Picolinamides as Effective Ligands for Copper‐Catalysed Aryl Ether Formation: Structure–Activity Relationships,Substrate Scope and Mechanistic Investigations

The use of picolinic acid amide derivatives as an effective family of bidentate ligands for copper‐catalysed aryl ether synthesis is reported. A fluorine‐substituted ligand gave good results in the synthesis of a wide range of aryl ethers. Even bulky phenols, known to be very challenging substrates, were shown to react with aryl iodides with excellent yields using these ligands. At the end of the reaction, the first examples of end‐of‐life Cu species were isolated and identified as Cu^II complexes with several of the anionic ligands tested. A preliminary mechanistic investigation is reported that suggests that the substituents on the ligands might have a crucial role in determining the redox properties of the metal centre and, consequently, its efficacy in the coupling process. An understanding of these effects is important for the development of new efficient and tunable ligands for copper‐based chemistry.     

Ordered Mesoporous ZSM‐5 Employing an Imidazolium‐Based Ionic Liquid

Hierarchically porous ZSM‐5 was achieved by using a simple bottom‐up strategy combining zeolite seeds with imidazolium‐based ionic liquids. The bimodal ZSM‐5 with hexagonal arranged mesopores (3 nm) shows important activity in the acid catalysis of bulky compounds relative to conventional ZSM‐5.     

Palladium‐Catalyzed Stereoselective Intramolecular Oxidative Amidation of Alkenes in the Synthesis of 1,3‐ and 1,4‐Amino Alcohols and 1,3‐Diamines

An efficient and practical Pd‐catalyzed intramolecular oxidative allylic amidation provides facile access to derivatives of 1,3‐ and 1,4‐amino alcohols and 1,3‐diamines. The method operates under mild reaction conditions (RT) with molecular oxygen (1 atm) as the sole reoxidant of Pd. Excellent diastereoselectivities were attained with substrates bearing a secondary stereogenic center     

Quinonediimine‐Induced Oxidative Coupling of Organomagnesium Reagents

N,N′‐Diphenyl‐p‐benzoquinonediimine, a redox‐active unit of polyaniline, efficiently induced the oxidative homocoupling of various aryl‐ and vinylmagnesium reagents in suppressing the side reactions, such as 1,2‐ or 1,4‐addition reaction.     

Propane‐1,2‐diols from Dilactides,Oligolactides, or Poly‐L‐lactic Acid (PLLA): From Plastic Waste to Chiral Bulk Chemicals

The preparation of racemic or enantioenriched propane‐1,2‐diol from dilactides, oligolactides, or poly‐L ‐lactic acid (PLLA) is described. The transformation is carried out as tandem reactions in MeOH, covering hydrolysis and subsequent hydrogenation by using copper chromite as a catalyst. The starting material present undesired side products of the PLLA synthesis or PLLA waste.
