonucleotides chemisorbed on gold were bombarded by low-energy electrons (LEE) of 8-68 eV. Shorter 5'-32P-oligonucleotides produced by LEE-induced strand breaks were separated with denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and quantified by phosphor imaging. The yields of short oligonucleotides (y) decrease exponentially with their length (n), following the equation y=ae-bn, where a and b are constants, which are related to the average effective cross section per nucleotide for DNA strand break (sigmaeff) and the attenuation length (AL=1b) of LEE, respectively. The AL decreases with LEE energies from 2.5+/-0.6 nm at 8 eV to 0.8+/-0.1 nm at 68 eV, whereas sigmaeff increases from (3+/-1)x10(-18) to (5.1+/-1.6)x10(-17) cm2 within the same energy range. The energy dependence of sigmaeff shows a resonance peak of (2.8+/-0.9)x10(-17) cm2 at 18 eV superimposed on a monotonically rising curve. Transient electron attachment to a sigma* anion state of the deoxyribose group, followed by dipolar dissociation into H- and the corresponding positive-ion radical, leading to C-O bond cleavage, is proposed to account for this maximum.  相似文献

We report on far infrared magnetotransmission measurements on a thin graphite sample prepared by exfoliation of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite. In a magnetic field, absorption lines exhibiting a blueshift proportional to sqrt[B] are observed. This is a fingerprint for massless Dirac holes at the H point in bulk graphite. The Fermi velocity is found to be c[over ] =( 1.02+/-0.02) x 10(6) m/s and the pseudogap |Delta| at the H point is estimated to be below 10 meV. Although the holes behave to a first approximation as a strictly 2D gas of Dirac fermions, the full 3D band structure has to be taken into account to explain all the observed spectral features.  相似文献

Electrical transport measurements are reported on a 2DEG in a CdMnTe quantum well structure. The amplitude of the Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations show a distinct beating pattern with nodes corresponding to coincidences between the spin splitting and a half integer multiple of the cyclotron energy. The observed pattern of nodes is a direct consequence of the large Pauli paramagnetism induced by the s-d exchange interaction between the spins of electronic states and the localized magnetic moments.  相似文献

Very little is known about the blood backscattering behavior and signal statistics following flow stoppage at frequencies higher than 10 MHz. Measurements of the radio frequency (rf) signals backscattered by normal human blood (hematocrit = 40%, temperature = 37 degrees C) were performed in a tube flow model at mean frequencies varying between 10 and 58 MHz. The range of increase of the backscattered power during red blood cell (RBC) rouleau formation was close to 15 dB at 10 and 36 MHz, and dropped, for the same blood samples, below 8 dB at 58 MHz. Increasing the frequency from 10 to 58 MHz raised the slope of the power changes at the beginning of the kinetics of aggregation, and could emphasize the non-Gaussian behavior of the rf signals interpreted in terms of the K and Nakagami statistical models. At 36 and 58 MHz, significant increases of the kurtosis coefficient, and significant reductions of the Nakagami parameter were noted during the first 30 s of flow stoppage. In conclusion, increasing the transducer frequency reduced the magnitude of the backscattered power changes attributed to the phenomenon of RBC aggregation, but improved the detection of rapid growth in aggregate sizes and non-Gaussian statistical behavior.  相似文献

We have studied the low energy spin excitations in n-type CdMnTe based dilute magnetic semiconductor quantum wells. For magnetic fields for which the energies for the excitation of free carriers and Mn spins are almost identical, an anomalously large Knight shift is observed. Our findings suggest the existence of a magnetic-field-induced ferromagnetic order in these structures, which is in agreement with recent theoretical predictions [Phys. Rev.
